NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Greg Tang takes on the times tables, teaching kids innovative ways to multiply numbers and derive answers WITHOUT memorization.
Four is very fast to do when you multiply by 2.Here's a little good advice --please just always double twice!BEST OF TIMES gives kids an intuitive understanding of multiplication, encouraging them to arrive at answers on their own rather than memorizing the times tables. A child who can multiply by two, for instance, can multiply by four and even eight! Likewise, times six builds on times two and times three. With his common-sense approach, Greg Tang encourages kids to solve problems creatively, building both their skills and their confidence.

Title: Greg Tang is a great author, teaching students about number-sense
Review: I had the opportunity to attend a Greg Tang workshop many years ago. He's fantastic for helping students develop number sense. This book provides a simple, sing-song strategy for thinking about multiplication strategies.Ex: For Multiplying by 4's, you can just "Double-Double." So--- 13 x 4 would have the student's double 13 and then add up those two doubles. It saves the students a step by doing repeated addition 4 times.

Title: Highly recommend for school or home
Review: Greg Tang's clever poems also teach kids how to do multiplication by building on what they already know.Example: Multiplying by 4, double it and then double it again. Kids need strategies to help them to integrate what they're learningrather than learning isolated pieces of information -- makes it easier to reconstruct something whena fact has been forgotten! Highly recommend for school or home.

Title: Not just for kids
Review: This book shines light from unexpected angles in kids' math. You will realize there's more to multiplication table, than simply memorizing it. I recommend this book highly, not only to those who's learning multiplication, but to many, many adults out there who struggle with calculating tips or balancing a checkbook. You can apply his method to calculate much larger numbers in a flash!

Title: it is a good book for going through each multiplication table
Review: The book wasn't exactly what I was looking for. I thought maybe each page would have an array that students would have to figure out. However, it is a good book for going through each multiplication table, one by one. I think it will be a good introduction to multiplication tables in January. I plan on reading the whole book through once, then going back to it as we practice each specific table as a class.
