The Country Music Hall of Fame, to which he was elected posthumously in 1967, made the following citation: 'The velvet style of Gentleman Jim Reeves was an international influence. His rich voice bought millions of new fans to country music from every corner of the world. Posterity will keep his name alive because they will remember him as one of Country Music's most important performers.'

Title: A great collection of Jim Reeves songs
Review: This is a nice collection of Jim Reeves' music. I have been a fan since I was a child and listened to my parents' LPs when they played them. The old country classics are still the best!

Review: Jim always sounds good! If you get a bad sounding Jim Reeves recording --- it's not Jim --- it's the recording!

Title: Generally a good buy and a good collection, with a few problems
Review: This is a pretty good 3-CD set that most Jim Reeves fans will probably enjoy. It's a great buy for 75 tracks as well. The sound quality is pretty good in general, not quite as good as "The Real Jim Reeves" set that was also issued recently by Sony, though. There is some minor distortion on a few tracks but nothing major, and most people probably won't even notice it.On the downside, the song selection from track to track is sometimes not the best. Monophonic 50's honky-tonk country songs and other older mono material is interspersed with Jim's polished and intimate stereo performances from the early 1960's, which can be quite annoying. I think most of us are Jim Reeves fans based largely on his 1959-1964 recording career, "the stereo years", and also because of the many well-produced overdubbed songs and albums that were issued after his death under the control of his widow, Mary Reeves. I sometimes listen to the honky-tonk material from the 50's, but it is generally inferior to the later material. I personally would be fine without any of the pre-1958 material on this set, which I find myself skipping over when it comes on. It was recorded before Jim Reeves found his true element. One very bizarre track included on this set is the song "Railroad Bum". I like the song, but I was playing this in my car and thought something went wrong with my player, then wondered if the company had put in a recording by a different singer by mistake. The producers of this CD sped up the recording, reducing the running time to cut about 10 seconds from total time, and Jim's voice is so fast and higher-pitched that it doesn't sound like him, especially sandwiched between two slower tempo tracks, "The Mighty Everglades" and "The Tie That Binds".Except for these minor annoyances, this is in general a good set. I'd still recommend "The Real Jim Reeves" first though, that one has the recordings that are generally in chronological order of when they were recorded, superior mastering and sound quality, and is also an excellent buy.

Title: What's There to Say?
Review: Come on, ya, this is Gentleman Jim. The sound quality is very good, especially given the source tapes, but what really shines thru is a time gone by and all the things that went with it. If you like the "Nashville Sound" this album will not disappoint.
