Title: Nice collection of the standard theme songs, but the boxed set has some jewels
Review: When I was a kid, I had a silver double album (LP) of Bond music by, at that time, John Barry music (with the exception of the Monte Norman tracks from DR. NO). The discs had the great theme songs, and several selections of instrumental music from the first seven films (up to DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER). Great collection. Wish I still had it.DISC 1This collection is like that, but with the emphasis (disc 1) on theme songs, spanning the Connery, Lazenby, Moore and Brosnan eras. Okay, if you don't have copies of the great songs by John Barry and Anthony Newley, Leslie Bricusse, et al, this is a nice release to get. George Martin's funky, blaxploitation styled score for LIVE AND LET DIE was a longtime favorite of mine (still have the original LP), and Paul McCartney's theme song was a grand slam. And I always thought that Barry's return to the series with "The Man With the Golden Gun" was a lot classier than the film deserved, with brassy horns and sassy electric guitar, the Barry trademark arrangment ever since the first rendition of the James Bond theme in 1962. The songs got smoother and mellower (to match a maturing Roger Moore), until the desperate attempts with Duran Duran and A-ha. (Dalton was an underrated Bond, and his two films' box office tepidity was undeserved in my book.) Disc 1 is a nice history lesson of the evolution of the "Bond theme song."But the boxed set has some real surprises, gems that I bought it for. Read on....DISC 2The vintage radio promotions are cute. The orchestral suites are great (though I've never like THUNDERBALL, I have to admit that the warm-up Barry did for GOLDFINGER let him nail a home run for the underwater spy epic). But there some demo cuts of the songs that are, so far's I know, unavailable anywhere else. Two versions of "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," the original theme song for THUNDERBALL. (The title comes from the Japanese nickname that developed for James Bond.) Both Dionne Warwick and Shirley Bassey do formidable jobs with the song; I think Warwick's is the more polished version, but both are great. If you've only heard the instrumental versions interpolated into the finished film's score, hearing the songs are a relevation. Even more unusual is a reputed "demo version" of an initial stab at "You Only Live Twice," sung (uncredited) by one Julie Rogers, with largely different (and clunky) lyrics:"You only live twiceNo more than twiceAnd each life you liveYou're playing with dice"The first game is loveBeware it's niceThe second is deathWhose cold charms entice you"You gamble with dangerYou gamble with loveEach one is a strangerIn a black velvet glove"And if you should loseYou'll pay the priceGood luck with the diceYou'll only live twice"You gamble with dangerYou gamble with loveEach is a strangerIn a black velvet glove"And you should loseYou'll pay the priceGood luck with the diceYou only live twice"There's more about these demo versions in the Wikipedia article on the YOLT soundtrack.Disc 2 also contains some incidental music and orchestral suites from GOLDFINGER and THUNDERBALL ... considered by some to be two of his best scores for the Bond films. A final treat are renditions of the famous "James Bond theme," but orchestrated and recorded with much better quality than the original 1962 version for DR. NO. Following that, the "007" or "Back in action" theme, originally used for the "Stealing the Lektor" sequence in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE. Again, a superb example of Barry's knack for juggling complementary (sometimes conflicting) leitmotifs within the same piece. All this makes the boxed set a great value. Stop pondering -- get it.

Title: A Good "Best of"
Review: A good compilation of orchestra and vocals as advertised. The volume modulation from track to track could have used a little more work, a bit of "tinnyness" in some spots, but overall a good value.

Title: Some of the BEST Bond Songs
Review: This is a great collection of some of the BEST Bond Songs. As a BOND addict, I was so happy to finally get this collection of songs, sung by the ORIGINAL artists, which I've heard throughout my life. And now, I can play them and the respective movie always comes to mind. Really GREAT! This album is definitely a MUST HAVE. Some of my Favorites are: All time High, For your Eyes Only, The Bond Theme, Goldfinger, Live and Let Die, Nobody does it Better, and Thunderball. The files are WMA so you will simply need to convert to MP3 if desired.

Review: As a massive fan of James Bond (or Mr B for those in the know) I bought this to try and spice up my wife and I’s love life. The plan was that I’d play one of the themes, she’d dress up as the relevant character and wait in the bedroom while I entered (steady on!!) as Mr B.The first time we tried it i planned meticulously for a ‘Man with the golden gun’ night of saucy fun. I’d put on my 2nd best 70s cream safari style jacket and chocolate coloured slacks, pressed play, raised an eyebrow and went in the bedroom eager to see how MrsT looked. She’s not too bad looking, MrsT, and I thought she’d do a fantastic job of being Mary Goodnight. Imagine my dismay when I was met with what can best be described as a below average attempt at Nick Nack.Anyway, I won’t get in to who said what and who it was that tried it on with Noreen from number 32 but long story short, I’m now enjoying these beautifully recorded, classic Bond themes in my humble bedsit. I even sometimes put on a Bond quiz for the kids when they come to visit me every other Saturday.Highly recommended.

Review: My wife and I had a James Bond dinner party with 14 guests, we had the room decorated with James Bond pictures and posters, life like figures, all that James Bond stuff we ordered via Amazon. As for the music, we played the noted cd as well as other JB cd's via Amazon. We had 007 decorations, playing cards, martini glasses & stir sticks, the room looked great, a number of people just came in just to take pictures. A great time was had by all. Our guests dressed up to the Bond theme, which was a bonus. The music just put the finishing touch on the evening. 🙂
