Title: A GREAT album for hits of the 60's!
Review: Arrived quickly and I love the songs! It's the original songs we heard on the radio too. It's one of the very best 1960's albums & I have A LOT of them!

Title: Volume 1 of 4
Review: I regard this as the best series of sixties compilations yet released on CD. Even with 200 tracks between four volumes, it would have been easy to continue the series. On compilations like this, I particularly look for classic tracks by artists who only had one or two big hits. Of course, most of the major names are here although you won't find Elvis, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones here due to licensing restrictions. On this volume, I was particularly pleased to find Rescue me (Fontella Bass) as I already had many of the other tracks elsewhere, but there are so many classics here that I never tire of hearing including Flowers in the rain (Move), Waterloo sunset (Kinks), Downtown (Petula Clark), The sun ain't gonna shine any more (Walker brothers), Dock of the bay (Otis Redding), Reach out I'll be there (Four Tops), Dancing in the street (Martha Reeves and the Vandellas) and It's not unusual (Tom Jones) to name a few. Whiter shade of pale (Procol Harum) is here too, though I still haven't figured out what the song is about - not that it matters because it's classic. There are two country songs - Crazy (Patsy Cline) and Wichita lineman (Glen Campbell). I was surprised but pleased to find them here. When I bought this upon its release, I noticed some obvious omissions but subsequent volumes dealt with many of them. Never mind, this was (and remains) a brilliant compilation in its own right.

Title: Correct track list for this 2-disc/50-track set
Review: Excellent collection of original songs by original artists. A previous reviewer posted the track list for a different 3-disc set but this one is only 2-discs. Here's the correct track list (keep in mind this is a UK issue so it includes songs that were popular there and not in the USA during this time period but the vast majority were also popular here):1-1 –The Monkees I'm A Believer1-2 –Sonny & Cher I Got You Babe1-3 –Carole King It Might As Well Rain Until September1-4 –Cliff Richard & The Shadows The Young Ones1-5 –Del Shannon Runaway1-6 –The Four Seasons Let's Hang On1-7 –Dusty Springfield I Only Want To Be With You1-8 –The Everly Brothers* The Price Of Love1-9 –Tommy James & The Shondells Mony Mony1-10 –Jeff Beck Hi Ho Silver Lining1-11 –The Move Flowers In The Rain1-12 –The Kinks Waterloo Sunset1-13 –Beach Boys* Good Vibrations1-14 –The Zombies She's Not There1-15 –Manfred Mann Pretty Flamingo1-16 –The Troggs Love Is All Around1-17 –The Righteous Brothers Unchained Melody1-18 –Gerry & The Pacemakers Ferry Cross The Mersey1-19 –Procul Harum* A Whiter Shade Of Pale1-20 –Glen Campbell Wichita Lineman1-21 –The Hollies He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother1-22 –The Walker Brothers The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore1-23 –Petula Clark Downtown1-24 –Andy Williams Can't Get Used To Losing You1-25 –The Tremeloes Silence Is Golden2-1 –Marvin Gaye I Heard It Through The Grapevine2-2 –Otis Redding (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay2-3 –Aretha Franklin I Say A Little Prayer2-4 –Dionne Warwick Do You Know The Way To San José2-5 –The Supremes You Can't Hurry Love2-6 –The Four Tops* Reach Out, I'll Be There2-7 –Martha Reeves & The Vandellas Dancing In The Street2-8 –Stevie Wonder Uptight (Everything's Alright)2-9 –Sam & Dave Soul Man2-10 –Tom Jones It's Not Unusual2-11 –Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames Yeh Yeh2-12 –The Small Faces* Sha La La La Lee2-13 –Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers Got To Get You Into My Life2-14 –Wilson Pickett In The Midnight Hour2-15 –Eddie Floyd Knock On Wood2-16 –James Brown I Got You (I Feel Good)2-17 –Fontella Bass Rescue Me2-18 –The Moody Blues Go Now2-19 –Van Morrison Brown Eyed Girl2-20 –The Byrds Mr. Tambourine Man2-21 –The Animals House Of The Rising Sun2-22 –Percy Sledge When A Man Loves A Woman2-23 –Patsy Cline Crazy2-24 –Louis Armstrong We Have All The Time In The World2-25 –Ben E. King Stand By MeThere are (3) additional volumes in this series (II, III and IV) so getting all (4) gives you (200) tracks from the sixties which is pretty thorough. I have not checked to see if there is any overlap between the issues but even if there is a few, it still is an outstanding collection and may be the only series of discs you need for songs from the sixties.

Review: Any compilation with such a petulant, optimistic title is bound not to live up to expectations. However, most of mine were met, even though I have many of these tracks elsewhere. It's great to have in one place Cliff's breezy, summery The Young Ones, Carole King's charmingly youthful It Might As Well Rain Until September, Del Shannon's driven Runaway, The Everlys' pounding later hit The Price Of Love, immaculate Zombies one-off She's Not There, Manfred Mann's finest single Pretty Flamingo, the sublimely righteous Unchained Melody, and impeccable, yearning Wichita Lineman. There's also Andy Williams at his best, two immortal tracks by the Four Tops & Martha & the Vandellas, the original r'n'b-inflected Moodies' unforgettable chart-topper Go Now, and of course the peerless Waterloo Sunset, a song it's never the wrong time to hear, by the one mid-60s group who perhaps, Beatles aside, sound as fresh & timeless today as they ever did.I would have chosen different examples by the Beach Boys {Do It Again or California Girls instead of the overhyped Good Vibrations}, the wonderful Hollies (I'm Alive or Yes I Will instead of He Ain't Heavy ...}, The Move {perhaps Blackberry Way or Tonight rather than the dated Flowers In The Rain}, and Cliff Bennett & the Rebel Rousers, whose sturdy version of the Beatles' Got To Get You Into My Life is fine, but I'd have chosen their superb Drifters cover One Way Love. There's hardly anything here I don't like ~ though a little of Mony Mony and Hi Ho Silver Lining go a long way now, and Silence Is Golden isn't a patch on the hits the Tremeloes had with Brian Poole, Do You Love Me, Someone Someone, and Candy Man.Van the Man is represented by the goodtime Brown Eyed Girl, and who could possibly have left off The Byrds, with that opening riff to Mr Tambourine Man as redolent of sixties pop as anything else on this almost perfect 50-track anthology.{I just thank the compilers for not including the awful Where Do You Go To My Lovely by Peter Sarstedt. Thanks for that, though I daresay it's on a future volume in the series.}Worth having, not least as each CD is filled almost to its maximum 75 or so mins. Some welcome Motown & classic soul too.Ah, those were the days, my friend ...
