Want to make more money playing poker? Only 10% of poker players are profitable, but the solution is easier than you think. One of the most important and overlooked aspects of the game is your range. This pertains to what hands you will and will not play. Of course, everyone will play AA, KK, QQ, and AK, but how far should that range stretch?
Through trial and error, I have tested range theories for years. It didn't take long to find one that led to a very high winning percentage, but the wins weren't big and I wasn't getting a lot of action. This is NOT a negative if you play often and want small yet consistent wins. However, if you want to maximize your profits, then applying the adjustments I have made to this range should greatly increase your odds of long-term success.
In this book, I don't just describe the perfect range. That would be boring. I'm not into boring. Instead, I tested the perfect range in 23 live cash games and three live tournaments. In order to add some flavor, I played in poker rooms in Florida, North Carolina, Atlantic City, West Virginia, and Connecticut. I was undercover in every instance. I also included my on-the-felt and off-the-felt misadventures, which I seem to have a knack for.
Everything written in this book happened. I gave all characters I came across nicknames, but if you play poker in any of the states (or city) mentioned above, then it's possible that you will hear about someone you know, or maybe even yourself. My first poker strategy book, Poker Notes, has received excellent feedback and sells consistently. I'm glad to hear it's making a difference for people. I think The Perfect Range is even more valuable! If you stick to this strategy without veering off course, it should lead to greatly improved results on the felt, especially if combined with the strategies covered in Poker Notes and Poker Blog.

Review: I First read Tyler Nals's Poker Notes and liked it so much I was eager to start on the perfect range and I wasn't disapointed.Nals seems to have a unique way of both educating you and entertaining you at the same time. The subject matter is an easy to understand and logical continuation of poker notes, making it enjoyable to read at the same time.

Title: SPATS Range is very good, this book is anecdotal & easy to read!
Review: Tyler writes with avery interesting style. His anecdotal stories keep the listener listening but they don't necessarily help you develop your poker skills but make the book very intriguing. The poker skill development comes in his explanation of SPATS, a very good hand range philosophy. Since I drive for a living I got the audible version and paid $14.95, less than a hand of poker. As spats helps improve my game as an addition to my own hand ranges which I gained through studying hand charts then it will pay for itself in one poker hand. In this anecdotal book Tyler tells of his 23 sessions he played in poker using spats and how he achieved success using spats. It was an enjoyable listen and I would recommend it for any beginner or novice or anyone not winning at poker!

