From the original libretto of Andrew Lloyd Webber's world-famous, multi-award-winning musical that has been playing continuously around the world for over 33 years comes this fully authorized graphic novel adaptation.

In 1881 the cast and crew of a new production, Hannibal, are terrorized by the Phantom of the Opera, a mysterious, hideously disfigured man who lives beneath the Paris Opera House. Hopelessly in love and obsessed with one of the chorus singers, the Phantom will stop at nothing to make her the star of the show, even if that means murder.

Title: ALW's Phantom as Comic
Review: I am neither a comic no graphic novel reader. But I am one who loves and appreciates Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera musical and have seen it live in London 3 times. I play the music on my piano and listen to it and the sequel Love Never Dies quite frequently. I am passionate about the story. This "graphic novel" adaptation is faithful to ALW's show and is beautifully told and rendered by the artist and storyteller in this book. The colors are rich and atmospheric perfectly conveying the tension and emotion of the story. The adaptation is faithful to the script of the show and as a whole is a wonderful publication. The differences are perfectly understandable and of no consequence to the story. This book is a must have for Phantom afficianados. I highly recommend this work. It makes a great gift as well as an attractive addition to one's own library.

Title: Excellent adaptation!
Review: This is a very good adaptation of the musical.  It would be gold for someone that has never gotten to see the production live, or to relive the memories for someone who has. It would also be excellent for reading along with the musical soundtrack!  Of course I've seen and listened to it so much it's ingrained in my brain word for word, so it irks me slightly that some songs are cut short and the skillful overlapping of verses in Notes/Prima Donna, etc. is missing.  Mostly I'm nitpicking that it doesn't have the 100% full libretto.  But it's still super close.  As a comic adaptation I can forgive that. There's just a few tiny set and costume variances I can pick out that irk me as a purist, but for the most part, it's very faithful.  Ah, and then the part that irks me the most. *SPOILERS*The graveyard.  Not sure what is up with the ghostly Phantom in white.  That's new.  I dislike all the changes to the graveyard scene.  It's weird since so much else is accurate to the stage production, if slightly abridged, but this scene takes a hard left turn. This I'll blame the 2004 movie for.  Swordfight in the graveyard.  I hate that so much!  Raoul should never physically get the better of Erik.  He should never get that close.  I miss that last sneak back to return the ring after the final lair scene too.  But again, trundicated.  Also, why do they have Meg singing a bunch of the mob lines?  That's weird.  But honestly it's a very good adaptation of the musical.  All in all, it's excellent.

Title: Worth the wait!
Review: I had pre-ordered this book and it took well over a year to be released, but it was well worth the wait. Fantastically drawn and published on quality paper, this is a must have for Phantom's Phans that would love a commemorative memento of Broadway's longest running musical, especially now that it has closed.

Title: bravissima!!!!
Review: Ordered this over two years ago and have been eagerly awaiting it!!!! Just unboxed and so much larger than I expected!!!!! I thought it was like manga size, the book is almost as big (and hardcover) and kind of resembles a DND book size-wise. Getting ready to read but flipping through is very exciting and interesting to see these moments I’ve seen on stage over 30 times frozen and drawn, holding those moments of emotion. Love the text, done very well. This is definitely a quality piece and will be added to my POTO library next to other graphic novel released in recent years based on Leroux (different art style but equally GORGEOUS)

Title: Incredible Art in Faithful Adaptation
Review: I tend to gravitate toward any adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera. I still have not read the original novel The Phantom of the Opera and really, really need to rectify that in 2024.This graphic novel adaptation was done off Andrew Lloyd Webber and Richard Stilgoe’s book for the musical production we all know, love, and have seen multiple times. So, it should be no surprise, that with the opening line, “Sold! Lot 664 then ladies and gentlemen. A wooden pistol and three human skulls from the 1832 production of “Robert Le Diable” by Mayerbeer.”, every feeling, emotion, and tingle that I got while attending the musical resurfaced. The artwork beautifully illustrates all my favorite scenes: the crashing chandelier, the journey across the lake, the rooftop serenade, the Masquerade, and the mask on the throne. I truly felt like I was back in my seat in the Orpheum Theater in San Francisco, ready to witness Franc D’Ambrosio embody my favorite musical villain once again and be immersed in the magic of my favorite Webber production. How I yearn to see it again…but now that it has closed on Broadway, I guess I’ll have to settle for the film starring Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler and playing that powerful soundtrack on repeat.
