SAVING TRADITIONS AND SHARING SKILLS, ONE GRANNY AT A TIME!
"When you have good ingredients, you don't have to worry about cooking. They do the work for you." – Lucia, 85
Learn how to make pasta like Italian nonnas do. Inspired by the hugely popular YouTube channel of the same name, Pasta Grannies is a wonderful collection of time-perfected Italian pasta recipes from the people who have spent a lifetime cooking for love, not a living: Italian grandmothers.
For a nonna, love is putting food on the table, and pasta is the perfect vehicle to make precious ingredients go further. Featuring easy and accessible recipes from all over Italy, you will be transported into the very heart of the Italian home to learn how to make great-tasting Italian food. From pici – a type of hand-rolled spaghetti that is simple to make – to lumachelle della duchessa – tiny, ridged, cinnamon-scented tubes that take patience and dexterity, every nonna has her own special recipe. Pasta Grannies brings together the huge diversity of these authentic dishes and also celebrates the expertise, life and extraordinary stories of the amazing women behind them.

Title: So Very Different
Review: "Pasta Grannies" is the most unusual Italian Cookbook I have ever seen, (now own)! Many recipes for authentic dishes I've had traveling Italy, which are rarely seen Italian Restaurant menus in the U.S., nor in Italian Cookbooks, are here in "Pasta Grannies!"The Grannies ("Nonne" in Italian) describe how to make and prepare the various pastas, then the recipes for the sauces, soups, vegetables, meats and more, which they accompany and are authentic Italian meals. All regions of Italy are included as are all the meals of a day!MANGIA! MANGIA!

Title: Delicious Recipes and great fun
Review: I love this book for its Italian recipes and heart warming personal stories. Pasta Grannies gathers authentic pasta recipes from all over the country. It is a national treasure for the history it imparts thanks to the author, Vicky Bennison and each of the contributors for their oral histories.

Title: Real Italian Cooking
Review: I really love this cookbook. The recipes are the type that you'd find if you traveled to Italy and had a meal with an Italian family. Also, you'll find recipes you don't seen in most Italian cookbooks, but are mainstream enough that you know what they are. Delicious!

Title: Great sounding, unusual regional recipes by some tradtional regional areas.
Review: I loved the book and these women who clearly know their way around pasta dishes. These women lived through World War 2 so they are individuals who survived difficult times. These recipes are really hands on productions but for those occasions when you have some helping hands, it will be the star of the meal. Also most dishes would freeze quite well. I have another book on regional Italian. Loki g and it ainât all spaghetti and pizzaâ¦..this book can introduce you to some great new regional dishes

Title: I have made some of the recipes and here's my opinion
Review: Most of the reviews refer to the youtube channel which is truly a work of archival Italian female cooking history. They are not wrong in their praise. However, I want to let you know that I have made several (not all, not even the majority) of the recipes, and those that I have made are real life, perfect home-cooked food. The ingredients are simple and excellent. Plus, making pasta at home is fun (I confess I use my kitchen aide to roll out the pasta dough because I do not have the skill to hand roll it out. But, regardless, try it, hand rolling or not, it is fun). You should all try Monica's Pasta Basket with Ricotta and Lemon (page 227). I did not have the skill to make the baskets, but made regular raviolis and, along with the sauce recipe, I can honestly I have never had, or made, such an interesting, and at the same, time joyous dish. The ragu recipe on page 158 is also very good.I have purchased many Italian cookbooks which are just to fussy (I am not including Marcella Hazan, those cookbooks are extraordinary). I cannot recommend Pasta Grannies enough. As I work my way through the recipes, if my opinion changes, I will update my review.

Review: No one can deny that grandmothers have kept traditions alive through ages and trends. This book is a cookbook yes, but it much much more. It is a glimpse at how these grandmothers have carried through their daily cooking the secrets that they now share with us. It is also a look in the Italian culture. Each recipe has it's story, and are well described, written so we can also start traditions in our families. The book is just beautiful to touch (embossed) and to read. One starts by reading...then one cooks. To honour their work. Great Great Book!

Review: This is a great book if you: (i) like pasta (baffled by those complaining that this book is about pasta... clue is in the title); (ii) don't mind cooking from scratch to eat food you just can't get in most restaurants; (iii) have some basic pasta skills.I've made pasta before so I was fine following the instructions. If you haven't, photography is no substitute for watching people do it (that's how every pasta granny learnt to make pasta after all), so just go on the youtube videos and watch people do it. The fact that there is an amazing supplementary youtube channel associated with this book is not a reason to downgrade it, it's a reason to upgrade it. And no, the youtube channel is not a substitute for the book - the book contains the quantities and descriptions, the videos just show you how it's done if you need the extra help.I use the book for reference if I have an ingredient I want to use for dinner, and everything I have cooked has come out really well. There are really good regional recipes in here that would take most of us a lifetime of travel to discover, and it's a brilliant concept to preserve those recipes in an age where the global food industry has homogenised foods.I've already pre-ordered the second book!
