Paddy Moran, a former cop from Brooklyn, is a newly licensed attorney in Houston with dreams and aspirations to make it big. He survives early rough bumps and ethical challenges. Then, through networking, he lands two high-profile clients. With his brash moxie and brilliant legal strategy, he gets outstanding outcomes that put him on the success trajectory to the upper echelons of the city's divorce bar. But, faced with difficult choices in high-stakes litigation, will he balance his thirst for recognition and respect with his sense of right and wrong?

The Best People also follows Pilar Galt, a sensuous, intelligent single mother from the Houston barrios, for whom a temp assignment evolves into a relationship with the richest man in town. Her path intersects with Paddy's and eventually converges with his during a pivotal time in her life when she must overcome self-destructive tendencies to survive.

A legal drama and social satire set after Enron and before the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, The Best People portrays a Houston as it is: a glitzy meritocracy populated with larger-than-life characters. It is the landscape where the country-club and café-society sets clash amidst clever legal maneuvering, big law firm politics, a Ponzi scheme, and judicial corruption.

Title: Great Character Development and Credible Plot Twists
Review: The Best People is a captivating read that excels in character development and delivers a thoroughly enjoyable experience. From early into the book, I was immediately engaged, thinking I had a grasp on where the story was headed. However, the book is filled with unexpected plot twists that kept me on the edge of my seat.Despite being a work of fiction, the narrative offered insights into the legal system that felt very real, enhancing my understanding of what might actually occur behind the scenes. The characters, with their unique personalities and quirks, remained consistent and authentic throughout the twists and turns of the plot. One of the highlights of the book was the humor. I found myself laughing out loud on several occasions, which added to the overall enjoyment of the story.I highly recommend The Best People for its engaging plot, well-developed characters, and the blend of suspense and and a bit of humor.

Title: Good read
Review: The plot was consistently intriguing with misdirects and small side excursions and characters that were believable (except one). It gave humor and realism and a piece of life to a side of lawyering most of us wish wasn't so common in today's world. Difficult to put down!

Title: Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous: Behind the Scenes
Review: A bawdy, irreverent peak behind the curtain of Houston high society that will leave you wondering....is this really how the other half lives? My sense is that Marc Grossberg's debut novel is part personal experience and part literary license, but with a heavier dose of the former than the latter. His engaging cast of characters includes classically inept underachievers like the hapless Judge Hector Elizondo, rags-to-riches beauty Pilar Galt-Simons, and uber-rich yet principled social magnate Margot Shear. And then there's the protagonist, Paddy Moran, the tough Brooklyn cop-turned successful divorce (ahem, excuse me...."Family Law") attorney, whose morals we watch slip throughout the story until he becomes, even in his own eyes, irredeemable. Honestly, I kept waiting for a middle-aged meth cook and his stoner millennial accomplice to walk into Paddy's office and ask him to launder their money (IYKYK). All in all a fun, fast read with a satisfying ending. Well done!

Title: Interesting, well written book, unfortunate use of profanity
Review: I found this book via an interview of the author on France 24.I assume the author wrote this book for men hadn't considered a woman might purchase.PROS: The book was well written with excellent characters. The development of the characters from the time we metthem until the end of the book was exceptional. I rarely can say that a book needed no additional editing, it was especially well done.I appreciate how 'MICK' was treated near the end and how it was resolved. So often, that is left hanging.CONS: The language, profanity, just couldn't get around it. Some of the descriptions of the woman I also found unnecessary. It caused me to read over quite a few paragraphs.Because of this, I could never recommend this book to anyone. I would be embarrassed. Were it not for this, I would have quickly given the book 5 stars, instead 3 is the best I can do.I was surprised to read that woman had read drafts, surprised, no stunned.I hope we hear more from this author. That he just writes and loses the 'locker' room language.

Title: Law and Disorder
Review: Marc Grossberg, Author of "The Best People:  A Tale of Trial and Errors has written an intriguing, entertaining, intense, dramatic, witty and captivating story. The Genres for this novel are Satire, Fiction, Legal Fiction, Legal Drama, and Humor. The story takes place in Houston Texas, and the timeline is in the author's present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters and events. The author describes his colorful cast of dramatic characters as complex and complicated.Paddy Moran is a former police officer from Brooklyn, who has just passed the bar and is ready to set up practicing law.  One of the first people that Paddy helps is a fellow police officer who needs a divorce. Before long, word passes out that Paddy is the "guy" you should go to, especially if you need a divorce. I thought Paddy's first time in court, was very witty. Paddy does have some ups and downs but is noticing the " big-time law firms and the way the attorneys dress and act. Is it possible that Paddy is hungry for more at any cost?Pilar Galt comes from humble roots and had lived in the Houston Barios. She is intelligent and beautiful and is having marital problems. Pilar needs a divorce from an abusive husband and has a young child to take care of. Paddy gives Pilar the name of a woman attorney who helps her with her divorce.  While Pilar is working temporary jobs, she meets a very wealthy man. I appreciate that Marc Grossberg writes about the differences in wealth and poverty, power struggles, betrayals, what is legal and what is not legal, and gray areas in the law. Who truly are the best people? Are they the ones who know how to beat the system, or are they the ones that follow the law? Will justice be served? Does justice concern what is right or wrong? There are twists and turns, revenge, rewards, and consequences. The author describes the choices that the characters are offered, and what they choose. This is a witty and thought-provoking story. In many ways, it is a spoof on the political, and judicial system. I would highly recommend this entertaining and intense novel.
