Post-apocalyptic fiction by Sean Liscom
Jason Sterling had a simple life by all accounts. He had worked the same job his entire adult life, he had never married, and he had no children. He was used to doing things on his own. His comfortable life was shaken to the core the day he learned of his fathers death. It was a mysterious meeting that set life-altering events in motion, and the allure of a new life was too great to walk away from. When an electromagnetic pulse brings the modern world to its knees, Jason's choice proves to be the right one.

Title: Resurrected my love of reading!
Review: Amazon has already provided you with an excellent synopsis of what the story is about and other comments from readers who have posted a review have filled in even more details, so I'm not going to bother going over ground that has already been covered. Instead I'm going to give you my opinion of the book from a reader's perspective and explain why I have given this book a 5-star rating.I don't understand why this wonderful story got any negative reviews. I noticed a couple of comments that claimed the story was unbelievable or far-fetched. My response to that is.... What did you expect? This is science fiction/fantasy genre, it's supposed to be a little bit far-fetched is it not? That said, let me give you MY opinion.I think this is a wonderful story. I was hooked from the moment I started reading. I grew up with a book in my hand. My mom used to scold me for bringing a book to the dinner table, I took a book to the bathroom with me when I took a bath, I read on the bus on the way to school, I read under the covers at night when I was supposed to be sleeping, I read every chance I got. That love of reading followed me into adulthood and I was rarely found without a book in my hand. But because of extenuating family circumstances over the past 4 years I have not been able to read due to lack of time and worry over the health of a family member. However, reading this story has rekindled my love of books and resurrected my interest in reading. If you are an avid reader like I am you know very quickly when you start reading a book if you are going to like it or not. If the author has not captured my interest by the end of the first chapter, chances are good that I might not even finish it. I knew within the first few pages that I was going to enjoy reading this book. Sean Liscom is a masterful storyteller, and contrary to some dissenting opinions I think he did a brilliant job providing background information and explanations for how and why various things happened throughout the story. The characters are engaging and believable, and you find yourself emotionally invested in them very quickly. One of the things I like best is that the characters in the story are not perfect, they have flaws. The story is entertaining and action-packed, and I found myself sitting on the edge of my chair during some of the more dramatic scenes in the book. Liscom's writing style is fluid and enjoyable & easy to read. Paired with the exciting tale he tells, well, don't be surprised if you look at the clock and discover that somehow you've lost track of time and read the whole night through!

Title: Unexpected Pleasure
Review: You never know what to expect when reading an apocalyptic thriller. This book was excellent in that it had engaging characters, good and realistic plotline, and just some good old ordinary heroes. It was fun and engaging for me as a reader and caused some self examination. It's hard to think of the lawlessness that would rear its ugly head in desperate times. The main recurring theme was history repeats itself and the next disaster is around the corner, am I prepared? I read this post Covid and I remember the empty store shelves! This a recommended read in my opinion.

Title: Not Your Stereotypical Post Apoc Storyline - Great Read!
Review: Sean Liscom as the author of "The Ranch Book 1" and "The Ranch Book 2" has done an outstanding job hammering out a post apocalyptic fiction. The plot unfolds after America suffers from the devastating effects of both an EMP and nuclear carnage over many of its major cities. The setting is placed in real time as the thin veneer of civilization is quickly peeled away revealing the violence of a societal collapse. Life becomes a hellish nightmare of death and destruction for those unprepared for this New World run amok with lawlessness. The deceased Jack Sterling, a man of vision, foresight and ultimately a prepper, built a ranch for such a possible event in Nevada. Ordinary people are brought together in this extraordinary time under the leadership of Jack Sterling's son, Jason, within the confines of this small fortress. Outside their walls this small group of chosen patriots attempt to instill justice to the surrounding communities beaten and battered by mass starvation, disease and violence. Here is where the author departs from the usual norm found in many post apoc works by re-introducing the mysterious, departed Jack Sterling and his covert background of murder, espionage and money laundering. This is not your stereotypical story of preppers fighting endless, running gun battles but one accompanied with mystery and intrigue. The storyline is well crafted, action packed, suspenseful and naturally fast paced. Our author is a great storyteller and keeps your interest peaked as you weave through the pages of his two fictional post apocalyptic novels. Like all good books the ending becomes surprising! The one downside of Book 2 are the loose ends leaving us readers dangling. But, then again, there is Book 3 on the horizon making it a trilogy. As an update "The Ranch Book 3" will be released within the coming weeks.

Title: An intriguing story start to finishâ¦where is your safe place?
Review: This book made you thinkâ¦think about what you should be concerned about in the event of a monumental event. Plus the story is fast-paced, has a love interest, and the main character has a strong morale compass.

Title: Always be prepared
Review: It works for the Boy Scouts. Jason is living a life of austerity going thru the motions. Then he received a visit from a mysterious man with a request from his absentee father. Continue with his current life or join a group to contribute to society.

Review: Pretty sad at the end of book one the first time I read it, thought it was a one off. Tears and sadness followed me through there journey. Years later I just happened to come across what I thought was book one again online only to get excited to find out it was book two and then 3-5, would be happy to know there were other books out there. You know itâs a good read if you keep going back and RE-reading it.
