Comedic and Inspirational memoir from the stand-up comic who coined the phrase “Happy Wife, Happy Life”.

Leave it to a comedian to find God through the Bible’s most depressing book.

For years, one of the funniest men in America was crying on the inside. Jeff Allen was a comedian with the lead role in a tragedy.

Born into a tough working-class Chicago family, Allen fell into substance abuse at an early age, and his problems didn’t magically go away when he got married. In fact, with the arrival of two children, they intensified. The sense that his life was meaningless made his family life as dark and biting as his comedy.

But in his darkest moment, an unlikely encounter with the gloomiest book of the Bible set him on the path to salvation. The opening line of Ecclesiastes— “Meaningless, meaningless, all in life is meaningless”—resonated with him.

So he kept reading, and soon he discovered the Source of meaning. Eventually, Allen found himself with a revitalized marriage and a repurposed career.

If you have struggled to find meaning in your life, this book is for you.

With his trademark humor and unflinching honesty, Allen will point you to the only One who can answer the question, “Are we there yet?” You’ll know when you’ve arrived.

Title: A Story of Redemption
Review: For anyone who struggles with substance issues or marriage difficulties, this is a testimony of redemption. Jeff and his wife, Tami, went through many difficult years. Jeff is very up front regarding his struggles, but even more direct regarding the source of his healing and strength - it is his faith in Jesus. To those who dismiss Christian faith as a crutch, you're right, and everyone is crippled. For those who dismiss Christian faith as a belief in some wizard or daddy in the sky, so did Jeff - until he met the Creator personally. This is not a funny book, although there are definitely funny passages. It is a testimony of one man's, and one couple's, journey.I highly recommend it. For anyone who has not been to one of Jeff's comedy appearances, I highly recommend that, too. He is a very funny comedian.

Title: Truly inspirational
Review: I had caught snippets of Jeff Allen’s routines and found them very funny, and then one day I watched a video where he shared his testimony. I was blown away. By his message, by his humility, by his honesty-just blown away. At the opportunity to purchase this book I didn’t hesitate; I pre-ordered, got it, read it, and was blown away again. This book is raw honesty from Jeff and from his beautiful wife. What a blessing to us all, that they chose to share their pain, struggles, and ultimate victory with us. God is good! And He loves us, and His ways are not ours. What an amazing reminder of that, all in a potentially life changing book-from a comedian! We can all relate to this story. God bless you Jeff and Tami. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Title: Inspiring Book
Review: Very inspiring book about overcoming sin and adversity in this sinful world. However, I wish he would have left out one sentence. I do not need to know that he beat his dog. Hard for me to get that out of my head. But, I'm a sinner too, so I must forgive him. I just wish he had left that out of the book.

Title: Jeff Allen's book are we there yet
Review: I started this book with no expectations.I had seen mister Allen live January 5, 2024 at the Spartanburg Memorial auditorium. I bought the book from amazon.I am retired.I s at down and read the book January 9, 2024.I only stopped reading to go to the bathroom. It was 1 of the most interesting things I have ever read. Actually I got out a highlighter and began highlighting things that I found profound.I teach once a month at church I want to use some of the guotes especially some of the scripture mister Allen referenced.I plan to buy more copies to give to appropriate persons.I would recommend this book to anyone as a wonderful read

Title: Easy read about Jeff's path of experiences ... into a self-awareness journey
Review: Jeff Allen’s book, Are We There Yet?, is a deep, yet easy read about Jeff’s path of experiences that slowly blossomed into a self-awareness journey. From Chapter 1: How Did We Get Here to the final Chapter 12: Reflections on the Journey, the stories are painful and then joyous, evolving from what I like to think of as Jeff’s Old Testament phase of the past surrendering to Jeff’s New Testament phase of the present. One of my favorite lines is in Chapter 9: Born Again. “The problems in our lives didn’t go away, but the lens through which I viewed them sure did”. This line hit home because there are uncomfortable events in my own life that can be better delt with by changing the lens through which I view them. The closing is lovely, and I cannot wait until I receive my audio book to hear Jeff himself read that out loud.
