In GET YOUR FATS STRAIGHT, Sarah Pope exposes the low-fat movement and the devastating health effects it is having on people in our society today.Have you ever wondered why obesity is rampant and heart disease and cancer, even in the young, seem uncontrollable? Have you ever wondered why so many people suffer from chronic illness and lack energy? It could be because of the so-called health foods you are eating. In the 1970s, the U.S. Dietary Goals advised Americans to cut back on fat and eat more carbs to lower the risk of heart disease. But some experts say this high-carb, low-fat diet helped fuel obesity.A long-time chapter leader for the Weston A. Price Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to "restoring nutrient-dense foods to the American diet", blogger and health advocate Sarah Pope, presents three simple steps you need to take to regain your own health and raise children to be healthy and fulfill their physical potential.Do you want to get on with your life with greater vitality and a strong immune system, so you can handle whatever comes your way? This book is for you. GET YOUR FATS STRAIGHT provides you with cost-effective tips for straightening out your diet and give you a new lease on life for yourself as well as the comfort to know that your loved ones will have the best chance to live their lives to their fullest physical potential too.

Title: I loved her simple way of doing things and her thorough ...
Review: I'm new to traditional cooking (literally several weeks-new) and leaning towards becoming a member of the Weston A. Price Foundation. I began watching Sarah Pope's videos on YouTube (researching how-to videos on Kombucha) and began looking at other stuff on her channel. I loved her simple way of doing things and her thorough way of expressing and explaining things. I loved her passion for what she was teaching and her devotion. I am a firm believer in God not making things complicated in following His Will and that includes what we put in our bodies. Being so new to this, however, it seemed overwhelming with all the misinformation that is available regarding fats and what is supposedly good for us. The things I was learning through Sarah's videos just made sense to me because they were so simple and based on plain old common sense. I purchased her book after hearing what she had to say about it. I'm so glad I did. Everything is so simple to follow and easy for me to outline and use as a foundation to build on in pursuing traditional cooking and why it is important to do so. This book has God-sent for me as a beginner to good nutrition by knowing the proper fats. I refer to it all the time. I love the simple recipes towards the end of the book. Again, for me it's about the fundamentals and building upon it--becoming More through Good Health. The recipes serves as a means to build upon your own creativity in the kitchen-traditionally, of course! This book is a must read for anyone just starting out to traditional cooking as a means to being healthy. It will give you the "need to know" basics (and the truth) on the proper fats we need to consume in order for our bodies to function in the manner God intended. I'm so grateful for this book!

Title: Great book-everyone needs to read it for better health
Review: After years of low or no fat eating now to find it was all wrong. Fats are healthy (if you consume the right ones) My skin, hair and nails greatly improved. Sara goes through the healthy fats and why you should have them. For years they had us afraid of butter, coconut oil, palm oil only now to find that saturated fat has nothing to do with heart disease. I love my eggs cooked in butter... and I stay full longer. Many researchers are coming forward with new evidence that the original testing about saturated fat was flawed. I'm going back to traditional way of eating -the way my grandmother ate. She used butter, olive oil (she was Italian) never fried with it only for salads, which was everyday- before the meal and drizzling a little on top of the pizza dough before she baked it. For frying she used lard, yes lard and in the pie crust -the pies were delicious! My grandma lived a long life... she passed away at 99. (She did have arthritis).

