What really haunts Fenton House?

After the tragic death of their eleven-year-old son, Adam and Ella are fighting to keep their family from falling apart. Then comes an opportunity that seems too good to be true. They win a competition to live for free in a breathtakingly beautiful mansion on the Cornish Lizard Peninsula. There’s just one catch – the house is supposedly haunted.

Mystery has always swirled around Fenton House. In 1920 the house’s original owner, reclusive industrialist Walter Lewarne, hanged himself from its highest turret. In 1996, the then inhabitants, George Trehearne, his wife Sofia and their young daughter Heloise disappeared without a trace. Neither mystery was ever solved.

Adam is not the type to believe in ghosts. As far as he’s concerned, ghosts are simply memories. Everywhere he looks in their cramped London home he sees his dead son. Despite misgivings, the chance to start afresh is too tempting to pass up. Adam, Ella and their surviving son Henry move into Fenton House. At first, the change of scenery gives them all a new lease of life. But as the house starts to reveal its secrets, they come to suspect that they may not be alone after all…

Title: Be Careful What You Wish For
Review: Sometimes the very worst things can happen to a family and yet they continue to search for the fresh start that will allow them to resume a normal life -- or at least a "new normal". Unfortunately desperation can lead you to a new opportunity that appears to be golden but turns out to be much worse than what you anticipated. Much worse!Author Ben Cheetham has crafted a nifty little horror novel that leads a desperate family to leave their small home where a tragic accident occurred for an extremely beautiful and well-constructed mansion situated on a cliff overlooking The English Channel. Answering a detailed questionnaire results in this emotionally drainedfamily unit moving into the century old home rent-free. The only problem is that it is reputed to be haunted. The characters are well-developed, the scenic descriptions are breath-taking, the narrative tight yet revealing, and the story moves along quite rapidly. The mansion itself becomes a main character and it slowly reveals what has been hidden within its walls for several decades. As the surprises continue to occur the tension ratchets up to an unbearable level. But it looks like the house has a strong hold on them and won't let them go.Mr. Cheetham has employed a few "hooks" previously used in other horror novels and allowed his fertile imagination to develop a winding and twisted plot that bears out the dramatic ending. If you pick up this novel, prepare for a no-holds-barred adventure that just keeps getting more unusual -- and scary.

Title: Scattered Read
Review: Although.the story itself is interesting, the writing is too brief. There is no detail to draw you in. It is a very fast read as a result.

Title: Read this book NOW
Review: Ben… what did you put in this book dude???!?I legit read this in 24 hours which is completely unheard of for me but omg was I just absolutely encapsulated by it.The engaging writing and the descriptive plot of this book had me hooked from the beginning. A couple with twin boys loses one of them in a freak accident. The entire book you’re wondering if it was really an accident or just his twin out to get him. They decide to apply to live in this secluded house (more of a castle) on a peninsula, and leave their life in London for a fresh start after the death of their son. They are surprised to find that they have been selected to live at this house after an interview process from the CREEPY old lady whose family it belonged to. The wife, Ella is so weary of the house from the beginning but something about it draws the father and son in. People in the town are OBSESSED with this house and it draws people in from all over wondering what truly lies behind those doors.

Title: First Cheetham book
Review: "Don't Look back" was my first exposure to Ben Cheetham. It was in my suggested readings on Goodreads and the description sounded appealing. Also, I went into this book knowing it was apart of a series.I enjoy Ben's writing style. Not everything in the Fenton House series is clear cut-which I personally like. Ms. Trehearne is enigmatic and cryptic. There is also a lot of intrigue beneath the surface of Henry. The house and description are certainly creepy.

Title: interesting and fun read
Review: I was expecting more supernatural elements. I was surprised to find out that there were more logical explanations of the things occurring in the book rather than supernatural. It was indeed interesting to find the twist at the end which I wasn’t expecting. There were a few things I wondered about that were left unanswered but maybe the next book will reveal an answer. Overall I enjoyed this book and will also read the next one in the series.
