John and Judy are in the 12% tax bracket. But when they took $10k from their IRA they had a 50% tax increase. Why? When John died Judy’s income went down by 33% but her taxes went UP! Why? Isn’t interest on municipal bonds tax free? Then why did it cause John and Judy’s taxes to increase? When Judy took out $20k to take her daughter on a cruise it cost her $9,908 in taxes. Yet when Jane did the same it cost her nothing. And they both have $80k in total income. Why? When Bob took out $10,000 from his IRA his taxes tripled. Why? Why did Bob’s Medicare premiums nearly double when he took out an extra $10k from his IRA? When Jenny, a divorced gas station attendant making $35k a year, inherited an IRA from her mom she lost 25% in Federal taxes. Why? In this book we’re not only going to answer these questions but we’re also going to show you what you should be doing NOW to avoid the stealth tax increases retirees face but are ignorant of...until it's too late.

Title: straight to the point
Review: This is an example driven book that is even to follow and adjust the examples to your personal situation. The survivor information was really valuable to me because I didnât run those scenarios in regards to ROTH conversions

Title: Should be a 5
Review: I thought the book had some really good information and will definitely give me something to think about as I head into my retirement planning years. I would have given this book a 5 but it will not let me read chapters 11 & 12 and Amazon customer service is none existent.

Title: Life Changing
Review: I am so glad I bought this book. I read it in an hour but then bought it for my sister, sent the title to my boss and some co-workers. It is easy to read, the tables make understanding the concepts easy. It has changes my focus in my retirement plan. It just gives facts and examples. Not like the other books that just try to talk you into life insurance. This is truly about information you need to retire tax free or best you can. The impacts of my pre-tax 401K on how my social security will be taxed was eye opening, one of those things you should have put together but didn't. Buy IT READ it Pass it on!!!!

Title: Does not explore question if roth conversion makes sense
Review: The message, repeated ad nauseam : if you have your retirement in roth, you will pay less taxes than if the same funds are in tax deferred account. OK, I get it. many examples showing this. Does not really explore the cost of conversion and if it is advantageous. A slim volume, could have been cut in half again

Title: clear and compact
Review: A very quick read that clearly makes the case for Roth IRAs, not just from a tax-now-vs-tax-later perspective but from estate planning, social security tax minimization, Medicare IRMAA minimization perspectives as well. Definitely worth reading.

Title: Useful for some
Review: My situation was pretty much left out of this book. It seems most useful for people who will mainly have Social security and savings for retirement income.I will have 2 government pensions and my Social security will be taxed no matter what. My tax rate is very high now and will be almost half in retirement. The most useful for me is the idea of converting to Roth during the couple of years I will be retired and not collecting S.S. in order to maximize that benefit.Otherwise excellent.
