A cornucopia for road warriors and armchair epicures alike, Roadfood is a road map to some of the tastiest treasures in the United States.
First published in 1977, the original Roadfood became an instant classic. James Beard said, "This is a book that you should carry with you, no matter where you are going in these United States. It's a treasure house of information." The 40th anniversary edition of Roadfood includes 1,000 of America's best local eateries along highways and back roads, with nearly 200 new listings, as well as a brand new design.
Filled with enticing alternatives for chain-weary-travelers, Roadfood provides descriptions of and directions to (complete with regional maps) the best lobster shacks on the East Coast; the ultimate barbecue joints down South; the most indulgent steak houses in the Midwest; and dozens of top-notch diners, hotdog stands, ice-cream parlors, and uniquely regional finds in between. Each entry delves into the folkways of a restaurant's locale as well as the dining experience itself, and each is written in the Sterns' entertaining and colorful style.
"The bible for motorists seeking mouthwatering barbecue or homemade pie." - USA Today

Title: A Family Trip Must Have
Review: There is no greater joy in life than planning a roadtrip - filling up the day with scenic byways, national and state parks to stop and visit, and of course the three meals a day that can make or break any roadtrip experience. Bought this book on a whim and have never been disappointed with a recommendation as I've shuttled the family around Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Ohio. You can plan your driving days around the restaurants in this book. It's also fantastic that the restaurants they recommend are typically reasonably priced, family friendly, and packed with locals who share their history and experiences with you as you eat. Get off the interstate, avoid the fast food chains, and saddle up to some amazing out of the way comfort food. A must have!

Title: Eater's Guide
Review: We bought this guide to help us find places to eat during a 3 week cross-country trip. Frankly, there weren't enough restaurants to choose from, and we ended up using it less than we originally thought. It is a fun book and does have some out-of-the-way places that were offered.

Title: OTR Trucker Gift!
Review: This is a great gift for OTR truckers. Men and women who have to travel all over the country and often times look for a place to grab a bite to eat, besides their truckstop gas station. I gave this to my dad for Christmas who is an OTR trucker and he was very pleased with it. Itâs paperback so it can easily fit in their truck and they can consult it when they get certain places to see if thereâs any good grub around.Let me know if my review was helpful!

Title: Seriously needs a revision.
Review: We are making a road trip from South Dakota to Texas in our RV and thought this book would be great for stops along the way; however, itâs clear a lot of the restaurants are no longer in business. Maybe itâs a COVID thing, which put a lot of restaurants out of business but finding restaurants along your route is hard enough. Then finding out half of them are out of business is so disappointing. Please update the book so only those still in business are included. Add an author if needed. If you purchase this book, understand that it is seriously outdated!

Title: Excellent Book on Road Food Joints and Restaurants that are not normally included on the Road Food Tours.
Review: Excellent summary of Road Food Stops from coast to coast. I've visited some of these places, and the summary in the Road Food book is extremely accurate. I also like the fact that they have included some excellent facilities that are not normally on the Road Food radar screen, but these places need to be mentioned in any book on food. Despite the fact that these places are more expensive than the normal Road Food joint, the description of these places is spot on and should be included in this book.