Title: THIS BOOK IS PURE TRASH! I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!
Review: I have never written a book review, but after reading this trash, I felt absolutely compelled to try to do my part to decrease this bookâs sales. This is, without exception, the worst book Iâve ever read...of any kind (and my daughter wrote a book in kindergarten).First, it is marketed as a poker strategy book. This is an outrageous claim. The author spends the entire book trying to discover the elusive âPerfect Rangeâ of Texas NLHE starting hands. He seeks out to prove that his brand new, revolutionary and proprietary poker system (âSPATSâ), is a fool-proof system to beat cash games. (SPATS - is a ridiculously elaborate acronym for a system, regardless of circumstance or table type, to always and only play the following starting hands: Suited Connectors, Pocket Pairs, Ace-X suited, 2 Ten or better Broadway cards and Suited one-gappers).So, to save any potential reader their hard earned time and money Iâll sum up a couple hundred pages with the following well-established hand requirements for an opening range (if you want to follow such a hard and fast rule in the 1st place - which is NOT a good idea). Here it is...ONLY ENTER POTS WITH STARTING HANDS IN THE TOP 30% OF YOUR RANGE!!!Hereâs a link to hand ranges....And if anyone would want to waste their time reading hundreds of pages to get what was just summed up in 1 sentence, there are other warnings to heed. The book is littered with HORRIBLE ideas and advice. The author claims to be a winning player but is insanely basic and often contradictory. Examples from the book:â He says he has an edge over competition and boasts a winning record over 23 sessions, BUT, no matter how good a game might be, he NEVER re-buys. So dumb.â He often puts players on exact holdings with almost no information. In one example he bets and gets raised pre-flop and IMMEDIATELY puts his opponent on pocket aces and only pocket aces.â He wonât call with AK in tournaments pre-flop if he has more chips than his opponent.â He hates AJ and never plays it.â He fails to employ the simplest poker strategies like re-jamming to isolate (in one example he calls a jam with JJ in the SB and lets the BB call behind him and thinks he was unlucky to lose to a run-out of what was an inferior starting hand)â He makes the broad, sweeping and just plain stupid claim that all young players who wear hoodies, know poker lingo and handle their chips well, are BAD players. Yep - they are all fronting and over-compensating for having no skill. Itâs the âquiet ones you have to watchâ he claims.-No matter what the table type, dynamic, flow or action at a table, he NEVER changes gears. For instance, he wonât ever, ever, under any circumstance, play the starting hands J8s or Q9s or K9s.â He focuses on the dumbest details AS HIS PRIMARY STRATEGY in $200 buy-in 1-2 games like what people are wearing, throw-away comments and conversations he overhears. Great as ancillary info. but in no way should these details ever be the dominant information used for primary decision making in a hand.â He targets specific people at the table based on this info, and avoids others, forgetting entirely about the actual flow of the game. There are so many other horrible and contradictory examples of bad advice and strategy along the way. As a strategy book, they donât come worse than this.As a travelogue, the book also fails miserably. The author is just a really unlikable dude. He sits in $1-2 cash games around Florida, and because he wants to be a mystery to other players, makes up dumb lies about himself. As if thatâs the key to winning. He belittles other players obviously less fortunate than he (âToothless Guyâ) with condescending nicknames (wholly unoriginal and unfunny by the way), and uses stupid tactics like trying to tilt other players and just makes a nuisance out of himself in the most unuseful way. These are $1-2 games dude!!!At the end, the guy reports his profit after 23 sessions, and given the number of hours he states he plays on average, his hourly rate is about 40% of minimum wage. In other words, if he DOUBLED his win rate, heâd be making less than a 1st day McDonalds employee. The strategy is not only not helpful, it would be truly a shame if a beginning poker enthusiast got his hands on this book. Especially with so many great free training and coaching vids and e-books. Tack on an author who is wildly unlikable, and youâve got a complete waste of time and money. If this review saves at least 1 poker life, my time in writing it will have been worth it. Stay away!!!

Title: The simplified central theme of this very good poker book is "SPATS
Review: The simplified central theme of this very good poker book is "SPATS," the author's acronym for a method of playing tight. It's a great book for beginning poker players because it's a sound system for playing, written in an easily understood format, and includes the author's "poker diary" detailing his results while applying SPATS. I recommend it highly for beginners, and I think intermediate players (like me) will definitely take something away from it as well.

Title: so you cant hate on it to hard
Review: I came here to write a fair review because most of the others seem to be misleading. I am 70 pages in and so far the only strategy is a loose tip to only play certain hands and to give off a tight image. That is it. The rest has been just him talking about his interactions with people at the table. One guy giving him his advice on divorce. wtf? Now don't get me wrong he was actually entertaining for the most part, and it was only $2.99. so you cant hate on it to hard. its a fun little read. But reading the other reviews calling it the poker bible and the way to play poker in 2017 seems like a bit of a stretch. Honestly reading his thought process in some of the hands I questioned if I was a better player then him already. In terms of a poker book for fun id rate it good. In terms of skills you pick up id rate it below average.

Title: Helpful and entertaining
Review: I'm coming of a slump where I have considered taking a sabbatical from poker. I work offshore so sometimes the decision is made for me. I can't wait to get home and apply this strategy. That being said. I loved the side notes and short stories that accompany the main point of the book. It adds a little extra entertainment to the read. Mossy other strategy books droll on and on with pot odds , bet sizes ,and position. I enjoyed it.

Title: Not good for strategy!
Review: It seems entertaining but not good for strategy. After hearing his NEVER Rebuy rule and then seeing him call $36 pre with 99 HU vs a tight player with likely AA or KK with effective stacks of $181 and thinking he was a genius when he flopped a set, I don't think I can read anymore.

Review: Interesting approach to the game. It may likely work for game of $1-$2 or $2-$5 NL games. Still not a bad range to use if you don't have a range to start. Basically the range is 24% which is a good range against fish or regulars who plays at a much higher percentage.

Review: If you wanted a book about poker stories and experiences, then it quite a good book with a quick a few funny's in there for good measure..If you brought this book to work on your poker range and get a deeper understanding then not so much.. the system the author uses can be explained in about two pages and his results to back this method about one more page. That it.
