Six summers to fall in love. One moment to fall apart. A weekend to get it right.
They say you can never go home again, and for Persephone Fraser, ever since she made the biggest mistake of her life a decade ago, that has felt too true. Instead of glittering summers on the lakeshore of her childhood, she spends them in a stylish apartment in the city, going out with friends, and keeping everyone a safe distance from her heart.
Until she receives the call that sends her racing back to Barry’s Bay and into the orbit of Sam Florek—the man she never thought she’d have to live without.
For six summers, through hazy afternoons on the water and warm summer nights working in his family’s restaurant and curling up together with books—medical textbooks for him and work-in-progress horror short stories for her—Percy and Sam had been inseparable. Eventually that friendship turned into something breathtakingly more, before it fell spectacularly apart.
When Percy returns to the lake for Sam’s mother’s funeral, their connection is as undeniable as it had always been. But until Percy can confront the decisions she made and the years she’s spent punishing herself for them, they’ll never know whether their love might be bigger than the biggest mistakes of their past.
Told over the course of six years and one weekend, Every Summer After is a big, sweeping nostalgic story of love and the people and choices that mark us forever.

Title: Beautifully Written Romance
Review: **"Every Summer After"** by Carley Fortune is a beautifully written romance that explores the themes of love, regret, and the complexities of personal growth. The story follows Persephone âPercyâ Fraser, who, after making a life-altering mistake ten years ago, distances herself from her childhood memories spent in Barryâs Bay, opting for a more glamorous but emotionally guarded life in the city. However, a sudden call forces her to return to the lakeshore, bringing her face-to-face with Sam Florekâthe boy she once loved and lost.Through a series of poignant flashbacks, readers are transported back to the six summers of their inseparable friendship, filled with laughter, shared dreams, and an evolving romance that ultimately crumbles under the weight of their unaddressed emotions. As Percy navigates the heart-wrenching task of mourning Samâs mother, she is compelled to confront the past and the choices that have shaped her life. Fortune captures the nuance of rekindling an old flame, emphasizing the importance of honesty and forgiveness in moving forward. **"Every Summer After"** is a nostalgic and heartfelt journey that examines how love endures through time and the significance of second chances, making it a compelling read for those who cherish stories of love that resonate across the seasons of life.

Title: An emotional love storyð©·
Review: Wow. Wow wow wow. This is my first Carley Fortune book but it will NOT be my last. This story touched my soul and altered my brain chemistry forever. For one, the writing was impeccable. I couldnât put it down because I had to know what was unfolding and how it was relating to the present. And for one, I LOVE when books are told in present and past POVs so we get to see how the past unfolded that lead to the present being how it is. But letâs talk about Sam and Percy. For me, one of the reasons I loved this book so much was how human and relatable they both were. It felt REAL. It felt like there were parts of myself I saw in them, and was almost cathartic to see that and admire or LIKE those certain parts being portrayed in another characterâ even when I personally donât always think theyâre a flattering or charming part of MY personality. And their love story? I was hooked and rooting for them from the very first interaction. Being in love with your best friend is one of the most amazing feelings in the world, and is SO important to me because I feel like it really is the backbone of a relationship. And to see it portrayed so beautifully was amazing.ð©·

Title: Love story!
Review: If I could forget everything I read and read this book for the first time again I would. This amazing book is about young love, heart break, and rekindling feelings years later. I could not put this book down once I started. It did not seem to drag on, it was exciting and adventurous (and a little spicy) on every page.

Title: YA Beach Read But Engrossing Debut
Review: What happens when you meet The One at age 13? This seemingly sweet books takes the route that they're sensible, have all the time in the world, & both have goals. They only have summers & a holiday together so they rely on email & phone calls. Their emotions, mistakes, miscommunications, dating others ring true as they grow through their teens until college. Their relationship exists completely in a bubble in a small resort town w/essentially non-existent parents & they do nothing w/o each other so readers see the couple under a microscope. Without ground rules for attending 2 different colleges, things blow up.I found a great deal to like in this - the couple, the specificity of their friendship, the writing, and the setting - Canadian woodsy resorts were off my radar. The alternating Then/Now format didn't bother me. I rooted for them. I expected the YA novel to transition into the advertised beach read.It doesn't. There's no real emotional growth for Persephone from 13 to 32 although she notes every detail of Sam's physical change into hotness (thereby dragging out the teen years too long). Neither of them take any advice even when they ask for it. They make the usual mistake of not communicating that leads to their breakup & 13 year estrangement. This could've been a better book despite the local resort boy/visiting girl & friends to romance tropes (the author acknowledges all the authors she's read in this genre). There's a sweetness & innocence to Sam that disappears the minute he arrives at a pre-college program - he has an excuse but fails to communicate to P. She, being left behind & alone, panics & acts out. P. is revealed to be so self-centered that she didn't realize that Sam is so smart that he's valedictorian of his class & accepted into an elite academic program at his elite university or has loads of friends at his high school. She also stays the same emotional age through the epilogue. I couldn't understand why after all the loneliness & loss, they STILL hadn't married a year after they reconcile (when he'd proposed a decade earlier). They're 32 & fully aware of how short life can be. Graphic sex scenes that go on for pages appear out of nowhere in the last 1/3 of the book that ruin all the subtlety that had come before. Hope the author gets a better editor & decides her genre - beach read, novel, erotica, or YA. It's imperfect, but worth a read.

Title: Quick and Easy Read
Review: I truly wanted to love this book. I know this is the authors first book, so I will say that I donât regret reading it. The book started off so well and very strong and I couldnât put it down. I loved a good 2/3 of it. The characters were fully developed and well liked. The story lines were easy to follow and left me wanting me more. The buildup and anticipation to reveal what Percy needed to tell Sam was pretty predictable. I truly hoped I was wrong about my prediction as I didnât want that to be what broke her/them. Once the climax was revealed, the story just fell through the cracks. The potential the author couldâve given Sam and Percyâs relationship after they were reunited truly fell short and was rushed.
