Alcohol Explained is the definitive, ground-breaking guide to alcohol and alcoholism. It explains how alcohol affects human beings on a chemical, physiological, and psychological level, from those first drinks right up to chronic alcoholism. Alcoholism and problem drinking seems illogical to those on the outside; indeed, it is equally perplexing for the alcoholic or problem drinker. This audiobook provides a logical, easy-to-follow explanation of the phenomenon and detailed instructions on how to beat it. Despite being entirely scientific and factual in nature, the audiobook is presented in an accessible and easily understandable format.

"This is an excellent book written by an inquisitive and educated author who during a period of his life suffered from alcoholism. The book explains in an easily understood language the various effects that alcohol has on our body. In my opinion the text would serve as a great handbook not only for those struggling with alcohol but also medical students as part of their education. I am sure some of my own patients troubled with alcoholism in recent years could have benefited from reading William’s book and I will be recommending it going forward." - Håvard Molvik, MD, MRCS, MSc, MRCGP

Title: Literally Life-Changing
Review: This book has doubled or tripled my quality of life. Most drinkers do not seem to understand what the substance is, or the effect it is having on their body, their relationships and their life. This book will change all of that in just a few hours of reading.I ordered "Alcohol Explained" to help me with what was originally intended as a six month "break" from alcohol. Porter's first book had me not just convinced, but *excited* to live a life free from alcohol, because of the succinct presentation of facts, by about page 60. Not only have I not craved a drink since, but I am 100% confident I will never have one again (we're coming up on 6 months.) My relationships have improved, my memory of "last night" is now accurate, I lost 35# without even trying because I now hike, snowboard and play disc golf for fun instead of drinking. My career as a photographer and gallery owner is showing a lot more potential, I am feeling great and loving life. Alcohol does not add one singular positive thing to a human existence. Anything that a person enjoys doing while drinking can be enjoyed without booze--and with no hangover the next day and without acting like a jerk or an idiot. It's simple math. Great book, I'd hug this guy.

Title: Alcohol is poison!
Review: I bought this for an alcoholic friend but read it first myself because my heart doctor advised me not to drink alcohol. It is so intelligently written that I have NO intention now of ever drinking alcohol again.

Title: clear and informative
Review: I've read a number of books on this topic, so the material isn't new to me. But it is very clearly written and presented logically, which is refreshing. I also like that he gives facts and knowledge rather than a lot of anecdotal evidence. The two reasons I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is that 1) the author never gives his credentials, other than to mention he is a lawyer and former drinker. And 2), the information is not revelatory, not for me anyway. Still, if you haven't read any books on alcohol addiction and how to overcome it, this would be a good starting point.

Title: Thank you, William Porter
Review: Today is my first year anniversary of not drinking. I read Alcohol Explained because I didn't want any religious, big bad alcohol industry, or societal statements - I wanted just the facts about how alcohol affects the brain and body physiologically, psychologically, neurologically, and emotionally. And while many criticisms have been leveled at the author (e.g., repetitive, typos, no references), I found it an incredibly impactful read. From the moment I started reading it, not having alcohol hasn't been hard for me, and I never thought I would be able to say that. I just simply lost interest. There is no pull for me, and nothing that I have to resist. I can be around others drinking with no effort. There is no hardship. I can recognize a craving as something that I have conscious choice over, and in literally less than a minute, the thought is gone. I am free over something that consumed my thinking off and on for 50 years. I am very grateful for William Porter putting pen to paper to contribute this to others. It has made a profound difference in my quality of life and health.

Title: This book completely changed my relationship with alcohol.
Review: I came to this book after unpleasant experiences with alcohol that were increasing in frequency. Sleepless anxiety late at night. Shaky hands in the morning. It didnât happen a lot, but it started to happen often enough that my opinion of alcohol was souring fast.I read this book with the intention of understanding whatâs happening. I never reached a full addiction and this book helped ensure I never will. Most of the time, I simply enjoyed a glass or two of wine in the evening⦠I really underestimated how much even this little bit of drinking affects EVERYTHING. I get it now though. If I had anything negative to say about this book, I would nitpick how many anecdotes are presented as evidence, but thereâs enough actual science to make up for it â and when a book can be truly life-changing for people, Iâd rather not nitpick anything.

Review: This book changed the way I have perceived alcohol so far. I strongly recommend it to anyone who sense they are a slave to the booze. It feels as though you were hypnotized, and now you just wake up and see things so clearly.
