Houston’s dining scene is a colorful culinary tapestry of local and international food traditions. Whether it’s barbecue, Southern comfort food, or fine dining, H-town is emerging as a foodie destination―there has never been a more exciting time to eat in the Bayou City. Houston Cooks is an exciting collection of eighty signature dishes from forty of the city’s leading restaurants. Designed with the home cook in mind, this exciting anthology celebrates a vibrant culinary scene with dishes including Harold in the Heights’ shrimp and grits, Harlem Road BBQ’s savory lamb chops, The Dunlavy’s chocolate-covered cherry pie with stout… and so much more. Title: Houston Cooks is the bomb!
Review: Whether you live in Houston, are a regular visitor, or simply love food, this book is not to be missed. It is a truly a joy to peruse. Francine Spiering loves food, and particularly champions food that is flavorful, utilizes locally-sourced ingredients and which expresses the ‘story’ of their creator/chef. The book is beautiful and well-structured. After a brief introduction the ‘chapters’ highlight a story from a featured chef, followed by 2 recipes from the chef’s restaurant. The photography and layout are really enjoyable, so I can recommend perusing Houston Cooks even if you don’t enjoy flavorful food.

Title: Restaurant recipes that are representative of Houston's diversity
Review: Francine captures the breadth of diversity of Houston's population through its restaurants, which what one would look for in Houston. At least for food lovers. This is not a book for the home cook looking for a quick meal. These are recipes from restaurants, which range from simple to perhaps a weekend project. They provide inspiration to home cooks in pushing the envelope in their own kitchens or recreating restaurant favorites at home when one is not able to drive out or even fly out to them.
