A winter’s night, Venice, 1815. A 217-year-old dog is searching for his lost master.

So begins the journey of Tomorrow, a dog who must travel through the courts and battlefields of Europe - and through the centuries - in search of the man who granted him immortality. His adventures take him to the London Frost Fair, the strange court of King Charles I, the wars of the Spanish succession, Versailles, the golden age of Amsterdam, and to nineteenth-century Venice.

His is a story of loyalty and determination, as Tomorrow befriends both animals and humans, falls in love (only once), marvels at the human ability to make music, despairs at their capacity for war and gains insight into both the strength and frailties of the human spirit. But Tomorrow’s journey is also a race against time. Danger stalks his path, and in the shadows lurks an old enemy. Tomorrow must find his master before their pursuer can reach him and his master disappears forever.

A spellbinding story of hope in the face of despair, Tomorrow draws us into a century-spanning tale of humanity and the unbreakable bond between two souls. After all, what is lost can surely be found…

Title: An extraordinary read
Review: This book ranks as one of the most extraordinary books I have ever read. The author's command of the English language is exquisite. And the storyline is captivating. On one hand I wanted to read slowly to savour the words, but on the other hand I wanted to rush through to find out what happens next. And I have to admit I ugly cried during a few passages. I highly recommend this book.

Title: Not just for dog lovers; Great literary fiction
Review: Exceeded my expectations! Lovely book, and not just for dog-lovers. Historical fiction from 1700's to 1815 as a backdrop. Vivid descriptions of some of Venice's most famous landmarks. Intriguing and creative plot with suspense and a gothic vibe in places. Exciting and scenes and a few droll bits of humor. Highly recommended. This is an under-the-radar book selected by our local book club.

Title: Engrossing. Powerful. Rich in detail. A heartbreaking and heartwarming tale.
Review: The most extraordinary journey through the eyes of the most engaging of narrators, a 217 year old dog.The story is engrossing, a page turner, but also so rich in detail and 'color' that you want to slow yourself down so as not to miss out. The detail of the travels our champion takes from Venice through to the Battle of Waterloo (and far beyond) are so beautifully told and rich in historical detail. You can almost imagine being there through the descriptions of sense, smell and experience. The relationship between dog and master is incredibly special and will appeal to anyone who has ever looked into their dog's eyes. Also the relationship between the other protagonists which develop throughout the book. A very powerful book that captures the human spirit and the relationship with man and woman's best friend.

Title: Dogs are our souls
Review: If youve ever loved a dog, he or she has left their glorious mark on you. With them everything in life is better, and a new, curious adventure. Every walk down tne street, or trips to new realms. Tomorrow is so enjoyable but also so believable of a dogs account of his 250 year life, you have to hug your angel, if youre lucky enough to still share days together. Tomorrow is how youd like to walk through your life: loving, respectful, protective, outgoing, and most especially, loyal, always loyal, no matter how hurried our daily lives are. Tomorrow waited for his masters return, searched for him, remembered him for centuries, and each day was new, exciting and adventurous because they experienced it together.

Title: Great Premise, But Fizzled Out...
Review: Overall, a let down. The premise is very creative, and the writing started out well done and was absorbing, but towards the middle there was just too much detail in describing war scenes. Way ever descriptive, and I ended up putting it down as I had no further desire to finish it. I would not bother.

Title: Lush Literary Repast
Review: What an exquisitely wrought story, told in canine first person by a dog whose master has found the secret of eternal life. Set in the block of time between the early 17th Century and August 28, 1833, the day slavery is abolished in Britain, the story of Tomorrow, his master and their erstwhile nemesis Vilder carries the reader through port cities, fields of war (including Waterloo), storms, dungeons, and ballrooms with odorous, tactile, kaleidoscopic descriptions sure to enchant. I was blown away by Dibbens' ability to charm my heart and sensibilities with the clear-eyed narrative of a profound old soul - disguised as a faithful, four-footed companion.Wish there were more stars in the rating constellation - this was a feast.

Title: You Will Ugly Cry, Reread and Want 20 More Of This Book
Review: This book is one of the best I’ve read in a decade. The kind of book you wish you could live inside, that you stay up all night reading and read over and over. Smart, original, deep, fascinating, adventuresome, absorbing, and if you’re a dog lover, it will make you ugly cry several times. The perfect book for anyone who loves historical fiction, dogs, sci-fi or simply a good story. I wish this was a never -ending series.

Review: Lovely account of a swath of history, with some romance, some mysticism, some science and some philosophy all mixed in, and all recounted through the mind of a very loyal and very moral dog. An excellent read!
