Title: Good, but not great
Review: I smoke a ton of pork butts (probably ten a year, which feels like a lot for home). Up until now I've always used the "bear claw" style shredders to pull the meat. They look like brass knuckles mixed with Wolverine's claws from X-Men.Frankly, I never had a problem with the old bear claws. It takes some time, but good barbecue is really all about time and pulling the meat is the exciting conclusion of the whole "low and slow" process. Anyway, that's my bias. For me this is one of those "if it ain't broke don't fix it" situations. But I'm also a gadget geek and felt like giving these a try.My first impression was, "Hmmm. I really don't think my cordless drill should be anywhere near my kitchen unless I'm fixing the cabinets." My cordless drill has sawdust and dust bunnies on it and it isn't at all sanitary. It really doesn't belong near food. Conversely, once my pork butts have cooled enough to cool they've become greasy messy things and I really don't want that pork fat anywhere near my drill motor. So my compromise was to poke a hole in a plastic bag so that only the chuck was exposed. This worked OK, but it was pretty cumbersome.Once I was done, the plastic bag was pretty messy, which reinforced my decision to protect the drill motor. This bucket isn't big enough to shred an entire butt, but the blade is too destructive to use this in a good mixing bowl and it will eviscerate a foil pan faster than it pulls the meat.It worked OK once I figured out to divide the butts into smaller sections, but I'm still not really sold. The texture of this pulled pork was more granular and small than I prefer. And compared to my bear claws I think I prefer the old method of doing it by hand.Cleanup wasn't too bad since the blade and bucket both went into the dishwasher, but my claws are dishwasher safe too and this didn't save me any cleanup time. Plus the setup time of cleaning my drill chuck and bagging the drill motor made this take more setup time.I think the only way this would really make any sense would be for a commercial kitchen where you smoked and pulled multiple butts a day. Even then though, I'm not sure the final product would be satisfying.Pro Tip: Regardless of your method for shredding your butts, add lots more rub to the meat as you pull it so that it's all well seasoned. No matter how good your bark is, the seasoning will never penetrate beyond that first outer bite, so season the inside too for best results.

Title: Great for pulled pork.
Review: I do a lot of Boston butt at our cabin and hate shredding the pork. A food processor makes it too mushy and chopping it takes a lot of time. This tool works great to shred a butt if it is cooked properly. I was a little disappointed with the bucket though it's awful light duty and a bigger stainless steel pot works much better. The tool itself is well made and easy to clean and if you smoke a lot of barbecue like I do I highly recommend it.Update: okay I have used this a couple times and the thing works awesome! Wish I would have gotten it a long time ago. Like I said the bucket is too small but the shredder is well worth the price of the product.
