Answering all of the key questions about the kindergarten experience, this compact guide will give parents the confidence to be the most effective, up-to-speed advocates as their child enters formal education.

"Which school should I choose, or should I home-school?"
"How can I prepare my child for kindergarten?"
"How can I work with teachers?"
"What services and support will my child need?"
"What is an Individualized Education Program (IEP)?"

In a warm, parent-to-parent style, Margaret Oliver explains the essentials of how the educational system is structured, how special education laws are applied, and what current educational trends mean for individual children. She also gives strategies to overcome sensory, behavioral, social, emotional and communication difficulties.

Title: Get This Book!
Review: This book is a wonderful piece of work. I have been blessed to have known Margaret for many years and have had the opportunity to watch her put her knowledge to work and reading this book was a joy and in my minds eye reflecting over the years just what a treasure she is. I recommend this book for anyone with school age ASD children. I know it will be of great use. I bought a copy for one of my clients who has an ASD child and she was delighted to get it.

Title: Immediately Helpful!
Review: As a single parent of a child with ASD, I was feeling overwhelmed and uncertain of what to expect this fall when my son is scheduled to enter the public education system. Then, a dear friend recommended "Kindergarten and ASD" to me. This book is a lifesaver! It has given me a clear path forward to best ensure that my son receives the education which he needs and deserves. I've already begun to put the practical advice this book offers to good use, and I'm sure I'll refer to it regularly.

Title: They will make far better choices and will be equipped to advocate for him
Review: I have read a number of books and articles about autism and this one I have found to be the most practical and valuable. I was able to use ideas to help my autistic grandson with social skills right away. Also, he is going into kindergarten this fall so the book was incredibly timely in preparing his parents. They will make far better choices and will be equipped to advocate for him. I may be providing copies of this book for his teachers as well.

Title: This is a wonderful book. My professor recommend it for Kindergarten teachers
Review: This is a wonderful book. My professor recommend it for Kindergarten teachers, but I believe that parents of a child with ASD should read this. It helps you understand what to do when your child is diagnosed.

Title: A book for parents by a very experienced and knowledgeable parent
Review: I have known Maggie Oliver personally for over 15 years. She is a kind, caring, considerate and compassionate mother of a child with ASD, and a knowledgeable and experienced advocate for children with ASD. She is just the sort of person whose advice you would seek while dealing with the very trying experience of raising a child with ASD. While you as a parent can and ought to read a variety of material on ASD, you can get up to speed very quickly with this relatively slim volume by one who deeply understands and empathizes with you.I wish I had this book myself when I was raising my child--I procured many books on the subject, but their intimidating size and contents ensured than many of them remained unread on my bookshelf. Kindergarten and ASD is friendly and easy to read; and yet it is packed with essential information to guide you through the very stressful and trying process of getting a positive educational experience for your Kindergartener.Get this book first--it will help you get going. The more detailed readings listed at the end of the book can follow, as and when you need more in depth information. Unfortunately, Amazon limits me to giving this book only 5 stars.
