Unlike most retirement planning and lifestyle books that focus on investing – or at the other end of the spectrum, on how to get the senior discount on a Grand Slam Breakfast at Denny’s – this new book from Jeff Yeager, America’s favorite cheapskate, makes the compelling case that you can have a joyous, worry-free retirement by merely spending smart and focusing on what you truly want and expect out of retirement.
Combining Yeager’s loveable humor and offbeat anecdotes that have garnered him an ever-growing fan base, How to Retire the Cheapskate Way shares with readers hundreds of retirement secrets and tips, including:
·How to Simple-size Your Way to a Better Retirement
·The 20 Secret Cheapskate Principles for Retiring Comfortably on Less...Maybe Even on Social Security Alone
·How to Survive the Medical Maelstrom (without resorting to DIY surgery at home)
·Plus Dozens of Fun Ways to Both Earn a Little Extra Income During Retirement and Painlessly Cut Your Expenses
Yeager, who serves as the official “Savings Expert” for AARP and its 40+ million members, weaves together both everyday practical tips and life-changing financial strategies with the real life stories of frugal retirees as well as people of all ages who are working toward a better, earlier, happier retirement The Cheapskate Way.

Title: Good for anyone to read at any time in life
Review: The key is about how you spend your money rather than investment schemes, as outlined in the first pages of the book. I feel that my father could have written this book because as a man who lived through the 1930s, he used many of the same methods used in this book to live comfortably. He and my mom retired after long careers at a large manufacturing company (so-so wages and small pensions) in their new dream home and traveled all the time. They drove new cars with no car payments. They made wise choices at every level. They taught by living the example. My father was not a savvy investor in the stock market. He directed that money into his own wise choices that worked for him and my mom. They were frugal - but they lived exactly how they wanted to live.As our society gets dictation from "experts" and investment counselors, what you don't hear or read about is using common sense. Don't spend money you don't have. Live below your means. Stay away from using credit. Choose your mate wisely.A good, easy read. Lots of common sense advice, especially for those of us looking for other information your investment adviserprobably won't tell you.

Title: Thus far I've found it very edutaining (Educational and Fun to read)
Review: Thus far I've found it very edutaining (Educational and Fun to read). Many excellent points are made throughout. My only downside is because of my age (64) and looking to retire in 2015, I am looking for ways to enjoy my retirement and the book seems to put more emphasis on what a younger, still looking to grow with a company, type of person should be doing NOW. Unless, I win a lottery or something, I'll never see the $500k retirement fund.

Title: Excellent for Retirement Living
Review: This book is filled with helpful information which I recorded on three typed pages of bullet points. I was surprised at how much good information it gave me since I already consider myself to be a cheapskate. For example, I did't know about the Saver's Credit where the government will match up to 50% of personal savings under certain conditions. Nor was I aware of the AARP Driver's Safety Course which can reduce my car premiums. The book was worth many times over what I paid for it.I also liked the short stories interspersed throughout the book from people who live this very comfortable lifestyle. And the 40 websites I copied will become increasingly invaluable as I move into retirement. I'm hoping to partially retire in Ecuador by 2015. There I can purchase inexpensive handcrafted products that Etsy.com can feature and sell. And I didn't realize there are so many part-time hobby/businesses available to start with little or no investment cost. This book offers a wealth of possibilities. It also tapped into my creative spirit by listing practical opportunities for both saving and earning. Of all the helpful information, Jeff Yeager also stresses the importance of giving thanks for today. The prevailing theme is not so much in getting more stuff you don't need but in being grateful for the many blessings we already have today.

Title: Good Advice Even Though Pretty Basic
Review: Engaging and entertaining book with some good ideas, but might be a little basic for some readers. I read several passages to my husband as we were driving long distance on a trip and he rolled his eyes a few times at some of the tips that Yeager offers up. But I think there's some sound advice like getting rid of your debt before you retire, and renting out your primary residence when going to the southern warmer clients in the winter.

Title: How To Retire With Hope and Happiness!
Review: I just completed this book a few minutes ago and have already ordered copies for two brothers and told several friends it is a must read. Filled with everything you need to know about how to make your retirement a joyful expiernece. Lots of common sense, no nonsense, easy to understand information. Even made Medicare easy to understand. A few jokes along the way. And lots of hope filled stories of people that have made it happen for themselves. If you are looking for Financial Planning Programs--this is not the book for you. More of a belief system. If you are looking for a do it yourself happiness manual to make your retirement years, doable, safe and secure and filled with hope and joy--this is what you are looking for. Of course, some hard work in it along the way--but if you had it in your hands to decide how you will spend your golden years--and you do, you would no doubt want to get busy the minute you finish the final chapter. State funded nursing home or warm, cozy little cottage with garden, pets, loved ones, and options to travel, volunteer, or follow a passion, and all your favorite things? Worth rolling up your sleeves and getting busy for. Thank you Jeff!

Title: It can be done: Spend Less, Enjoy More!
Review: I have learned a lot by reading each of the books from Jeff Yeager - The Ultimate Cheapskate! In this book, I really enjoyed the ideas about how to become selfishly employed and the list of possibilities really got me thinking about what I might do in the next chapter of my life. The list of grocery items that can be had for less than a dollar a pound was also very useful and one that I plan to use in my grocery shopping going forward - cheap and healthy at the same time - really appeals to my practical side. Jeff's humor makes the personal finance nature of the book enjoyable and a much quicker read. Whether you are retired or just dreaming of the day this book will help you get prepared to focus on something you truly can control during any time of your life - your spending. I recommend this book to anyone who wants some good advice on how to enjoy retirement on less money.

Review: So this is the third Jeff Yeager book I have read and I SO wish I knew about it 30 years ago! I have purchased this book for both of my sons, aged 22 and 24 and truly hope they will take Jeff's great advice and be able to retire earlier than I am. I recently bought Jeff Yeagar's trilogy as a thank you gift for a co-worker, whom I know will use the many great ideas. I keep a supply on hand as there is always someone I know that can use the great advice.
