Title: Why this one?
Review: For years I had wanted to need one of those way cool induction cook tops. Now finally, there was a need, but when I read the 1s and 2s reviews, this was the no-brainer choice for me. The complaints were that the induction cook tops only have @ 3.5" heating surface, and I needed to be able to cook my 2 eggs over easy just right. This has over 5" of heat coil, tried and true technology, and does the job nicely. Plus, the price is incredible, and it heats and cools quickly. The thing they conveniently forget to tell you about the induction cook top is that as the pot heats on it, the pot heats the glass surface as well, so it becomes very hot. My experience is that glass holds its heat. When is someone likely to be accidentally burned? Before putting on the pot or after taking it off? One need only remember to turn on the heat after putting on the pot in order to be adequately safe. The knob turns easily, so one must get into the habit of checking it is off before plugging the unit in.

Title: pretty good, meets our need
Review: when we moved into a basement apartment with only a wet bar (tiny sink and mini fridge), this was a must so we could still make my husband's oatmeal in the morning. the 1000w burner does the job perfectly! it cools down quick after use and stows away in small places if needed. the temp control doesnt have numbers or "hi/lo", but it's pretty no-nonsense.

Title: A little more power would be nice...
Review: I purchased this to try boiling about 20 gallons of maple sap into syrup in a purely hobbyist endeavor. (This boiling had to be done outside. You can't boil that much water in your house without drywall slumping off your walls or ceiling!)This was probably not what the manufacturer had in mind... still, I wanted to give it a try after spending a ridiculous amount of money on propane to do the same thing last year.I really appreciated the metal construction. It held up well under a pot filled with 1.5 gallons of sap (about 13 pounds including the pot). I'm sure it could have held more weight than that without a problem. It heated up very quickly and stayed hot during an average 4 hour boiling session.1200 watts is enough to boil a pot of sap (which starts out 98% water) but not boil it away very quickly. I can get a 1500 watt space heater, and my wife owns a 1875 watt hair dryer. Why can't I find a hot plate with more power than 1200 watts? It eventually took about 30 hours to turn 19 gallons of sap into steam. I thought I might very well kill this thing before I was done, but it still works (and looks!) like new.

Title: So thankful
Review: This year has been tough as my brother had hip replacement surgery, unrelated - became paralyzed and is now in a wheelchair. Having independence is CRITICAL for someone paralyzed! Kitchens are not designed for a person in a wheelchair which makes everyday tasks much more complex. My brother - thankfully- lives with my mother (who needs someone there with her) but lives independently in a separate level of the house. He wanted to expand his culinary skills beyond microwave, air fryer and griddle. THIS has provided a SIMPLE JOY! He now can cook foods he had previously missed. The burner is portable, appears to have solid weight, easy to use and easy to store. Very glad we made the purchase - even if it is for old fashion Mac and Cheese.

Title: If you want dependability, don’t buy this.
Review: If you have to use this daily, don’t bother. If you want dependability, don’t count on this one. This is my only stove so I must use it daily. It’s not consistent as far as temperature. It’s a cheap coil that works when it feels like it. I’ve tried several and none of them work consistently. It has a warranty if you feel like paying to mail it back. You’ll pay almost as much as you paid to buy it if you send it back.Cleaning it is next to impossible. And if anything ever spills over, you can’t clean it at all, either under the coil or on the outside. I try to keep things clean but this one just won’t work.Another con is that when you plug it in, the power light goes on. That may sound nice but you can’t tell whether the unit is actually on/heating or just plugged in. In other words, if the unit is off but plugged in, the light stays on. It would be much better to have a light go on when you actually turn the unit on.I’ll be looking for something better that will last more than a few months. I would say you get what you pay for but with this, you don’t. It wouldn’t be worth five dollars at a thrift store.

Title: It’s okay
Review: It’s was okay but you couldn’t really control the heat it was on or off and you can’t lift the element to clean under it. It eventually broke at the element solder to the wires and I just didn’t bother the resolver it

Title: Simple, Easy & Works Great!
Review: The Proctor Silex Electric Single Burner Cooktop is as easy as it gets, turn the knob and it gets hot. I bought this for my mom because she couldn't find a non-stick pan that worked as well with her new glass ceramic cooktop like her old electric burner cooktop. She told me she loves this portable burner cooktop because she can use her old non-stick pans to make her omelets and crepes just like she used to. Not to mention, this cooktop is much easier to clean then her ceramic glass cooktop which she must use a special cleaner. A month ago we stayed a few days in a hospital hotel kitchenette suite… microwave, refrigerator/freezer, coffee maker, toaster and etc., all that was missing was a cooktop, so we brought ours. It made the hospital stay much less stressful and more peaceful because no one had to run out to get food for every meal because we could prepare it ourselves and the cleanup was a snap. In conclusion, this is a great solution for someone like my mom who is used to the old fashioned way of cooking but it is also wonderful for on the go as well.

Title: Excellent
Review: As a single senior, I do almost all my cooking on this unit. It seems to use little power, heats up quickly and has great temp control. If I EVER wear mine out, I hope Proctor Silex is still making this model!

Review: After we received our Proctor Silex Electric Single Burner Cooktop from UPS, my wife took one look at it and then put it back into the box. It was not what she envisioned at all. For starters, she thought she would be getting something a little bigger; something with more coil. Then, there was the price. In her mind, it was way too pricey for what she was paying for. This led her to shop around for something more ideal and eventually she found it, at Canadian Tire.

Customers say

Customers like the size of the countertop burner. They mention it's small enough to easily store away and works great when camping. Customers also appreciate its ease of use. However, some customers have reported that the sturdiness is not good. Opinions are mixed on the heat up, functionality, value for money, boil time, and ease of cleaning.