Title: Good Back to Basics
Review: I love Sarah's approach to dealing with all our so called "Franken Foods" of today. Even if they are labeled healthy or bought in a health food store they are often a combination of many additives or sweeteners that are anything but healthy. I also love her website, filled with very practical information about how to take your diet back from the mega food distributors and the food desert many of us call grocery stores. The book is about the importance of getting our fats straight, but at $15 a bit overpriced, especially for a small paperback. Also some of the information like, taking fermented cod liver oil and eliminating all vegetable oils are contradicted in later blogs and articles where she promotes regular cod liver oil and using virgin olive oil; things she is against it appears in this book.Unfortunately in the nutrition and health food industry, what is deemed good today by research might be bad tomorrow depending on new studies, or even environmental, farming or food processing changes. So Sarah is not to blame per se, she is writing about an industry that is in constant flux. A good product today, could be bought out by another company and change the product composition tomorrow. In this sense we are all potential victims of the food and nutrition industries. So while she should not be necessarily held to fault, it is the other weakness of the book. Today's beliefs and research always give way to tomorrows. Her emphasis on getting back to basics and owning your food sources and making your kitchen your pharmacy is right on and is the strength of the book.

Title: Great read
Review: This is a great little book by the "healthy home economist." Sarah Pope gives a clear and compelling explanation about the benefits of coconut oil, butter and fermented cod liver oil, and why commercial vegetables oils, and "heart healthy" canola oil isn't a good thing at all. As more and more mainstream physicians, researchers and the media admit that maybe the whole rush away from traditional fats and towards factory-made products was ill considered, this book will educate a reader new to this concept while providing additional insights to those like me who've been using coconut oil, butter, ghee, lard and tallow for several years. This book will entice the reader to get back to butter basics and make him or her feel great about doing so.

Review: Need more and better info than the author could provide - so I will buy another book on the topic. This was an easy read though.

Title: Highly recommend.
Review: Super informative and useful. When I read this book, it's so obvious why Sarah is not part of the JJ Virgin, Sarah Gottfried clique. She really tells it like it is and has nothing to sell. After following all the new "product docs", I introduced butter and coconut oil to my diet and GAINED WEIGHT. This is probably because nobody has talked about proportions... In Sarah's book, she clearly states the adding 1 TB of coconut oil to tea 20 minutes before eating will help curb your appetite. This is in stark contrast to Dave Asprey who touts adding multiple tablespoons to coffee or others who don't talk about measurements at all. Also, while Sarah does recommend Kerry Gold butter in her book, her blog has updated information and she is no longer recommending that brand. I highly recommend this book.

Review: Very well written. Would recommend this book to my family and friends. Especially the ones who are still eating low fat high sugar foods and following SAD diets. More people should use their local farmers to buy raw grass fed dairy and meat. 👍👍

Review: When you take the time to digest the information presented in this book, it really makes so much sense. I am going back to the so called "old" ways of eating. Yes we were taken in by all the new age hype as well. Not a good plan. Back to basics for me.

Review: The writer is from the Westin A Price foundation and shares their views. Unlike traditional diet advice, which wants to eliminate saturated fasts, and instead use polyunsaturated vegetable oils, the author is very much in favor of quality animal products: full fat cream, butter, milk and eggs, all from naturally raised grass pasture fed animals free of antibiotics and hormones. She also likes Coconut and Palm oil, and a few other special oils too. Her message is that saturated fats-from healthy sources-should be consumed in abundance for optimal health. She also states that we need to avoid the polyunsaturated vegetable oils, such as corn, sunflower, and Canola oil and skimmed milk. She also goes into some of the corruption that big Agro has had on our perceptions of fats. I tend to agree with her message, and it is overdue. The writing style is very direct and to the point. It is designed for the layman to understand in a clear and understandable style. It is not an encyclopedia academic tome covering everything. Instead, it is direct and focused message with clear explanations that anyone can understand and usually read within a few hours. The print quality and paper are nice and easy to read. My only complaint is that this book is a bit pricey considering that it only has 113 pages.

Review: Learning more about the benefits of good fats and how to incorporate them into a nutritious life style. I, along with many other people ( including doctors, nutritionists, etc.), appear to have been brainwashed to believe saturated fats are bad for our health; dependent on views of government health officials/guidelines, politics and big company profits for their products!I would recommend this book to others, solely because we need to explore a more rounded and educated view on the pros and cons regarding various fats!
