Makita is expanding the line of cordless outdoor power equipment to include the 18V X2 (36V) LXT Brushless Cordless 18” Self-Propelled Lawn Mower (XML06PT1). With zero emissions, lower noise and reduced maintenance, the 18V X2 (36V) LXT Cordless Self-Propelled Lawn Mower is a welcome solution for efficient grass cutting.

It’s powered by two 18V LXT batteries. The 4-bay battery system holds 4 batteries for twice the run time, but without leaving the 18V battery platform. The Makita-built motor delivers up to 3, 300 RPM. The Quiet Mode setting reduces noise by providing constant speed control at 2, 500 RPM.

The mower offers ease-of-use features including quick height adjustments, mulching capability, and a commercial-grade steel deck.

The XML06PT1 includes the lawn mower, four fast-charging 18V LXT lithium-ion 5. 0Ah batteries and an efficient 18V Dual Port Rapid Optimum Charger.
The lawn mower features Makita Extreme Protection Technology (XPT ). XPT is a protective seal inside the tool and is engineered for improved operation in harsh conditions by channeling water and dust from key internal components.

It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V LXT System, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V lithium-ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger.

For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls . Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.
No gas, emissions, oil mixing or pull starts with reduced maintenance and low noise levels
Self-propelled with variable speed (1.5 MPH - 3 MPH)
4 bay battery system for 2 times more run time
Powered by (2) 18V LXT batteries with the option to insert (2) additional batteries for extended run time
Commercial-grade steel deck

Title: Really nice design
Review: Keep in mind that I just got this thing. This is not a review based upon years of experience with the mower, just a first impression review. My old mower was an awesome old school snapper and I loved it. That is what I am comparing this mower to.The design elements of this mower are all excellent. The wheels all have sealed cartridge bearings on them. Sounds like a little thing, but it speaks to a larger thing. Everywhere you look on this machine, you see solid mechanical engineering everywhere (and I would know). The way the bag fits, the way that the mulching plug fits, every detail is sweated on this thing. Even the drive mechanism acts like it has a differential allowing it to smoothly turn corners without fighting you, speeding up or slowing down. Little things are only little things until they become a problem and then become a big thing. One of the things I really like is that the drive mechanism can be used with the blades are stopped. This allows you to get it up a steep gravel drive without kicking gravel everywhere and taking the nice sharp edge off your blades.Yeah, there are a few picadilloes here and there that I personally might have done differently or whatever, but most of these are simply changes that really don't make the system better, but just different. Preference items that are just basically opinions. Things like the battery cover doesn't stay up by itself while you try to get all four batteries out of it. I realize they made it want to fall down so it would keep things clean inside and also keep it from being left up. Once I realize I could pull the batteries and line them up on the bag hatch, I realized that I agree with their design. Things like that. The 1% stuff. This thing is heavy, and I mean HEAVY. The box says 99lbs, and about 1lb of that is packaging and containerboard. Clearly the crew that designed it went to the Harley Davidson school for Mechanical Engineers. When it finally fails, you can use it to help anchor your boat in the harbor during a hurricane. You can carry on a conversation with your friends while mowing. Kind of strange in that way. When you put it on quiet mode, it doesn't go all beast mode when you hit some thick grass, but stays at the lower speeds. It is louder than a box fan, but it is quieter than an idling pickup. If you have chickens, they will still irritate you as you mow the grass just like they irritate you when you are walking by the pen.I paid some seriously long green for this mower, but this thing quietly screams quality. I suspect that by the time I get my money out of it, nobody will be wanting a review of an ancient mower that time will have forgotten. If it is like all of the other Makita tools I have (some are 20 years old, some are nearly new), I might just expire before this thing does. All I know is that this thing really impressed me coming out of the box.Heck yeah I would empty the checkbook again on another one of these if I had to. I would still whine and carry on about the cost, but I would likely end up giving myself an attaboy later. This thing is pretty cool.

Title: solid performer
Review: I like that the LXT battery power system in this unit is used by over 270 Makita products. The mower itself was easy to assemble, is reliable and easy to use. an 18" cutting swath is a little smaller than usual, and the lid to the battery compartment doesn't stay open when swapping batteries in and out (which is a bit annoying). I also like that this one has an aluminum deck--it's not made of plastic. Unfortunately, it's not collapsible, so it does take up a fair bit of space. As for the batteries, the ills they suffer from are typical of any battery system--extreme temperatures may sap their performance quicker, and really heavy cutting can put a load on the system, draining it more quickly as well. All in all though, I'm happy with it.

Title: falls short
Review: Here’s my level of expertise, I have been mowing my own lawn with various GAS lawn mowers for 40 plus years. I have been mowing the lawn at my current house for 27 years. here in so cal I usually mow once a week in the growing season . During those 27 years there have been times that I have gone 2 weeks and even 3 weeks between cuts . I am a loyal Makita tool guy. I bought my first makita tool in 1983. I also own a few Dewalt. At this point in time 90% of all my power tools are battery powered ( cordless) The main reason I switched from gas to electric was the noise , the gas itself , carburetor issues, and tune ups etc. The machine is very solid, well built, well engineered, no disappointments in that department. The problem is it is ALWAYS on power saver mode and spins at a lower RPM and it takes it up to the high RPM mode only when a heavy load is sensed. In this low RPM mode there is very little lift or “suction” created to stand the grass blades up to get a clean cut . ( very similar to a hair stylist using a comb to lift hair before he cuts it) Also in this low rpm ( power saver mode) the ability to vacuum leaves is greatly diminished . Here’s the kicker you can not override this power saver mode … However , there is a button to engage what is called “ low noise mode “ . In this mode the machine stays in low rpm mode 100% of the time and will bog or turn off if it hits a heavy load. Am I missing something ??? So I read the entire manual twice and there it was in clear print . “Do not try to cut long grass all at once . Instead, mow the lawn in steps. Leave a day or two between mowings until the lawn becomes evenly short. “ I wonder if Makita used any landscapers to test the mower ... In my opinion Makita is placing the emphasis on extending the life of the batteries instead of mowing the lawn . There should be a button to override the power saver mode and and let the operator worry about changing out dead batteries for fresh batteries. This mower is a beast it is capable of ramping up to high RPM and slicing and dicing whatever is thrown at it . There is a lag between the transition into “ beast Mode” . and it shows in the uneven cut. ( the vast majority of the time it will remain in power saver mode ) At an $800 price point this mower falls short. The word “ commercial” in the description only refers to the deck. Because I am committed to going electric I will keep this mower and learn to deal with its limitations.
