Title: More suspense than horror; Conservative values
Review: "A Quiet Place" is as good as advertised. The movie revolves around blind monsters who hunt based on sound. Small noises are okay but anything too loud and you risk becoming a victim of the monsters. Newspaper clippings seen early in the movie give the impression that much of the world's population has been decimated by the beasts. At first appearance the monsters look spider-like but then when we see them better, they reminded me a bit of the monster from the "Alien" movies.I was pleasantly surprised by the conservative values in the movie. The family live on a farm. The mother knows how to wield a rifle. The father teaches his son how to fish and do other things to take care of the family should he eventually not be there. Obviously, with monsters hunting based on sound, there can't be loud, blaring televisions or devices, yelling or screaming, but only whispers and sign language. The characters have to communicate by looking one another in the face. They are in relationship with each other and not isolated, staring at screens. Before a family meal, they join hands and say Grace. There are four children in the family, eventually, a large family. One child, Regan Abbot (Millicent Simmonds), is deaf. Her father researches and works tirelessly to try to create a device which will bring her hearing back. The mother, Evelyn Abbot (Emily Blunt), eventually is pregnant. How in the world is a crying baby going to be able to survive the loud sound-hunting monsters? You'll have to watch. As the monsters menace, Evelyn goes into labor. This results in her acting heroically, risking her life, as she tries to bring her baby safely into the world while escaping the notice of the monsters. A heroic pregnancy. I'm not saying the makers of the movie tried to deliberately put a Pro-Life message into the movie, but I think these scenes can be taken that way. Throughout the movie, the father Lee Abbot (John Krasinski) and mother put their children before themselves and are willing to sacrifice their lives for their children's lives, if need be.With just a bit of dialogue, I've never seen a movie so silent. Even the old time silent movies would usually have a lot of jolly piano playing.Unconditional love and the strong bond of family are main themes."A Quiet Place" makes me think of a couple of similar Scriptures:"Although I have much to write to you, I do not intend to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and speak face to face so that our joy may be complete." -2 John 12"I have much to write to you, but I do not wish to write with pen and ink. Instead, I hope to see you soon, when we can talk face to face." - 3 John 13

Title: A Quiet Place - Find One to Watch It In
Review: All I'll say is that this is yet another modern horror masterpiece. There have been so many great stabs at new genre-bending horror in the last few years, and this is just another one.I love the use of sound in this film. It's very typical for horror movies to rely on sound for scares, but this film does it in a unique & inventive way that makes jump scares more "realistic". I hate horror movies that use sharp sounds and elevated volumes or pitches to get you into a state of alarm. That's not true horror, that's just manipulating the natural reactions of a human being. This film makes sound a part of the psychological experience, and thus makes this horror experience fresh. I am astounded that John Krasinski is the one behind this. I have never watched The Office, but this is definitely not where I saw him going after a lot of the more military movies he's been in (and some rom-coms I think). I'm so excited to see the sequel to see what others stories there are to tell in this universe. There's still so much to learn and there was so much to care about with this family.Just overall this is a quality experience, especially in the horror genre. It's PG-13 and doesn't rely on gore, which is awesome. As a horror fan, sometimes it's not all about the blood & guts and more about the psychological experience. While this film will not scar me in any way (like Hereditary), it had me reconsidering the way sound works and would affect us as humans in a crisis like the one faced by the family in this movie.Job well done... really missing a director's commentary but I'll always forgive an excellent film for that missing feature. Highly recommended 4K experience, and I will emphasize that it's so great in a dark & quiet room. Just an awesome film...

Title: A great horror movie
Review: This is a twist on movies that have themes of the unseen monsters, alien invasions, etc. The twist is that the monsters in this movie are blind but have super hearing and kill anything that makes noise. The movie stars John Krasinski (who wrote the screenplay and directed the movie), his real-life wife Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds, playing members of a family in what is essentially a post-apocalyptic world in which many humans and animals have been killed, in which those who have survived have to be perfectly quiet, communicate via sign language, and can only talk if they are near something that is making more noise than them.It is a very different movie, especially as a horror movie where there is very little sound. Of course, sound is key to the thrills in most horror movies, and in this one, it is the absence of sound, even background sounds, and the soundtrack are very understated. The movie pulls off what is even hard for most TV shows cannot pull off, having little to no dialog between the actors, and yet still managing to tell a compelling story. For those who get the 4k UHD Blu-Ray, the movie looks great in the format. What the film lacks in sound it makes up for in visuals and special effects. The UHD disc has just the movie, and then there are about 35 minutes (give or take) of behind the scenes and making-of featurettes on the regular Blu-Ray. Overall, the movie is well written, very well acted, and tells a unique story on an old theme of a creature-based horror movie. It is definitely worth checking out.

Review: Good movie. I kind of felt sorry for the 'father' charactor...he had a non-stop string of bad luck after another. I can't imagine living in a such a dystopic world where, after an asteroid strike, aliens began hunting everywhere and any sound you make, can bring your doom. Hopeful ending, his deaf daughter finds the cure...'out of the mouth of babes'..or rather her ears, a way is found to combat these monsters. If you like horror movies, this should be in your movie collection!
