Title: Lovely album
Review: I believe this is one of the later albums my the Carpenters. Her voice is mature and the songs are lovely. I enjoy this very much and can't help but reflect on the fact that she died too soon.

Title: The Musical Epitaph To Karen Carpenter,1951-1983
Review: Released shortly after Karen Carpenter's passing of complications from anorexia this album was compiled by still grieving brother Richard in tribute to his sister. Considering the nature of the album and the changing face of criticism towards easy listening oriented pop during the early 80's this album compiles recently recorded tracks as well as unreleased older material into what amounts to basically a very coherant album. Slagged off for years as something of something of a thorn in the side of the rock era with their highly melodic, often sing-a-long ballads and soft atmospherics one would be surprised at the duo's musical versatility. It's also important to note that while these songs were recorded during many different sessions during an era when musical tastes in all genres were changing fairly rapidly it's amazing how well everything here flows together as it goes along. Now the Carpenters were known for their balladry and there are two excellent examples of that on the newly recorded "Now" and the closer "Look To Your Dreams"-both showcasing the melodic elegence, finesse and hints of darkness that tend to lay behind most Carpenters lyrics. Of the songs recorded earlier but first featured here one of the finest is 1979's "Prime Time Love",a song with some nice multi tracked backround vocals from Richard along with a lite urban pop jazz flavor similar to Quincy Jones productions of the period;percussionist Paulinho Da Costa's presense here on percussion comes as no surprise whatever. Another upbeat tune is the percussive Brazillian jazz influnced "Sailing On The Tide" which likewise features Tom Scott on flute and the island flavor continues to a lesser degree on "At The End Of A Song". Other songs such as "You're Enough","Make Believe It's Your First Time","Ordinary Fool" and "Your Baby Doesn't Love You Anymore"-all originally recored in the mid/late 70's all have the classic Carpenters ballad sound and even for an posthumous album it's more than a little surprising to note that while they all have a certain similarity in sound all sound as if they could've become hits or at least concert stables;they speak the the sadly reflective language of Karen Carpenter-ese quite well and all that gives this album the overall flavor of....a greatest hits recording for a decade of recording which never actually came to be. You could also see the transition Karen, both with and without her brother were making from the easy listen styles of the 70's to the "soft rock" styles of the early 80's when the music gained just a bit more of an edge to it. So say what you wish about their music-the songs of the Carpenters, even here have had a way of enduring the test of time exceptionally and Karen Carpenter had a vocal instrument able to add it's well enunciated and deeply strong delivery to anything from pop ballads to light country and jazz. So honestly this is really good music plain and simple.

Title: Great product, somewhat poor packaging.
Review: First, the bad -- CD arrived with the back cover sporting a 2-inch crack. Not mightily pleased about that but Karen Carpenter's voice more than made up for that annoyance. The good -- Karen Carpenter. The brother-sister duo are amazing together but Karen Carpenter's voice is a real wonder. I'd recognize her voice anywhere, whether or not I'm familiar with the song she's singing.I'm not an audiophile so the CD quality is good enough for me. It is not apparent that this was mostly produced posthumously, from what I understand. A must have for Karen Carpenter diehards but there are better collections of songs from the Carpenters in general.

Title: The Voice from the Start
Review: I had the original CD releases of the Carpenters, then sold them when the remastered versions was released. Boy, to my surprise, the remastered versions were sonic-ally awful, no depth, three dimension sound stage, and Karen's voice was in echo, on every CD, seemingly the same as if they just used the same Technic, even if the original did not have echo (reverb) in it. These SHM-CD, not only are true to the original LP releases, but the sound quality is analog warm, clean and no harshness of distortion. Richard, who help master the A&M remasters, should seriously take lesson from the Japan technicians, who absolutely gets it right.

Title: Beautiful music!
Review: If you loved the Carpenters, you will love this CD! I became aware of it after watching an old interview with Richard shortly after Karenâs death, and he explained that these were the last songs she recorded. He decided to go ahead and produce the CD, and I am so glad he did! All the songs are new, but I am sure many of them wouldâve been hits!
