FROM THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF PEOPLE WE MEET ON VACATION AND BOOK LOVERS!

A romance writer who no longer believes in love and a literary writer stuck in a rut engage in a summer-long challenge that may just upend everything they believe about happily ever afters.

Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes bestselling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast.

They’re polar opposites.

In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they're living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer's block.

Until, one hazy evening, one thing leads to another and they strike a deal designed to force them out of their creative ruts: Augustus will spend the summer writing something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel. She’ll take him on field trips worthy of any rom-com montage, and he’ll take her to interview surviving members of a backwoods death cult (obviously). Everyone will finish a book and no one will fall in love. Really.

Title: Nothing compares 2 u
Review: 𝔹𝕖𝕒𝕔𝕙 ℝ𝕖𝕒𝕕 𝕓𝕪 𝔼𝕞𝕚𝕝𝕪 ℍ𝕖𝕟𝕣𝕪⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Review: this book was beautiful. Utterly heart wrenching in all of the best ways. The banter between the characters, the humor, and the dark themes that were implemented created this perfect read. It had a lot more meaning to it than just romance. It touched on real life issues in the world, and it easily made it to where it can be relatable rather than just a fictional book world.the FMC’s inner monologue was so relatable and I find myself thinking some of the same thoughts that she experienced herself. Kind of refreshing to know that you aren’t the only one in the world with those thoughts. (I know she’s fictional buttt ;)the two different plots, one about loss & one of the romance, you’re really just holding on hope the entire book and I found myself rooting for the main characters - extensively.I did find myself sobbing with the FMC multiple times so just fair warning that it may trigger some emotions, but overall this book was such a great read & really ties everything up in the ending. 🥺💗Favorite quotes:“Even if there aren’t any snowflakes, we’ll have January all year long.”“When I watch you sleep, I feel overwhelmed that you exist.” (Of course this one) 🩶“But people aren’t math problems.”Emily Henry really did it this one, 10/10!

Title: seriously thorough rom com
Review: This book manages to bend the genre of “woman’s lit” so exceedingly well. It is serious and thoughtful, with a pair of sexy protagonists that you love in a romance.I enjoyed it immensely.

Title: One of my favorites
Review: Beach Read was my first Emily Henry book and I’ve now been along for the ride about seven books in. I love this special edition which has the more yellowy color muted on the cover. The book itself is so good, although it doesn’t have a very in-your-face romance. For the majority of the book our two main characters are mostly just walking in the other’s shoe in a sort of contest they created to try and write in the other’s genre. It’s a very slow burn, and has a lot of good commentary as well.

Title: well written, but ...
Review: The book is certainly well-written and explores the theme of self-identity with a decent amount of drama. However, I struggled to sympathize with the main female character, January. In my opinion, she came across as immature and shallow. The revelation that her seemingly perfect parents had flaws and made mistakes led her to overthink her own life choices and her sense of self. While it's a normal process for most people to separate from their parents during their teenage years or later, January seemed to be a late bloomer in this regard, only reaching this point at the age of 29.While it's understandable to feel a sense of betrayal upon discovering that your perfect father had another woman in his life, I felt that the drama surrounding January's character was a bit too much, without fully addressing her own immaturity. As a result, the book seemed to be more focused on the action going on in her head rather than on the development of the plot. Additionally, I found January's tendency to put off important conversations and avoid reading her deceased father's letter to be quite frustrating.Amidst all of January's personal drama, I found that the romance aspect of the plot was somewhat neglected. It lacked originality, as the two main characters already knew each other from the past, with him being infatuated while she remained oblivious. Despite nearly a decade passing and both of them having experienced different relationships in between, they seamlessly picked up where they left off, as if the intervening years never happened. The ex-wife drama was poorly communicated. The male character's suggestion that he could potentially get back together with his ex, but wouldn't, was not particularly romantic in my opinion. Overall, while the book has its merits, I found it to be lacking in certain areas.

