Gary Ezzo and pediatrician Robert Bucknam, M.D. are two of the world's leading experts on baby sleep and feeding patterns. Millions of new mothers across the globe are coming toward this new brand at an increasing pace as they find and share the life changing success they are achieving with their newborns. This updated Anniversary edition celebrates 30 years with Ezzo and Bucknam's groundbreaking approach which has found favor with over six million parents in all 50 states and has been translated into 23 languages around the world.
For 30 years, On Becoming Babywise has been the de facto newborn parenting manual for naturally synchronizing your baby's feeding time, waketime and nighttime sleep cycles, so the whole family can sleep through the night.
Gary Ezzo and pediatrician Robert Bucknam M.D. demonstrate how order and stability are mutual allies of every newborn's. metabolism and how parents can take advantage of these biological propensities. In particular, they note how an infant's body responds to the influences of parental routine or the lack thereof.
Early chapters start with explorations of everyday aspects of infant management such as the three basic elements of daytime activities for newborns: feeding time, waketime, and naptime. Practical discussions then focus on broad and niche topics including feeding philosophies, baby sleep problems, baby scheduling challenges, nap routines, sleep training multiples, baby sleeping props, Colic and Reflux and many other dimensions which impact breast feeding schedules, bottle feeding tips, and baby sleeping training.
Five resource Appendixes provide additional reference material: 1) Taking care of baby and mom 2) A timeline of what to expect and when 3)Baby Sleep Training Problems and Solutions 4)Monitoring Your Baby's Growth 5) Healthy Baby Growth Charts On Becoming Babywise is more than an infant-management concept. It is a mindset for successful parenthood. It can help any parent develop a plan that meets both the needs of a new baby and of the entire family. These principles have worked for millions of parents and, when applied with common sense to your unique situation, can work wonderfully for you too! Recommended by doctors across the country.

Title: This book and method will change your life!
Review: If you live in the United States, you probably know parents who have not slept in years, who hobble through their child's infant and toddler years just barely hanging on because no one is getting adequate rest and they think that this is inevitable or normal. I was not willing to do that. We began using this method around week 3-4 of my son's life and this method is an absolute lifesaver for a first-time mom. I ended up buying the audio book and listening to it several times. My son was sleeping through the night by 8 weeks and giving us 10-12 hour stretches by 12 weeks after following this method. I can't tell you how good it is for my marriage and sanity to be getting adequate rest and now to be able to have a few hours of quiet adult time with my husband or even alone time before going to bed. It's life-changing. I can actually enjoy interacting with my son and spending time with him for the last month of my maternity leave because we laid the ground work in the beginning. My son is healthy and thriving, and there is also peace in our home. He is a genuinely happy and delightful baby because he is well-fed (and his metabolism is well-regulated from following a consistent routine) and well-rested. He can sleep anywhere and falls asleep on his own after being placed in bed awake because we started the training from the beginning. We can take a one-night romantic trip away and not feel guilty leaving him with a grandparent because he sleeps through the night now, every night.People enjoy being around him in public because he's delightful and can lay quietly in his stroller or entertain himself without us holding him all day without screaming all of the time (of course all babies cry, but we've learned how to promptly assess and address this). My marriage is doing well because both parents are well-rested and there is peace in our home. I have heard this book/method is controversial and read some of the criticisms (not sure most of the critics even read the book, or at least not the most recent version). Ask yourself one simple question: which families, marriages, and babies are well-rested, happy, and thriving? This method truly works.

Title: Life changing
Review: My 8 week old baby wouldnât sleep during the day, at all. I was struggling and was going to give up on everything. I didnât know what to do. I read this book and contacted OBBW and they set me up with a contact mom who walked me through how to implement everything. I was so sleep deprived I didnât even know how to begin! Iâm so thankful for Baby Wise and my contact mom. It saved my life, and my baby is a perfect sleeper now. She was sleeping 12 hours a night by 4 months old. Now sheâs a year old and has no problems with sleep. Sheâs such a good sleeper and eater, I couldnât ask for a more. She is so happy and intelligent and we have an amazing connection. Itâs all because of Baby Wise. Donât hesitate. If you are having problems, contact them, and they will help you! I should also mention I tried the Taking Cara Babies method and it did NOT work, I also tried the Moms on Call method and it also did NOT work. Baby Wise is the godfather of sleep training and has been around for 30 years. These knock off versions are not it. Baby Wise was the only thing that worked for me. Iâm so thankful for Baby Wise!!

Title: Very Informative
Review: We just had a baby and this book has given so much guidance and practical tips for how to get a baby to sleep.-It give examples of babyâs sleep schedule from newborn until at least 2 years of age.-It gives reasons why a baby may not be sleeping well and tips on what to do about it.-Itâs a great reference to where your baby should be at a certain age.-Gives tips on when to feed and when baby should sleep. This helped navigate specifically the newborn stage where I was lost on what kind of a schedule my baby might have. This is such a fantastic reference for what those early months and beyond should/could look like! I would highly recommend!

Title: she's 24 now, once a babywise baby, and values her sleep like no other 24 year old
Review: Someone recommended this book to me when I was pregnant many moons ago and I read it before my daughter was born and of course then promptly forgot about the book. A few weeks after she was born and I was completely exhausted, I remembered the book and started implementing it. What a drastic change! I had this baby, a snacker by nature (if she had it her way, she'd have about an ounce an hour), and turned her around with a schedule that worked so well it made her into a great sleeper. She learned to love being in her crib and later when she was 2-3 would let me know when it was time for her nap. These guys know what they're talking about. Also, as I remember they seem to promote it in a breast feeding way which I never did. So just know you can substitute bottle for breast and it still works! This is my go-to gift for new parents. Some kids learn to sleep through the night naturally but I'm convinced mine never would have and I really feel that this book gave her such a great gift. Kids love structure and schedule and are at their best when they get the proper amount of sleep. I've always been a big believer that a person can't achieve their best if they don't get proper sleep. I'm a doctor and now my babywise baby is getting her PharmD! Be prepared that you have to let the little one cry a little but it is SO worth it!

Title: HIGHLY recommended!
Review: I used this book for my 3rd daughter when it was first published 30 years ago! I had breastfed my first two kids around the clock for months. Needing order in the family, and as a NICU nurse who understands babies, I wanted to try something different. This method worked so well, and I had a great milk supply! There is a gentle and loving and orderly progression toward regulating sleep and digestion. Just bought two to give as gifts!

Review: It will be criticised of course, but this is so helpful to cut through the "feed them whenever they cry" culture that so many new mums are bombarded with today. I give it to every pregnant friend, because every mum I know who's tried this approach (including me) has had babies that slept through the night at a reasonable age, and those that didn't, haven't and were utterly exhausted. That's evidence enough for me!

Review: I am appalled at how unfriendly the advice in this book is for babies. Everything is centered around "how to make your baby adapt to you" instead of working with your baby to figure him or her out.The advice given here did NOT help my baby sleep. It did the very opposite: the advice when followed is DISRUPTIVE to baby's sleep more than helpful. It also paints parenting as rigid - not even an adult would follow a strict schedule like that all the time.Save your money, and stay away from all this "Babywise" nonsense (including bloggers who proclaim this works).
