Title: One of the Good ones!
Review: While picking children’s books I look for good moral or value to the story. When I picked up “The Oak Inside the Acorn” I couldn’t stop reading. The sweetest little acorn tells the story of growing up and not knowing what his purpose was in life until he allowed God to take hold and reveal his purpose. Falling in love with this book was as easy as 1,2,3!I took this book and used it as a great lesson for children’s church, and I fell in love all over again. Watching the eyes of my kids shine while encouraging the sweet acorn to not give up when he couldn’t grow oranges, or roses. You see this tiny tree struggled with accepting himself and the path for his life, which is a connection point for my kids. “Be the tree God made you to be” quickly became a class motto when one of our friends is struggling. Two of the greatest lessons’ children need to learn are outlined in this book. Patients and Courage. Patients to allow God’s plans to unfold and Courage to be who that person is no matter the storms, the weather, the season or the discouragement. The entire journey of the oak is laid out before you in an easy to follow, easy to understand path to the perfect ending! Max Lucado nailed the message he was intending to deliver to the children around the world and ever child should have access to this book when they are struggling to find their own identity.

Title: "Be the tree God Made you to be"
Review: I bought this book for my son's sixth birthday, uncertain of its message, but hopeful that it had something to do with growing up, and finding God's purpose for your life. It's all in the title-a young acorn, afraid to leave its "mother" tree, goes on a series of adventures until it finally matures enough to become a constant and reliable companion for a young girl, who is also searching for her purpose.Throughout the book, this tree compares himself to those around him-the orange trees, who grow faster and bear fruit. The flowering plants, whose yield is plentiful and more immediately gratifying. He is frustrated by how slowly he grows, by how unremarkable he seems to be, not realizing that it is he who will become the biggest, the strongest, and the greatest of them all. This message was exactly what I wanted to get across to my son. It is so easy for children to get caught up in comparing their accomplishments to others, especially if they mature much more slowly than their peers, or in my case, their siblings. I have children on both ends, and this book can speak to both of them.I was able to read this to a 3 and 6 year old, but it was a bit too long for my three year old, who had run off to grab another book 3/4 of the way through. Also, if you become emotional when you read "love you forever", this book will probably make you cry. I'm not overly emotional, but I couldn't help myself in the end, as I saw the message come full circle. The analogy isn't completely logical, but it works for a child, and I have been able to use it for both of my children throughout the week as their various frustrations come up.4 stars for the length, but with a little editing, it could easily be a five star book (I'm not sure the story line with the orange grove is necessary).

Title: Becoming
Review: A great little story about life, meaning, and purpose. It seems our culture needs to be reacquainted with the Creator, and reminded that we have been fearfully and wonderfully made… as we have been created. Times of questioning? Sure. Normal. But everything Big Oak was meant to become was contained within the acorn he used to be. No drugs or surgery needed to be an orange tree, or flower, or something else… He just needed time to “become.”

Review: Lovely story to read aloud and identified differences between others showing they still have their purpose in God's plan. Bought for my grand daughter aged 5 and concepts maybe difficult for her to fully understand at present, but this book can grow with her.
