Take a bite out of the Big Easy with this Cajun cookbook
Just like a big pot of gumbo, New Orleans is a melting pot of cultures and culinary inspirations, from early Creole cuisine and Cajun cooking to the more recent influences of German, Italian, and Vietnamese immigrants. The Best of New Orleans Cookbook captures the spirit of the city with evocative recipes and tales of beloved culinary traditions.
What sets this cookbook apart:
50 iconic recipes―Learn to make some of the city's signature dishes, like Hot Roast Beef Po'Boys, Black-eyed Pea Jambalaya, Beignets, and King Cake. Then wash your meal down with a classic NOLA cocktail, like a Sazerac or a Pimm's Cup.
Learn some lagniappes―A Southern Louisiana colloquialism, lagniappe means "a little something extra." That's exactly what you'll get with every recipe, be it a quick Cajun cooking tip or the history behind a particular dish.
Top 5 travel picks―Experience the city like a local with advice on can't-miss hot spots for breakfast, raw oysters, and happy hour drinks, as well as landmarks and cultural touchstones.
Eat your way through Bourbon Street and beyond with The Best of New Orleans Cookbook.

Invented in 1906 at Central Grocery on Decatur Street in the heart of the French Quarter, this famous sandwich continues to please, with its unique combination of sesame seed round loaf bread, olive salad, sliced salami, ham, mortadella, Swiss, and provolone. It’s good as-is (and great for picnics), but heat it up to melt the cheese and this sandwich really delivers.
Instructions:
1. Cut the Italian loaf in half lengthwise and separate the top and bottom. On the bottom, evenly arrange the salami and ham and top with the mortadella, Swiss, and provolone cheeses.
2. Spread the olive salad over the cheese and follow with the bread top.
3. Cut into four wedges and serve immediately.
Tips:
To serve the sandwich warm, place it on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated 350˚F oven for about 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the top is browned.
Ingredients: 1 round Italian sesame seeded loaf (about 10 inches in diameter) ¼ pound thin-sliced salami ¼ pound thin-sliced ham ¼ pound thin-sliced Swiss cheese ¼ pound thin-sliced mortadella ¼ pound thin-sliced provolone cheese 1½ cups olive salad

Title: Nice Book
Review: This is a super nice book. I bought the spiral edition which is large enough to read easily but not so big to take up your counter space when opened.I was raised in New Orleans so all of this is not new to me. I just wanted a way to have all of these recipes in one place. All of these recipes are good, authentic recipes but the author also covers some modifications you could try and he also covers the history of that particular meal. Add to that he's got a lot more photographs than many of today's cookbooks. When I first opened the package I was a little disappointed at the size of the book. I probably should'nt have been since it clearly says that it only covers 50 recipes but as soon as I started looking at the book I was impressed. It is the best and most useful New Orleans style cookbook that I am familiar with and that's saying something because there are several very good ones. Some of them are classics (anything by Paul Prudhomme). Buy with confidence.

Title: Awesome samples of traditional New Orleans dishes
Review: I am just an average home cook here who was interested in a sampling of New Orleans recipes. I've never reviewed a product on Amazon before, but felt the need to give this little book the credit it deserves since it holds some of my favorite recipes and I've enjoyed using it immensely.I've found this book informative and easy to follow. The little tips, tricks and tidbits of information scattered throughout the book make it and interesting read and give insight into the culture of New Orleans.I have prepared only 3 recipes from this book so far, but each one was absolutely delicious and I've made two of them several times since. The first recipe I tried was Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya. Very tasty dish that I brought to a dinner party and received rave reviews. The pot was empty when I left - it was all eaten up!The next recipe I made was Chicken, Andouille, and Shrimp Gumbo (picture attached). I have to say that I was very nervous about this one since I had never tried making a roux before. I followed the steps exactly and a few hours later had a delicious pot of gumbo. In fact, it was so good I made it every weekend for a month straight. Next time I'm doubling the recipe because everyone asks for a bowl when I make it and I only end up with one bowl for myself! MUST HAVE LEFTOVERS!!Finally, I've made the Crawfish Bread several times (picture attached). The first time I made it, I didn't have any crawfish tails available and substituted shrimp. My daughter (11 years old) said she wished I would make this every day because she didn't want to stop eating it! It is definitely a keeper - both with shrimp and with crawfish. If you want an introduction to New Orleans flavors that gives you a sampling of the most popular dishes, this is a good option. The recipes are easy to follow and it's a conveniently sized paperback book so you don't have to worry about getting your phone/tablet/device dirty while cooking from it!

Title: Great recipes, authentic
Review: I have well over 1000 cookbooks in my personal library. I have several Louisiana style cookbooks such as Brennans, and others but really like this cookbook over some others. Recipes are not complicated, but appear to be authentic NOLA style. I have searched many years for a shrimp creole recipe to my liking. The ingredients seem to be what I was seeking in this specific recipe. Excellent book, nice photos, simple but good recipes on those that I have tried so far. I would recommend if your looking for easy to follow, not time consuming NOLA recipes.

Title: Excellent Source
Review: This book is an excellent source of information on Cajun/Creole cooking for people like me who know little or nothing about it. It includes cultural, historical, and current information that serves the reader very well. I love the information in towards the back of the book for online ordering and the history of the famous bars and restaurants is invaluable. Going to start on the recipes next!

Title: Excellent book! Highly recommend!
Review: The people who complains that there are no pictures on this book obviously donât cook or are not interested to read and try to cook the food recipes that are in here.We donât have pictures in cookbooks back in the day, they donât even give you exact measurements. I learned from my folks who would just tell me what ingredients are needed and then you go from there. You taste your food and if you make a mistake then you do it again from square one. Thatâs how a good cook/chef starts. Recipe books are guides, they are not responsible for your inability to comprehend or cook. I can give my friends recipes to the dot and they will still manage to screw it up. Why? Because thereâs no love and patience to what they do. Thatâs the difference.I can cook and I can easily follow and tweak some of the recipes. But these recipes are good and can be easily followed by an 8 year old whoâs excited to cook and learn. The recipes are straight forward and yes, you can search online for these recipes but I like reading good books and this book I highly recommend to anyone who wants an introduction to Cajun/Creole foods.

Review: I've always been curious of New Orleans food so I bought this recipe book to try and make mine since I don't have access to any.The recipes look good and easy to follow and there is even a bit of history in there which is greatly appreciated. But there are almost no pics and that is kit only appealing to the eye but it also kinda guides you as to what the food should look like. So I've had to look up images of the food so I know what we are talking about.
