Title: best material
Review: I would say that this volume (I) and the men's volume (II) are probably some of the best material I got my hands on. Big, heavy duty hard back books.

Title: genuine joy, a clear conscience
Review: This is a review of Bill Gothard’s 1981 Institute of Basic Youth Conflicts Research in Principles of Life. Gothard, a minister, speaker and writer is most notably known as the founder of the Institute of Basic Life Principles. Although a very controversial minister, some of the Biblical and principals taught are informative. The central argument of this book is focused on certain Biblical principles of life that can eventually lead to developing harmonious relationships with God. While working with youth, Gothard discovered a gap between Biblical scriptures and real-world Christianity practices. The main theme of the book is his basic principles of life (i.e. self-acceptance, inward peace, genuine joy, a clear conscience, true security, moral purity, and final life purpose). Gothard explains that God has instituted “umbrellas” of authority for our protection. It is when we move out from under those “umbrellas,” we place ourselves in danger.Gothard’s argument was made in order to simplify the pathway to achieve harmony with God. It could be claimed that it was made based on the fact that Christians should be trained, and have their faith strengthened in terms of leading an ideal Christian life, through actively integrating God’s word in real-time decisions. The argument by Gothard in his work focuses on the basic principles of life. According to Gothard, when the basic principles are violated, there are consequences. These and other teachings of Gothard makes his work different, and controversial. The rationale for its originality lies in the fact that the basic principles Gothard depicts have a close relationship with the Ten Commandments. For instance, one of the most important Commandments is “to love thy neighbor as yourself.” In his book, Gothard mentions ways to incorporate God’s work in decisions that people make in everyday life. For example, this Commandment is close to the first basic principle, which is staying in harmony with one another as the first basic principle.I found this book to be controversial and tedious. Perhaps my ability to disassociate the recent press from the media gives a sense of hypocrisy. This contradicts the teachings and my beliefs. However, the book does possess some foundational Biblical doctrines along with illustrations and simple descriptions. I enjoyed reading the six areas of conflict Gothard discusses. The area of: assurance of salvation, self-image, purpose in life, harmony at home, moral purity, and genuine friendship, which spoke to me and my Christian walk. After reading this book, there are a few questions that came to my mind. Are we able to document if Gothard’s work has been able to truly transform the mindset of people concerning how to lead a healthy Christian life? Has research in the principles of life transformed Gothard’s life? It would be interesting to discuss this book within the broader conversation in 2017. What other books on this topic are popular nowadays? How do they compare?

Title: Non-optional Basic Life Principles
Review: God has instituted 7 non-optional basic life principles in this universe of ours. Every person in the universe, regardless of background, must follow these principles God has instituted, the way God wants us to (the right way), we are blessed as a consequence. When we violate these principles, we suffer the consequences. Non-optional means we cannot choose to leave them out of our lives. The 7 principles are: 1. Design, 2. Authority 3. Responsibility, 4. Suffering, 5. Ownership, 6. Freedom, 7. Success. As i accept the way God has designed me: my height, my birth order, my family of origin, my ethnicity, the way i look (things i can't change,) i learn to be grateful to God & have self-acceptance & won't feel the need to waste $$ to change anything God gave me. As i accept God's design of the chain of command God has placed in my life & honor their position over me, i have inward peace because they are designed for my guidance & protection. As i learn the responsibility of my words, actions, thought, & motive, ask forgiveness & make restitution where needed & possible, i develop a clear conscience. As i allow the hurts in my life to reveal the 'blind spots' in me, learn to help & forgive the offender, i develop genuine joy as i learn to change my blind spots with God's help. As i yield all i have & am to God's ownership, God brings true security. Enjoying the power & desire to do what is right rather than claiming my privilege to do what i want, regains surrendered ground to sin, i gain moral purity. By discovering God's purpose for my life, engrafting Scriptures into my life & thoughts, meditating God's way, i learn to make wise decisions for God's purpose in my life. It does not matter whether people claim these principles are right or wrong, as you study God's Word for yourself, which is the Holy Bible, you will discover for yourself what God teaches.
