Retrospective that highlights the best film scores from the acclaimed soundtrack composer. Though best known for his work in many of the Bond films, Barry has composed many other great movie themes during his 40+ year career Not only does this collection include Bond classics like 'Goldfinger' and 'Diamonds Are Forever' (both sung by Dame Shirley Bassey), it also features many other musical moments from films like 'Midnight Cowboy', 'Dances with Wolves', 'Out of Africa', 'Born Free'(sung by Matt Monro) and more. Like John Williams, Barry's style is easily identifiable yet each theme is unique in it's own way. Sony.

Title: The real deal
Review: If you want a sampling of some of John Barry's best music, this is it. The various soundtrack tunes will pluck you out of your easy chair or car seat and drop you back in a theater seat. If you were a fan of the movies that John Barry's music was in, then you will surely enjoy this disc. My only slight complaint is with the John Dunbar Theme at the end of the disc. There are essentially two versions that exist, a full orchestral version for want of a better term (not on this disc), and a quiet harmonica solo version (on this disc). After the high energy of the rest of the music, this version is too subdued. Maybe that was done on purpose to let the listener calm down after all the other pieces. The first time I played this disc I was driving over a long, bad stretch of pavement and I thought that my CD player cut out on me. Turned out that the music was just too soft to hear over the road noise. At home on my Bose, it sounded fine.

Review: This is a very good compilation but I wish a record company will produce an anthology of his works with adequate liner notes for people living outside of the UK. Everybody will enjoy it.

Title: I had no idea !
Review: I ordered this CD because of one music that was on it. And ... wahoo ! I had no idea that so many songs and music's on that CD actually were from John Barry. So I double-checked on the Net only to find out that he made a plethora of music's for films and TV series. Listening to this CD reminded me of so many memories when I was a child that it made this purchase worth every penny ! As for the talent of this man, just buy a copy and listen for yourself !

Title: John Barry is The Best.
Review: John Barry is the greatest movie score composer there ever was, along with Bernard Herman, of course. I'm just digging the crap out of playing this in car as I drive around. It makes you feel like you're in some bad-ass movie. His use of transition between major and minor, along with with his pulsing rhythm gives his music undeniable power. Barry's ability to grasp the core emotion of his subject is awe inspiring. Love, love, love it!!!

Title: Too much sining
Review: This CD was a disappointment. The music clips on this are mostly 2 minutes long, there is singing on some songs which drowns out the actual music. It's going into the goodwill donation bag.

Cordialement, Lockeek.

Review: If you are of a certain age this will take you straight back to both the cinema and TV of the 60's/70's, great obscurities underpinned by a solid James Bond 'set' of course.
