Scone obsessive Sarah Cleland has gathered 50 scone recipes from National Trust experts around the country, and has written a quirky guide to 50 National Trust places to delight and entertain you while you bake or eat those blissful treats. Eccentric owners, strange treasures, obscure facts—it's all here. Whip up a Triple Chocolate Scone while you read about the mechanical elephants at Waddeston Manor, savor an Apple & Cinnamon Scone while you absorb the dramatic love life of Henry Cecil of Hanbury Hall, or marvel at a Ightham Mote's Grade 1 listed dog kennel while you savor a Cheese, Spring Onion and Bacon Scone. 50 of the best scones in history and 50 of the best places to read about—you’ll never need to leave the kitchen again. Includes dual measures.

Title: Baking & knowledge - great combo!
Review: The recipes look excellent, and the stories about the provenance of the scones are very interesting. I can’t wait to try a few of these and share them with my friends.

Title: Beautifully presented, and the recipes are excellent
Review: I got this to lend to a friend who is a hobby baker, and really good. She'd complained she couldn't quite get the real ENGLISH texture to her scones. This book seems to be doing the trick, and I look forward to testing her experiments! Plus it's a beautiful book, and benefits a worthwhile organization.

Title: Lovely
Review: I bought this scone cookbook while we were on holiday in England. Have since ordered a second copy from Amazon to give to a friend. Nice variety of scone recipes and baking tips. I love that each recipe has a bit about one of the National Trust sites as we have been to quite a few. Highly recommend the Welsh Cheddar Scone recipe. Very good.

Title: Need photos.
Review: Really good book. Only thing is, it has no photos of any of the recipes.I made one of the recipes from the book and they turned out really good. ( walnut maple scone ).

Title: Delightful in every way.
Review: This lovely little book says it has "50 delicious recipes and some crumbs of History." It has yet to disappoint. From the first recipe for "Plain Scones" with its companion article about Tintagel Old Post Office (built over 100 years before Chris Columbus sailed west) to the concluding "Hot Cross Scones," (Mottisfont) this is a fascinating page-turner. Our fam has settled on the Pumpkin Pie Scones as an Autumnal favorite Saturday morning breakfast.Sadly, the correct pronunciation of "scone" is left unsettled.

Title: I'm horrible at baking, but love the stories.....
Review: That's right, I'm a horrible baker, but I love the idea of baking scones. First up was the horseradish scones and they were yummy! There are other scone recipes that I'd like to try, but what I really like about the book are the stories that go with each of the recipes. I saw one review say the writer doesn't provide the yield on recipes. They're there, in the upper right corner of the page. Although the write-up for the book mentions dual measures, I didn't find them in the book. I made sure to have my scale available for weighing ingredients and relied heavily on google for some of the conversions. Over, a great little book that makes me want to visit some of the heritage sites.

Review: Smaller in size than I was expecting, more like a children’s book than a cookbook but the contents seem great and that’s what matters. Really pleased with the variety of scone recipes.
