In The Power of the Actor, a Los Angeles Times bestseller, premier acting teacher and coach Ivana Chubbuck reveals her cutting-edge technique, which has launched some of the most successful acting careers in Hollywood.
The first book from the instructor who has taught Charlize Theron, Brad Pitt, Elisabeth Shue, Djimon Hounsou, and Halle Berry, The Power of the Actor guides you to dynamic and effective results. For many of today’s major talents, the Chubbuck Technique is the leading edge of acting for the twenty-first century. Ivana Chubbuck has developed a curriculum that takes the theories of the acting masters, such as Stanislavski, Meisner, and Hagen, to the next step by utilizing inner pain and emotions, not as an end in itself, but rather as a way to drive and win a goal.
In addition to the powerful twelve-step process, the book takes well-known scripts, both classic and contemporary, and demonstrates how to precisely apply Chubbuck’s script-analysis process. The Power of the Actor is filled with fascinating and inspiring behind-the-scenes accounts of how noted actors have mastered their craft and have accomplished success in such a difficult and competitive field.

Title: Practical and wonderful
Review: This book is essential to anyone aspiring to be any kind of actor. The process can be applied across all genre's. I am a student at Ivana Chubbuck's studio in LA, and I have to say that even though I benefit from her actual physical presence and face to face teaching, I couldn't imagine not having the book. It's kind of like our bible (pardon my blasphemy). I have gifted this book to my actor friends who live outside LA, and it has been received well. So, what is this book without my close personal bias? In short, it's a step by step practical way that shows you how to get the most out of your scene study. Step one leads you into step two, and so on and so forth. And then as a bonus, there are also chapters that give you step by step ways to effectively act out certain circumstances like dying, being drunk, or being high, etc.Step by Step people! This book is practical! It's not full of theoretical ethereal bull poo poo. It's tried and tested.

Title: Required for her classes
Review: I like this book. I bought it because I'm taking her classes next month and you're supposed to read this before you start.I like it because it BREAKS things down, it's a great process and Ivana is clearly very smart. It's missing a star because sometimes, I'd get lost. There are a lot of name-drops / examples of celebrities she's worked with, and while I can understand her reasoning for doing that, it was just too much information for me. I wish it was just an example instead of making it more complicated and cluttered by adding the names of celebrities and what she did to work with them. (I have ADHD and it's hard for me to focus and hold attention, so maybe this is just me.

Review: I read this book 8 months ago.At first, I wasnât really into the SUBSTITUTION branch of acting; I preferred the IMAGINATION one.But now, after more personal and professional growth, I can say that THIS is one of the books that can truly change your acting craft. In this guide, Chubbuck details a 12-STEP TECHNIQUE, and ALL of these elements are helpful. She also explains a lot about HUMAN BEHAVIOR, mainly from the "power dynamics" perspective. She combines acting with a psychoanalytical approach, so...I wholeheartedly recommend it! 🙂

Review: I cannot comment on the actual book myself because I did not read it but this was a gift for my mum who is in the acting world. This really helped her with different techniques and strategies to get into character for different parts. She has applied this book to some of her audition tapes, and she said she has found it very helpful as well as an interesting read.

Review: Absolutely the best technique for your craft. Studied with her and recommend this book to any actor. Great for referencing and for honing your skills. To train with Ivana would be ideal yet some cannot travel to her classes on a readily basis, hence utilising her book as an alternative.
