Title: Ideal Bean Masher
Review: I understand Good Cook calls this a "Potato Masher" and I suppose it's possible to use it for that purpose. Silly me, I call it a "Bean Masher" because I think it's the ideal tool for turning whole beans into creamy, silky refried beans. I use Mark Bittman's recipe from How To Cook Everything (book link below) with my own seasonings because it produces perfect refried beans. The slightly curved edge of the Good Cook Masher lets me mash all around the perimeter of a skillet, and the high temp plastic holds up well to medium heat in the skillet. It also sports a rounded edge for use in a saucepan, should you be inclined to try your hand at potatoes. The metal frame makes it nice and sturdy, allowing me the freedom to mash with impunity, not worrying about it coming apart. It also cleans very easily. At just over $5, it's a steal. Here's the recipe I use for Frijoles Refritos:2 cups cooked pinto beans (or 1 16 oz. can*), plus some of the cooking liquid (reserved)4 Tablespoons butter or bacon fatCumin, chili powder and salt to tasteMelt butter (or bacon fat if you have it) over medium heat in a large nonstick skillet. Add beans and mash away, until your desired consistency is reached. If the beans are too dry, add some of the reserved liquid. Season to taste. Beans should be silky and creamy. I like to leave some beans whole for texture.* Fast & Easy version - use Bush's Best Chili Beans (Pinto Beans) in Mild Chili Sauce. Reserve liquid. Add only ¼-½ Teaspoon Cumin to season.I've tried using Vegetable oils like Canola, Peanut and Olive to make this a healthier recipe. The beans aren't exactly ruined, but are definitely inferior, lacking the richness and silky quality that is a hallmark of proper refried beans, something only imparted by butter or lard. Even using half butter, half oil makes a noticeable difference that is not worth it to me. Respect your Frijoles, use bacon fat or butter. How To Cook Everything: http://smile.amazon.com/Cook-Everything-Completely-Revised-Anniversary/dp/0764578650/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1431914360&sr=1-1&keywords=how+to+cook+everythingBush's Mild Chili Beans: http://smile.amazon.com/Bushs-Chili-Beans-Mild-Sauce/dp/B000VC9QTS/ref=sr_1_2?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1431914412&sr=1-2&keywords=bush%27s+chili+beans

Title: USEFUL AND GOOD QUALITY
Review: This masher is exactly what I have been looking for. My old metal masher can be used for a number of things, but not on a non-stick skillet. This one can. It is perfect for making refried beans and does not damage the non-stick surface of my new skillet. Prep time is reduced dramatically for the beans, not having to transfer them to mash them in a bowl and then return to the skillet. That was boring and messy. This masher is uniquely designed with a slight curve in the head that makes the mashing job, be it beans, potatoes or whatever, go much easier than with the flat mashers. That curve also seems to eliminate the hand and wrist cramps I've always had with mashers. It's got a nice grip that makes your work go fast. It is nylon, so it's strong. The connections seem to be very secure from the handle. The pattern of the masher head, being long vertical openings instead of little squares, makes it a breeze to clean. I looked all over Amazon for a masher I would really like. This is it.

Title: Mashes beans like a boss!
Review: I bought this thing for mashing pinto beans. I havenât tried it with potatoes nor am I going to. It mashes pinto beans like a boss and it shortens a lengthy process into a few seconds. Iâm happy with the purchase. In addition to that, the product description doesnât say if it has BPA in it, so I went to their website and emailed them. I got a quick reply within a few hours letting me know that 1. It does NOT have BPA and 2. BPA is a problem when microwaving, so it wouldnât be a problem even if it did have BPA. Good product. Good and fast communication from the manufacturer. Itâs good all around. Iâll be checking out this companyâs offerings for my next kitchen purchase. Thanks.

Title: Mashes reasonably well - know the trade-off
Review: Like others, I bought this for our non-stick pans. I've used metal mashers before for various foods and certainly grew to prefer their sturdy and efficient construction. I knew that there would be a trade-off for employing a non-stick pan safe masher when I bought it, but I concluded that as long as I didn't have to stop too frequently to clean it, it would still be a serviceable product. When I used it to cook mashed potatoes the very first night after receiving it the mail, I thought the holes might be a little small. As expected, after several "mashes", potatoes started to stick to the holes. However, I just scraped off the excess and started again - no need for water, the back of a fork did the trick. When finished, I didn't really didn't notice an extraordinary increase in clearing the holes compared to metal ones I've used, and my pans were safe to boot.Pros:- nicely constructed material- good weight in the hand- protected my non-stick pansCons:- not the most efficient tool out there. Not really a "con" per se, because it is designed to be safe for non-stick pans, so I am happy with the slight trade-off

Title: Perfect For Non Stick Pots
Review: We've used this many times when cooking potatoes in our non-stick pots. It's held up well & works just like the metal one we have, but is, of course, non-scratch! The curved contour works amazingly - something I was unsure of at first.Highly recommend if you like to cook mashed potatoes in a non-stick pot!

Title: Very practical masher
Review: This masher works well. It is easy to clean but one of the most unique and best features is that the masher part folds up so it is not hard to store in that tool drawer. Seems like small feature but I have a lot of tools and usually the masher has to go somewhere else because it takes up too much room...not this one!

Title: Sturdy and durable
Review: Sturdy construction, great value for the price, but the material the masher is made out of is not non-stick, so washing it is not very easy. I guess they intended that for a better grip when mashing, but still not worthy of 5 stars.
