Title: Good information and good recipes
Review: This isn't "just" a cookbook; although, it has excellent recipes. I bought it because I recently subscribed to a seafood delivery service from Alaska and needed to know how to best prepare each item sent to me. I wasn't expecting a cookbook with so much interesting information beyond how to cook Alaskan seafood. The information about life in Alaska, descriptions of the seafood found there, and how the Salmon sisters live had me reading the entire book in one sitting. Although I don't have access to some of the seafood described (King Crab and Octopus--I wish!), I've learned a great deal about seafood and how to cook it. Oddly enough, one of my favorite recipes, though, isn't a seafood recipe. Their Breakfast Oatmeal Bread is amazing (just be sure to add the salt after you've added the last bit of flour). All in all, I'm really glad I added this book to my cookbook collection.

Review: Just got my book in! This Salmon Sisters cookbook has really delivered in many areas, even though I have not yet tried a recipe. Perusing through the pages, you will find more than simply healthy recipes made from home-grown, home-harvested, sea-caught foods. You will also find yourself immersed in the customs and lifestyle of the fisher family from Alaska. Through nimble fingers capable of tying fishing knots to writing masterful story-telling narratives to drawing artful renditions of boat life, the authors Emma and Claire make you feel like part of their family growing up on a remote Alaska homestead. You can feel the brisk, cool wind on your face and tousling your hair as you flip from page to page. I look forward to trying the Superfood Salmon Cakes, King Crab Cakes, ALL of the Halibut recipes, the Paella, the Overnight Caramel-Pecan Rolls, and the Blueberry-Apple Dutch Baby to name a few!

Title: So Much More Than a Cookbook
Review: I can honestly say this is the first cookbook I read cover to cover in one sitting. Emma and Claireâs story of having grown up on their familyâs remote Alaskan homestead, attended college on the East Coast, and moved back to Alaska to continue their familyâs fishing tradition, kept me spellbound. What a rich live these sisters have had - a life anchored by family, place, community, and preparing, cooking and eating what nature (and gardening) provides. I bought this book because I receive Alaskan fish and seafood almost every month through a CFA, and having never lived near an ocean, am often unsure about how to best prepare it. Emma and Claireâs recipes are mostly possible for me, even though I live in a small midwestern city. (The one exception being the smoked salmon which requires a smoking house-but Iâll give it a go in our gas smoker.) I am already making a list in my head of family and friends to give a copy of this special book to-the first being my daughter who attends college in Oregon and would have so loved to have been home-schooled and raised in the wild the way Emma and Claire were.

Title: What an AWESOME cook book!
Review: First off all, I hope you both read this. I'd love to come to AK and eat some of your moms smoked salmon. I'd also love to get some practice cleaning/filleting fish! What a great cookbook. I love ALL of the recipes and I'll be making many of them! 🙂 🙂 Thanks girls.
