With The Cookie Jar, Hannah Swensen has a mouthwatering monopoly on the bakery business of Lake Eden, Minnesota. But when a rival store opens, tensions begin to bubble. . .

As she sits in her nearly empty store on Groundhog Day, Hannah can only hope that spring is just around the corner--and that the popularity of the new Magnolia Blossom Bakery is just a passing fad. The southern hospitality of Lake Eden's two Georgia transplants, Shawna Lee and Vanessa Quinn, is grating on Hannah's nerves—and cutting into her profits.

At least Hannah has her business partner Lisa's wedding to look forward to. She's turned one of Lisa's favorite childhood treats into a spectacular Wedding Cookie Cake. And Lisa's aunt will be bringing her famous Peach Cobbler to the reception. But Hannah starts to steam when she finds out that Shawna Lee has been invited--and is bringing her own Peach Cobbler.

Hannah doesn't like having the Georgia Peach in the mix, especially when both Shawna Lee and Hannah's sometime-boyfriend, Detective Mike Kingston, are no-shows to the wedding. Hannah has suspected that Mike is interested in more than Shawna Lee's baking abilities. So when she sees lights on at the Magnolia Blossom Bakery after the reception, she investigates--and finds Shawna Lee shot to death.

Everyone in town knew the Cookie Jar was losing business to the Magnolia Bakery--a fact that puts Hannah at the top of the initial list of suspects. But with a little help from her friends, Hannah's determined to prove that she wasn't the only one who had an axe to grind with the Quinn sisters. Somebody wasn't fooled by the Georgia Peaches and their sweet-as-pie act--and now it's up to Hannah to track down whoever had the right ingredients to whip up a murder. . .

Title: A Peachy Mystery
Review: The Magnolia Blossom Bakery, with it's shining new equipment, a beautiful Magnolia Tree mural on the wall, Pink & White decorations and they're having contests, giving away hundreds of dollars worth or pastries each day.Hannah Swenson thought it was nice to have another bakery in town, if it wasn't owned and run by Shawna Lee Quinn and her widowed, rich sister Vanessa, and wasn't located directly across the street from "The Cookie Jar", her bakery. As her profits dropped she started to worry about possibly going out of business. But she wanted to keep it from her partner, Lisa, who was getting married to her policeman boyfriend Herb soon, and doesn't want to worry her.Hannah knew that Shawna was trying to take her boyfriend, Mike away from her, but she's more furious at her attempt to bankrupt her business. Afterall, with a rich relative who didn't mind loosing money on the venture, Shawna could hold out for a long time, even if her bakery goods weren't as tasty as Hannah's.But even Hannah didn't want the rivalry to end the way it did, when she found Shawna Lee in the kitchen of the Magnolia Blossom, shot dead.Who would want to kill Shawna Lee? Well, maybe Hannah, which is why she went to the top of the list. And when Mike starts acting strange in the invesatigation, Hannah knows she's going to have to clear her own name or loosing the Cookie Jar is going to be the least of her problems.Highlights:Norman Rhodes - dentist - one of Hannah's boyfriends. This character has grown throughout this series from someone I thought was going to end up as a murderer or victim in the early books. In one of my earlier reviews I had said I wasn't sure if he was supposed to be a continuing character. With his non-boyfriend of the heroine name. (Sorry all you Norman's) to his father's very nasty secret which made him a prime suspect in the first book, I've always felt he was an expendable character, but that the author has written him so well, that he's become an indespensible character.Norman's groundhog day gift to Hannah. The Mystery: Great. I love the intertwining of charcters which go back over several books in the series.Hannah's friends and family. Close-knit, you can almost feel the warmth and love between all of these characters. The recipes: Back where they belong at the end of the chapters and the recipes in Joanne Fluke's books are the best of any series. I actually have baked a lot of them.Lowlights:Mike. What happened to him? Not only is he a jerk throughout this book, but I didn't buy the ending with him and Hannah at all. I don't think he would have done it that way. Although, Norman's reaction is perfect for his character. This book decided it for me. It's NORMAN she needs.Shawna Lee Quinn. I was sorry she was the victim. I liked her, she was in love with Mike and followed him to Lake Eden, and was trying to win him from Hannah. She wasn't the brightest bulb in town so it doesn't surprise me that putting Hannah out of business would seem a good idea to her. I actually think she and Mike would have been a good coupleLove the book, the mystery, the people, the recipes. A perfect combination, what more can a mystery reader ask for?

Title: Peachy Keen on this book!
Review: I complained in my review of the previous Fluke novel, "Sugar Cookie Murder" because the mystery was far too short and the recipes too numerous. I said I wasn't going to say the series was plummeting for me until I read the next one. Well now I have, and I can honestly say this is the one I have enjoyed most in the series to this point. This was a relatively well padded volume. The murder didn't happen until over a hundred pages in but I still enjoyed reading about Hannah, her friends, her cat, and Lisa's wedding. Again, sinking into a Hannah Swensen book is like re-visiting old friends. The murder never truly became the sole hightlight of the story though. Hannah seemed more intent on the mystery of Mike's nightly routines than she did on proving who was a murderer. But it worked, I flew through the book and immediately ordered the next one. Also, as I approach the 'current' end of the series in just a couple of short books, I lement on the fact that my visits with Hannah are soon to be limited to once a year when a new book is released. Four stars for a fun book that is among the best (if not THE best) of the series.

Title: Dive in and take a bite, it's delicious
Review: This truly is the food lover's perfect mystery series and is quite satisfying when I'm in the greedy mood for sweet treats and mayhem. Crusty and flaky nibbles of cookies and cake are laced though out the novel, with many rich coffee breaks thrown in and a great mystery to boot. Peach Cobbler murder is as appetizing as it is entertaining and as usual it left me hungry for more. With the wedding happening, who's wedding you want to know, well I don't want to spoil things, but one happens, and coincidentally a murder happens at the same time, is the wedding the perfect distraction for the heinous act or was is simply the case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time? That is left to the investigators, and as usual Lake Eden has plenty of curious people trying to get down to the truth. New competition in the form of Shawna Lee and Vanessa Quinn appear in both, Hannah's professional and personal life, not only is her relationship with Mike in competition from Shawna but the new bakery opening in front of her own, ran by the sisters is draining Hannah out of funds and sanity. When one of them ends up shot in cold blood, no one looks less guilty than Hannah herself, while the real killer it out and ready to strike again. I enjoyed how intelligent this mystery was, the suspects were out there and the clues lead me in many directions making this a really fun read.I loved this book, the bits with Moishe and the shrimp were hilarious, I was laughing out loud, and Hannah gets closer to both Mike and Norman, making that part of the book even more juicy and interesting, I'm totally hooked now, especially considering the stellar ending, wow...Now I want to find out what happened next...This series is the perfect dose of cute and cozy and the more I read it the more I like it, now that's what I call a good thing.- Kasia S.

Review: I love this series of books. The fact that the same characters appear in each of the books helps to make them comfortable and familiar. The plots are OK - not earth shattering but that does not matter when entering the lives of the Swensons and their friends.
