Title: campground/campsite guide-bible
Review: my bother turned me on to these books and so far, Tom Watson has never lead us astray with any of his tent camping recommendations and observations. I have Missouri/Ozarks, Colorado, Illinois, and now Minnesota. This is an increasingly invaluable resource for planning a camping trip as more and more campgrounds make the switch to being 100% reservable online. The days of having the luxury of just showing up early and picking out a campsite are drawing to an end, and without being able to see them in person, these resource books from Tom Watson really shine.

Title: Good resource for camping enthusiasts. Not really specific to tenting.
Review: If your looking for a resource to help sort through Minnesota State Park options, or if you just like camping and want to check out new parks; this is a great choice. If you'll be camping in a motor-home/trailer I still think you could find this useful as the author ranks parks for amenities like best hiking, swimming, paddling, fishing, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, bicycling, birding, boating, and family friendly. He also tries to rank parks on spaciousness, security, cleanliness and quietness. The last 2 categories probably vary quite a bit from week to week so I wouldn't put much stock in that.Tent campers; this is not terribly specific on things that tenters like to know (are there a lot of motor homes rolling through, camper doors closing all day, generators running, rules on tents per site), but there are a several nice descriptions of the sites to help you choose a good spot to reserve site-unseen. Don't expect a description of every site though.28 of the 49 parks reviewed here are State Parks (McCarthy Beach has two entries so I only counted it once), and most of those are in southern and central Minnesota. In northern Minnesota, most of options reviewed are State or National Forest Campgrounds which is nice as often information about these more "primitive" campgrounds is hard to come by. Having said that; it does not appear as though the author investigated these non-state parks options as thoroughly as he could have, as there are so many left unmentioned. I suppose a different book would be in order then (Best Primitive Campgrounds in Minnesota?).

Title: Good Book
Review: This should help me find good camping spots in Minnesota. I live in Iowa and this gives me options on where to go. I looked on the internet also but this book gave me a better view of campsites and how to get there.

Title: We have different priorities...
Review: We have a different list of priorities when camping and disagree with a number of recommendations in this book; the author seems to prioritize the more primitive camping experience. While tent camping we still use the public facilities eg. showers / restrooms; which are not mentioned at all. Recent experience is these facilities are not being maintained as well as in the past and we had hoped from some insight into maintenance of the facilities, not just the privacy of the remote campsites. We also prioritize quietness of the campground and had very different experiences at campgrounds he gave 3 stars at one state park. Also only included state parks which we can look up online and get mostly all the same information for free.
