Updated July, 2024! Thinking of retiring in Florida? Despite hurricanes and sinkholes, the state is still popular with retirees, thanks to its favorable tax structure, warm weather and beautiful beaches. Not all Florida towns, however, are created equal.

Here we have 39 Florida towns worth consideration when it comes to retirement. Some are well-known. Others are off the national radar. The towns with lower costs are not fancy places, but they are safe and comfortable. The upscale towns have amenities and a quality of life that are worth the higher prices. Costs are primarily determined by housing prices.

In each town, we look at population, median home price, median household income, percentage of people age 45 or better, medical facilities, transportation, climate, political leanings and more. And because no place is perfect, we also note each town’s drawbacks. Reviews are short and to the point for quick reading.

Title: Yes buy this, it has good information for Seasonal snowbird or Relocating
Review: Worth picking this up, provides a wealth of information. Yes I supposeyou could google to get all this info, but I value my time and for$3.99 kindle version I got my moneys worth. Writer givesa good overview of each location. Includes stats for temps throughseasons, rainfall, % whose age 45 over in community, growth overpast decade, Median house and rent prices, amenities area offers.Notes added for unusual characteristics ie, Mt Trashmore a landfilllocated near town. HIghly recommend if considering a move orseasonal stay in Florida.

Title: Check the Web, save yourself some money.
Review: I thought this book was really sparse with info, just a touch on an area with no real personal info thrown in. I could have got most of the info off the Web. And a few of the reviewers said the highlighted places that were more up scale, I agree. Look elsewhere for a book on Florida if you are thinking of retiring in that state.

Title: a reference collection of data, not a readable book
Review: This book didn't give me much of a feel or "flavor" or what each town is like. In fact, I doubt the author has even been to all these towns. It is just a bland reference summary of 35-40 towns re: short description of 5-10 sentences, population, mean age, cost of living, median home price, climate, local hospital info, public transit, crime rate, library, political leanings, other notes (1 sentence). Most data compared to national averages.

Title: Useful information in a concise little book.
Review: This book breaks down the towns by affluence (those with a cost of living above the national average, and those below). It offers consistent information about each town, such as whether there's an accredited hospital, a library and public transit (and more), and crime rates, political leanings, and such, and even presents any drawbacks (e.g. heavy traffic during annual events) alongside the positives. Sure, one could gather by researching oneself - but Ms. Kelley has already done all the leg work, and it's done well. I found it very helpful.

Review: Some good ideas and information but Florida, being a big attraction to retirees and tourists, also attracts criminals. There are no crime stats in this book and this is not helpful.
