How we do it

In our video "How soapstone pans are made" we show the most rudimentary way of making a soapstone pan. Cookstone, on the other hand, uses semi-automatic lathes, which permit a faster, more efficient and standardized production, with a better finish and less effort for the artisan. But the method is still the same since the Middle Ages: a process that requires the skills of a master craftsman.

THE HEALTHIEST COOKING MATERIAL -- NO COATINGS, JUST PURE STONE: No harmful substances are ever released into your pizza. Immune to the corrosive effects of acidic and alkaline foods, soapstone doesn't alter its composition nor change the taste of food.
HEAVY DUTY -- Soapstone is highly heat resistant and can withstand extreme temperatures up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. It will not degrade from heating or flake from reheating. The copper handles provide a firm grip so you can safely lift your pizza pan and easily carry it to the dining table.
EASY TO CLEAN -- Soapstone is nonporous and has a natural non-stick property that prevents food from sticking to it. Even if some stubborn food residue does stick to its surface, it can be easily removed. Just pour warm water on the stone, let it soak for about ten minutes, and any residue will come off by simply wiping it off with a sponge.
IT WILL NEVER CRACK IN YOUR OVEN as cordierite stones often do. Treat it as hard as you want, put it in a preheated or cold oven, wash it by hand or in the dishwasher, soapstone can take it all. Just let it cool down to room temperature before washing, to avoid thermal shocks.
