"Simply charming" – The Sun
Roy is a lion and a sound catcher. He catches the sounds of the city and makes them into music, trying to avoid the annoying attentions of his neighbor, Jemmy. Feeling like his music isn’t good enough, Roy goes on a journey to find the best sound in the world for inspiration. He hears the pitter-patter of the rain in the forest, the wind whistling through the desert, and the hustle and bustle of the souk at sunrise, but none of it helps—he can’t decide which is the best sound. Just as he’s about to give up, he hears a familiar voice . . . can Jemmy teach him that perhaps there are lots of beautiful sounds, not just one, and that for Jemmy, Roy’s music is the best of all? This gorgeous debut picture book is a heart-warming tribute to the power of friendship.

The Best Sound in the World
Roy was a little lion who lived in the big city. His favorite thing was music.
“To be a famous musician,” thought Roy, “first I need to find beautiful sounds.”
So Roy spent hours listening for different noises and putting them in little bottles.
But the more he searched, the more confused he felt. Which was the most beautiful sound?
So he decided to go home.
When Roy got home everything was the same. He still hadn’t found the most beautiful sound in the world, and he was very sad.
And thinking of his friend, Roy began to play.
Sometimes, Roy hears something that makes him want to play his violin. Jemmy is always there, dancing, clapping, and singing along.
And it might not be the most beautiful, but for Roy it is the best sound in the world.

Title: What WAS the best sound in the world?!
Review: While looking at the first 2 or 3 breezy, inviting illustrations in this book, I'm reminded of the studio apartments with floor to ceiling windows, that I pass by, on the LIRR. What do their tenants do, I idly wonder.Well if one tenant is a lion named Roy, they have a sense of beauty and wonder and.. a violin..Initially I was enthralled by the embossed illustrated cover, running my fingers over it for a sensory delight. Each colorful illustration in the book evokes emotions, and action! Curtains waving in the city breeze, monkeys jumping thru the jungle - lively action on each page.A love of music.. A noisy but well meaning friend, Jemmy ... The sounds of the city.... Happy people in humble homes while the city behind them shines grows and glows. The reader can easily wonder what these people are talking about! There's so much action evoked in these illustrations, some are almost monochromatic, others convey color, and adventure -- emotion, action and...music!When Roy leaves his violin behind and sets off alone to find "the most beautiful sound in the world" we are treated to cute vignettes with action and emotion, even dancing! One can almost hear the musical notes that Roy finds in his travels. But .. Roy returns home unhappy! Until he realizes that friends, even friends who sometimes disagree- can make the sweetest music together.Reading this sweet allegorical "adventure" book to a child can easily turn into a pleasant unrehearsed "musical".Even an adult like me, can find so much to happily dwell on in this beautiful book!

Title: Cute art, good story!
Review: My children liked this book so much that they asked me to read it to them every night. I think I know why, too. They tell me that the pictures look like they're always moving and I think they're right! If you really look at each page it appears not as a static image but rather always about to jump off the page. The character's emotions are very well presented so the reader (and listener) can feel the same emotions as they are. Best of all, this book combines some of my favorite subjects when it comes to working with children, music, and friendship!A beautiful book that both readers and listeners will enjoy. Also, the cover is so nice that you want this book facing out. It's too nice to only show the spine! =)5 stars!

Title: My son loves this book
Review: This is a great book to start to read to your toddler. My son really loves this book and asks us to read it to him atleast twice a day now. This book has very colorful and friendly characters and artwork. Each page has short lines to read that keep kids interested. The morals of the book teaches friendship and happiness in simple things.Overall it takes around 5 minutes to read this book which is just enough time to keep kids interested and happy. We have read it to him around 30 times already and he likes it; even my baby girl (1y/o) loves it as she likes to look at the colors and the characters. If you are looking for a nice book to read to your kids every day; this is a good place to start. If this review helped you at all; please mark it helpful! Title: Librarian Review - Sweet - Good Message
Review: My librarian wife, working with Elementary Kids for about 20 years is the source of this review. I did read the book, and I ended up confirming one of her comments without knowing I was doing so. She has read it in the library to a few groups during reading time. She has found that the older groups, 3rd and 4th grade pick up on the message in the story quite quickly while the younger ones needed to be drawn into it and lead through it a bit. The graphics are fun and colorful and give the young reader a lot to look at and here is where this reader and the younger ones miss it. I did NOT pick up on the fact that the "Lemur" was WITH the Lion throughout the book. When you read it, you will see this little tidbit is critical. The young readers did not follow that either, but the older kids did almost without fail! Interesting. In any case the librarian says the book is a great book for teaching kids more than one concept and she is recommending it to teachers. So I guess that means that I recommend it to you, if you want books that teach. Many parents do.

Title: Beautifully Illustrated With an Enduring Message of Friendship
Review: This large book draws you in immediately when you feel the embossed cover and see the picture of a lion with a tiny violin and a lemur dancing next to him on the rooftop of a big city. Each 2-page spread is beautifully illustrated with scenes from Roy's apartment and the city around them. Roy is trying to find the most beautiful sounds in the world, and takes off on a journey to learn where those sounds might be. On my first reading I didn't notice that the tiny lemur is also discreetly drawn in on each page and accompanies Roy on his journey, though Roy is not aware that he is there. The lemur, which had annoyed Roy earlier in the book, comes to be his best friend when he brings his beloved lost violin back to him. Because of the simple message and wonderful artwork this is sure to be a favorite among children in the 4-8 age bracket.

Title: Love Lions
Review: My son (almost 3) was excited to read this book (he loves new books and loves lions) but he quickly lost interest. I enjoyed the art style but the book itself is very busy and a bit all over the place so I think he had a bit of a hard time following along, especially as he didnât find it terribly interesting to begin with. The book has a good message but I couldnât get over how much I disliked the main character as he was kind of a jerk to his friend. The book itself is quality. I love the rough textured feel of the cover and the pages.Maybe my son will grow into it someday
