Escorted tours are highly regimented and expensive averaging $300-$500 per person per day excluding airfare. Bob Kaufman knows. For over 30 years he ran National Travel Vacations, Inc. a tour operator who offered escorted tours on contract to travel agents. If you don’t want to be told that you must be on the bus at 8 AM, and that you have only one hour to shop in Ronda, this book is for you. If you don’t want to feel stressed out driving in a strange country, where everyone drives exceptionally fast, this book is for you. If you like waking up when you want, eating when you want and spending as much time as you want on each sight, this book will show you how to do it. Bob Kaufman's “Spain The Best Places to See by Rail” is the essential book you need to plan an in-expensive rail tour of Spain travelling on the newest state-of-the–art ultra-modern high-speed trains.

He even explains how to evaluate and choose each hotel along the way. Title: Excellent Resource
Review: Just returned home from a self guided tour of Spain. This book helped to understand the train system, how to navigate the towns, and prioritize our sightseeing. I prefer local boutique hotels and the hotels the book recommended were clean with a lot of character. One of the highlights of our trip was the tour of Botin Restaurant with dinner in Madrid, as suggested by Bob.My son is planning a trip to Italy for his honeymoon, I just sent him Bob Kaufman “Rail through Italy”.

Title: This Book Changed Our Trip
Review: The author gave us the confidence that we could take a trip to Spain based on trains without using a tour group. He gives straightforward opinions about how to plan your trip and what to do. It is easy to start with his advice and vary it as you wish. The book is easy to read. As a former tour guide, he understands the physical limitations of people and gives you comfort that you can handle the trip without hand-holding. I like group tours, but our trip to Greece without a tour group was great. On our group tour of Italy, the most memorable parts were when we were there before the tour started and when we were on our own. This book is a great help. I would give it 5 stars plus exclamation points, except that it isn't well-organized.

Title: Kaufman captures the best of Spain
Review: Been to Spain a few times and stayed with friends in Denia on the coast. We never saw Barcelona, Madrid and all the historical places. We want to go back next Spring. As seniors, we don't want to take one of those regimented tours and don't want to drive. We stumbled over Bob Kaufman's book on touring Spain by rail. It is something we never thought about. I bought it on Amazon, and this book is exactly what we need to plan a vacation in Spain. Kaufman lays out each day and makes it so easy to see Spain using their high speed trains. Definitely, a must read for those who don't want to drive or be carted around in a bus.

Title: The best guide book for a fantastic trip.
Review: I love to go to Spain again now that I have all the right information where to go and what to do. This is the best guide book for a fabulous trip. Can’t wait to put it in action for a once in a life time trip. The best thing about this book is it gives you all the little details and what to do and not to do to save time and money . Why pay thousands of dollars to be in a guided tour when you can follow the advise of the expert and do it on my own . I read the book on italy and that was fantastic also . Definitely the best guide book .

Title: Someone’s notes
Review: I thought this would be a travel book about places to see by train in Spain. It’s a laundry list of random musings. No organization.And-No Valencia and no towns on the coast of Valencia!Typos everywhere. (Dedicated to lost “soles”)?!Returned.

Title: REINFORCED KEY CONCEPTS THROUGHOUT
Review: We’ve been to Europe a number of times and have always thought that using their rail system would be a great way to see an area. We’ve been wanting to go to Spain without being on a rigid bus tour but didn’t have a clue where to begin. I was thrilled when i found this book written by Bob Kaufman. It’s easy to follow & loved the larger print. Found great tips and who knew Spain has such a a well-connected rail system to get around quickly. Now we have the tools to plan our trip in 2022. I was impressed by the author’s knowledge of the entire country and details.

Title: Be Sure to Pack This one
Review: Loaded with useful information on making the most of a trip to Spain. The conversational style is easy to read and feels like an insider taking your hand and leading you to the best of each city, with minimum hassle and expense. The book helped me prioritize where I want to go and the easiest way to get there. From when to go, how to buy a Euro phone card, and how far in advance to reserve a seat at the best flamenco show in Seville, the author provides much more than rail logistics and routing details. His practical "TIPS" are of special merit. Highly recommended.

Title:
Review: This book is poor. It has a lot about which airports you can fly to from the US but very little detail on trains. It has lots of anecdotes about buying snacks for your journey but told me almost nothing about the train jouneys. The Man in Seat 61 is much better.
