From the Publisher
STOWE
Stowe is a small town. Visit in September when the famous Green Mountains glow red, orange and yellow with the turning leaves, or bring your ski things and learn how to Ski the East.
WHITE SANDS NATIONAL PARK
The dazzling dunes of White Sands fill 275 square miles of southern New Mexico. Deposited on an ancient seabed 250 million years ago, they’re not in fact sand but fine gypsum.
Anywhere else, they would have dissolved and been carried off by rivers; here, there are none.
NORTH SHORE SCENIC DRIVE
The North Shore Scenic Drive (aka Hwy-61) follows the thickly forested Lake Superior shoreline for 150 miles northeast from Duluth to the US-Canadian border, its precipitous cliffs interspersed with pretty little ports, numerous waterfalls and picture-postcard picnic sites.
GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK
The peaks of Grand Teton National Park are a magnificent spectacle, sheer-faced cliffs rising abruptly some 7000ft above the valley floor.
A string of gem-like lakes is set tight at the foot of the mountains; the park also encompasses the broad, sagebrush-covered Jackson Hole river basin, broken by the gently winding Snake River and home to elk, bison and moose.
KAUAI
The Hawaiian island of Kauai, the oldest of the archipelago, is arrestingly beautiful. Known as the “Garden Isle” and still largely undeveloped, Kauai offers travellers breathtaking back-to-nature experiences in pristine tropical surrounds.
MANHATTAN
Think New York City and it is Manhattan’s unrivalled skyline and busy streets that spring to mind.
The city’s most densely populated borough stretches from Battery Park through the ever-evolving neighbourhoods of Lower Manhattan, the iconic sights of Midtown and north to historic Harlem and Upper Manhattan.
