Title: Hilarious, Irreverent and a fun ride
Review: Having been a fan of Titus since his stint at Grantland (RIP) and loving his writing both there and at the Ringer, I always intended to read his book but was lazy to getting around to doing so (Titus would understand). After loving his podcast both during the T'd Up days and in its second form as One Shining Podcast, I was missing Titus from my life after both he and Tate left the Ringer to move onto other things. The void left by the loss of One Shining Podcast left me missing Titus's unique blend of genuine passion for college basketball, his natural ability to satirize sports writing and discourse and his well-timed, Irreverent sense of humor. Since Titus's time at Ohio State overlapped with my won time as a student at Michigan State, I loved the trips down memory lane and the different perspective of a walk-on from a Big Ten rival.The book itself is hilarious, with many chapters playing out as excellent "Dirty Laundry" (for OSP fans) segemets. The unprecedented access into a premier college basketball program through the eyes of a person who had intimate knowledge of the inner-workings of the program, but one who could afford to be honest and forthright, is a captivating read for any serious college basketball fan, or, indeed, anyone who enjoys funny people recounting their wild college stories. I expected this to be a book that I read in short bursts, but Titus's descriptions, wit and anecdotes made it a book that I found myself deliberately setting aside large chunks of time to read. I highly recommend it.

Title: Sophmoric, politically incorrect, crude -- and pretty darn funny
Review: The author prefaces his book that his target audience is males age 18-34 and anyone else might not find it funny. I think he hits the nail on the head and I might add "sports fans" or even "Ohio State fans" to his demographic. The book is a gem for anyone wanting to hear ribald stories from the viewpoint of college students and athletes, specifically. For Ohio State fans, the book is a gold mine of voyeuristic humor. Think Jim Bouton's "Ball Four" in a Buckeye uniform at 19 years old. I happen to follow the Buckeyes as a fan, so the tales of Matta, Oden and Evan "The Villain" Turner made me laugh out loud throughout the book. Titus is that old man sitting around spinning tall tales that both hilarious and believable enough to make you wonder how much is true and how much is embellished. If you're not a Buckeye fan or don't laugh at Adam Sandler or Will Farrell movies -- this book may not be for you.

Title: Funny, Insightful, Irreverent
Review: Trust me, if you hate laughing while reading, then please stay away from this book. It is hilarious and more than a few times I had to put down my Kindle for fear that my laughing hysterically would cause me to drop it, break it, and make me sad all of the sudden.The only itch is that it could have been longer, but I suppose that's a compliment as well. The 'behind the scenes' stories were hilarious. We all knew that Greg Oden was a great guy, this confirmed it (other than one incident later in life), we perhaps didn't know much about Evan Turner other than his decent NBA career, but he comes off as interesting guy, with a startling sense of perspective at times. Mark Titus is a jokester, someone who was aware of his limitations as a player, and thus moved along accordingly. He was the peanut gallery, and I don't know that a book like this told from Turner's perspective as a 'star' would be as effective.Is this another The Breaks of the Game? Of course not, it never tries to be. It gives you a time (2006-10), a place (Columbus, Ohio for the most part), and setting (hoops, because if Titus had a personal life while he was in Columbus, well he rarely touches on it here). Good enough for me. If you want more of his writing, he's become one of Bill Simmons' crew of loyalists, and has worked with him at Grantland and The Ringer.

Title: Sports Memoir for the Blog Generation
Review: First started reading Mark Titus last year as a contributor to the sports blog website Grantland and decided to order this book. I have to say I was impressed. While not a Buckeye, I did attend a big state school that is crazy about basketball, (and has actually had a fair amount of success against the Buckeyes lately, Rock Chalk!) so I was eager to get the insider's perspective on college basketball.While I have seen some of the reviews state that this book can be fun for people outside of the target demographic, I wanted to add that if you ARE in the target demographic, then you will REALLY love this book. I happen to be the same age as Titus, and attended college during the same timespan, so all of the basketball moments are fresh in my mind and pretty much all of his jokes and cultural references struck me as things my friends and I would joke about. While there is a lot about this book that is universally funny, some of his references and admittedly immature style might alienate some of the "outside demographic readers" but if you happen to also be a 25 year old male who thinks that poop jokes are still funny you will be rolling.This is a quick read, and I was surprised at how well his blog-style format translated to the longer form, weaving anecdotes and reflections throughout a clear throughline story. Also, it is rare that a book pushes me to audible laughter, but this book left in me fits of childish giggles multiple times.

Review: Esilarante libro sulle avventure di uno scaldapanchina in uno dei top team del college basketball, mondo purtroppo ancora poco conosciuto in Italia a causa della pressochè nulla esposizione mediatica, ma che meriterebbe ben più attenzione, con tutte le splendide storie che ci offre.E quella di Mark Titus non è da meno: discreto giocatore a livello high school (ma non sufficiente a livello universitario di Division I) dalla personalità esuberante che a Ohio State ne combina di tutti i colori sia fuori dal campo che nelle poche volte che vede il campo. In questo libro descrive in modo esilarante tutte le sue imprese e gli scherzi a compagni e staff, con bersaglio preferito il permalosissimo Evan Turner, da lui soprannominato "The Villain" (il cattivo).Titus scrive senza remore e senza peli sulla lingua, perciò il libro risulta tanto divertente che scorre via senza neanche accorgersene (io ci ho messo 4 giorni a finirlo).Consigliato se siete appassionati di basket e avete un livello d'inglese discreto, o almeno la pazienza di cercare le parole che non si capiscono (anche se spesso basta il contesto per afferrare il significato delle frasi).
