She’s rewriting his love story. But can she rewrite her own?
Emma Wheeler desperately longs to be a screenwriter. She’s spent her life studying, obsessing over, and writing romantic comedies—good ones! That win contests! But she’s also been the sole caretaker for her kind-hearted dad, who needs full-time care. Now, when she gets a chance to re-write a script for famous screenwriter Charlie Yates—The Charlie Yates! Her personal writing god!—it’s a break too big to pass up.
Emma’s younger sister steps in for caretaking duties, and Emma moves to L.A. for six weeks for the writing gig of a lifetime. But what is it they say? Don’t meet your heroes? Charlie Yates doesn’t want to write with anyone—much less “a failed, nobody screenwriter.” Worse, the romantic comedy he’s written is so terrible it might actually bring on the apocalypse. Plus! He doesn’t even care about the script—it’s just a means to get a different one green-lit. Oh, and he thinks love is an emotional Ponzi scheme.
But Emma’s not going down without a fight. She will stand up for herself, and for rom-coms, and for love itself. She will convince him that love stories matter—even if she has to kiss him senseless to do it. But . . . what if that kiss is accidentally amazing? What if real life turns out to be so much . . . more real than fiction? What if the love story they’re writing breaks all Emma’s rules—and comes true?

Title: The very best from Katherine Center!
Review: Katherine Center is one of my all-time favorites and this book is a prime example of why. At its core, it's a love letter to rom-coms and writers who create them - and it's also much deeper than that. Katherine has a unique ability to take very deep and heavy topics (tw: death of a parent, cancer diagnosis) and work through them in a very bright and heartwarming way. This book made me laugh-out-loud and tear up at various times and really evoked a whole range of emotions.Read this book if you enjoy:> Forced proximity> Grumpy/sunshine> Writer MCs (screenplay writers)> Hollywood> Slow burn/closed-door romance> Banter and humorI loved both of these MCs. While I usually enjoy dual-POV stories, this one didn't feel lacking because we got such a well-rounded view of the MMC through his dialogue and other sources. His gruff/grumpy demeanor was well done - with enough breadcrumbs to see how he was starting to feel about the FMC without it seeming abrupt or disjointed. The FMC had a lot going on! And all of her backstory was treated with care and really made sense to highlight the character she was and her growth throughout the story. The banter between the two was fun and I definitely had some laugh out loud moments with the FMC. And I loved that this was a strong FMC who didn't take any crap from the MMC.There were some really great side characters in the FMCs story - her family and extended network in Texas was such a crucial part of who she was and her journey. The different Hollywood cameos and network that the MMC had made it very interesting to show the difference in their two experiences. And I adored the Jack Stapleton (The Bodyguard) cameo at different points in the story.I was so excited to get a chance to read this book early - thank you so much to NetGalley, KC and St Martin's Press for the eARC to read and review. All (very enthusiastic!) thoughts are my own.

Title: Just what I needed!
Review: I love this book! Fun, original, quirky. Great heroine. Lots better than I expected, and (IMHO) better than two other books I have read by this author. I'm only 2/3 through reading, and I'm going to slow down now so I don't get to the end! Only four stars just because it's not great literature, but nevertheless a great representative of the genre.

Title: Witty Writers With Words of Wisdom Win
Review: This hilarious, spunky, tissue grabbing and oh let me read this other part to you story that Katherine Center has put together with The Rom-Commers is a perfect read - no matter where you are going or at. This is a refreshing read where the protagonist begins learning how to release guilt that are not ours to own, yet more importantly- how we grow with the help of those around us! You will enjoy the playful banter, schoolteacher strength, and self-belief that is the backbone of this love story.

Title: BEST BOOK OF 2024
Review: Okay, hear me out: PICK THIS BOOK UP. NO IFS. NO BUTS. NO REGRETS.Absolutely the best rom-com I've read this year. Non-erotic books are so rare these days that, I am telling you, I truly cried when I reached 97% and none of those s3x scenes happened!!! Just pure words. Pure poetry. Just a really really great story. I love it. I love it so much that i even bought the book. Will definitely read this again.

Title: I loved it, but they fell in love without really falling
Review: I enjoyed this book sooooo much. Itâs like a hug to the soul. Literally. Itâs my first Katherine Center book so I wasnât sure about what to expect, but Iâm just so happy I gave it a go.It has everything a romcom lover like me could ever ask. Two characters with different perspectives about what love is and with their own complicated lives that find each other in another complicated context. Just delightful. I laughed and cried and loved while reading it.

Title: Solid 3 star Read
Review: I went into this book not sure what to expect. I generally really enjoy Katherine Center but I had heard that this wasn't her best work. With that in mind I read it and found myself enjoying it. It was a quick read. The main characters were likable and the storyline kept things moving. Having said that, when writing this review a couple of days after finishing I had to go back and reread the synopsis to recall the story. So while this book is an entertaining way to spend a few hours, the story is unlikely to be one that sticks with you for very long.

Title: working through writers block with Charlie & Emma ðð§ð¸
Review: The Rom-Commers by @katherinecenterWhen I say this has been one of my favorite reads to date, I am not exaggerating.Charlie is a celebrated screen writer, âliving it upâ in LA, while Emma is close to home with family and responsibilities. When sheâs offered the job opportunity of a lifetime to help her all time favorite writer and role model ghost write a rom-com she hesitates to take it but is finally convinced itâs her time to shine.I never knew I needed to experience a friendship like theirs. The wit, humor, banter and overall literal friendship they develop as theyâre working together was absolutely amazing. She challenges him, he challenges her. He doesnât believe in love which is a huge reason why his rom-com is so terrible. She only believes in love and has a 257 part best kiss during rom-coms spreadsheet to refer back to at any given moment. All she does is believe in love.Line dancing lessons, the toll of living with someone whoâs health isnât what it once was, a touch of celebrity status perspective and overall regular life and normalcy in grocery shopping and cooking together give this so many different emotions and keep you hooked from page one.I have yet to pick up a story by K. Center I havenât liked, but this is an all time favorite of all favorites for me.The Rom-Com of all Rom-Coms ðâ¨ð§¡5âï¸, I wish I could give it 10âï¸.

Review: This was a treat. I laughed, I cried, I imagined Adam Brody playing Charlie in the movie version.Feeling grareful for stories that dig deep into our tragedies while also reminding us of the happy endings. Maybe I'll even start a gratitude journal, who knows.

Review: Katherine Center is incapable of writing a bad book, I'm convinced. Except for a couple of weird sentences, this story was pure pleasure and evoked happy tears. Just like her other books. This author knows how to make you laugh and make you "feel." I wrote down so many great quotes, but in the interest of saving time I'll just pick one for this review."Whatever story you tell yourself about your life, that's the one that will be true."Highly recommend The Rom-Commers. It's right up their with my favourites: The Body Guard; and "Things You Save In A Fire."
