Title: The perfect kind of guide book!
Review: This was my travel guide throughout the mountains of Tuscany! Each restaurant was wonderful & it took us to places that we would have never gone to if I hadn't read this book....Ah, and the roads! We used a GPS system & several restaurants were truly off the grid. Good thing the author gives very specific directions.I wish there was a guide like this for every place I visit.

Review: I really enjoyed Beth Elon's writing about little trips through part of Tuscany, coupling reviews of the sites with reviews of selected restaurants. My only complaint would be that she should do a Volume 2 with the parts of Tuscany she did not cover so well -- most of the book covers northern Tuscany with a little bit south on the coastline.

Review: ...you would enjoy this book if you were "over 50"! I am far from 50, yet still found this book a pleasure to read. It will come in handy if you are a foodie--of any age, ahem--who is traveling through Tuscany and would like to explore far from the tourist haunts. It's one part tour guide, one part cookbook, and one part armchair traveler/cultural immersion. Beth Elon's descriptions of the local characters are thoughtful and engaging, and her detailed information about local cuisine makes me want to try every recipe in this book.

Title: Disappointing
Review: While traveling Tuscany two months ago, I tried to use this book but found it wasn't user friendly. Luckily I had several other books like Frommer's Florence, Tuscany and Umbria (Frommer's Color Complete) that had better offbeat, ranked and find-able eating establishments! The locals were extremely good at aiming me toward fantastic food. I must say the best food in the world is in Tuscany. I find this travel guide a little dated and not well written for the average tourist on a culinary search. I was disappointed with its shortcomings: One small map each chapter that is hard to follow with many unnamed roads and no way to tell which point was a restaurant and which was a city unless you read the whole chapter and mark accordingly. There was no overall map of Tuscany to tie the chapters together for location etc. The eating establishments were never rated by the author for the reader to choose intelligently. Another shortcoming of the author is the extensive placement of recipes. This does not help the traveler as generally they don't cook while touring. This book might be good for its recipes while back at home, but not for an easily usable tour guide of eating establishments.

Title: Exceptional
Review: My recent trip to Tuscany was magical primarily due to the musings of Beth Elon. I did most of her suggestions and saw the area in a way that I'd have been unable to do otherwise. Her insights, her food suggestions, are magical. Don't go to Tuscany without reading this book.This is travel heaven.

Title: Lovely book
Review: A fun and informative light read. I don't know when or if I'll ever do the food tours she recommends but her love and knowledge of these small towns and their unique foods and cultures comes through vividly which would make any one want to follow her recommendations.

Review: We saw maybe three recipes in there that excited us. It was interesting to read about the local fare produced in various small towns, but since we aren't planning on going to any of them it wasn't of too much use. We will be spending three weeks in Chianti and the author doesn't mention a single town in that region. She writes about almost every other area on the periphery of Tuscany, but not a word about its heart.

Review: This book made our holiday in Tuscany an oustanding success as her recommendations for restaurants were spot-on, and we found her descriptions of interesting places to visit near each restaurant were far more informative than most guide books. I heartily recommend this book to anyone interested in eating genuine Tuscan food prepared with pride and care by Tuscan people.