Title: A Delightful and Refreshing Read
Review: Beach Read by Emily Henry is an absolute gem of a novel. It’s the perfect blend of romance, humor, and heartfelt moments, making it a delightful escape from reality. The story follows two authors, January and Gus, who are struggling with writer's block and end up spending the summer in neighboring beach houses. Their unique challenge to swap genres and write something completely different results in an engaging and witty story.

Review: This book is a great book to read in the summer! I read it in 2 days and it got me out of my reading and writing slump! I owe Emily Henry for that! Love her books so much. This is the first one I read from her and I loved it. The romance was so cute. The cover is fun and light hearted, but don't let that fool you! It has lots of emotion and is way deeper than I expected. I love how the main character thinks and processes things, she's a very realistic person. The setting is so cute in a small town and beach houses. Both writers! Sooooo cute. The writing is also very good and I wish I could write like she does.

Review: REVIEWcw: mentions of cancer, adultery, death, grief, religious cults and violence, child abuse and DVFormer college rivals, now authors Augustus Everett and January Andrews' novels couldn't be any different. One writes literary fiction, the other romance. The only thing they have in common? Both have severe writer's block. When they inadvertently reunite at neighbouring lakeside houses, they strike a deal to force themselves out of their creative ruts: Augustus (Gus) will write a draft of January's romance novel and January will write an Augustus-style bleak literary fiction novel. This was not the book I thought it was going to be. At all. I mean that in the best possible way. I genuinely thought I was about to read a light-hearted, frothy romance, especially given the blurb (I hasten to add, I also LOVE reading these types of stories), but instead, I was treated to a nuanced examination of overcoming grief, betrayal, childhood trauma, and mistrust.I loved January. My heart broke for her as she had to slowly make sense of her past, alongside the reality of the lies that had been woven by her father. I found these parts so well-written, especially considering this was a debut novel. Cheating is a bit of a trigger for me, so I never expected to feel so much compassion for Sonya, and definitely not for January's father. While neither she nor Walt's actions were acceptable, the author allowed us to see their regrets, and I loved how January was able to realise her own fortitude after the revelations. As for the letters? I was sobbing, utterly wrecked reading them alongside January. I also appreciated how she reassessed her previous relationships, particularly this line:He fit so perfectly into the love story I’d imagined for myself that I mistook him for the love of my life.I don't think I've ever identified with a character more! I completely empathised with her mistrust and self-doubt about relationships from the depths of my heart, but I LOVED how she was slowly able to open up to Gus, and the development of their relationship was so moving.I loved Gus immediately. He was such a complicated cinnamon roll with so many layers. My heart broke for him when he revealed some of his past and the way he'd processed his trauma. It's no secret I ADORE pining, and it was done SO well here. They were so cute together, and their chemistry felt authentic. C.23 was utter perfection, and, even though I'd seen it coming, I was fist-pumping the air when he was finally able to open up to January. And the banter! It was SUBLIME. I loved the shorthand of their conversations as the story progressed as well as all of their notes to each other. I also loved their people-watching stories, as well as their conversations with hypothetical storylines. I would definitely read the Ferris wheel operator story, Gus's cult romance, as well as 'Family Secrets', not to mention their entire back catalogue of published books. While this was a gorgeous slow-burn, (kinda) second-chance, enemies-to-lovers romance, aside from the romance and family drama, there was some excellent commentary on creative writing. January was so relatable, and I identified with her writer's block. Those scenes made me itch with understanding, and even though I've never published anything, the anxiety over deadlines was so relatable and engaging. I also loved the research 'dates' they went on, and though it was heartbreaking, the interviews with the cult member's relatives were fascinating. January's friend, Shadi was hilarious but also wise, and I adored Pete, Gus's aunt, and her wife Maggie. They were hilarious but also so tender towards both Gus and January. The ending tied everything up perfectly, and I LOVED that they expressly spoke of HFN. And while I ADORED Gus reciting January's dedication from her first novel, his dedication at the end was truly swoon-worthy.Utter perfection.Overall Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️Heat Rating: 🔥🔥
