Wretched books from miserable author Lemony Snicket
In the tradition of great storytellers, from Dickens to Dahl, comes an exquisitely dark comedy that is both literary and irreverent, hilarious and deftly crafted. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are intelligent children. They are charming, and resourceful, and have pleasant facial features. Unfortunately, they are exceptionally unlucky. If you haven't got the stomach for a story that includes a hurricane, a signalling device, hungry leeches, cold cucumber soup, a horrible villain, and a doll named Pretty Penny, then this book will probably fill you with despair. The pages of this book, I'm sorry to inform you, contain such unpleasantries as a giant pincher machine, a bad casserole, a man with a cloud of smoke where his head should be, a hypnotist, a terrible accident resulting in injury, and coupons. As the three Baudelaire orphans warily approach their new home Prufrock Preparatory School, they can't help but notice the enormous stone arch bearing the school's motto Memento Mori or "Remember you will die." In their most daring misadventure, the Baudelaire orphans are adopted by very, very rich people, whose penthouse apartment is located mysteriously close to the place where all their misfortune began.

I can think of no single reason why anyone would want to open a book containing such unpleasant matters as migrating crows, an angry mob, a newspaper headline, the arrest of innocent people, the Deluxe Cell, and some very strange hats. The Baudelaires need a safe place to stay—somewhere far away from terrible villains and local police. A quiet refuge where misfortune never visits. Might Heimlich Hospital be just the place? For the Baudelaire orphans, their time at the carnival turns out to be yet another episode in a now unbearable series of unfortunate events. In fact, in this installment, the siblings must confront a terrible lie, a caravan, and Chabo the wolf baby. The tenth book in this outrageous publishing effort features more than the usual dose of distressing details, such as snow gnats, an organised troupe of youngsters, and an evil villain with a dastardly plan. The intrepid siblings delve further into the dark mystery surrounding the death of their parents and the baffling VFD organisation. Lemony Snicket returns with the last book before the last book of his bestselling A Series of Unfortunate Events. Scream and run away before the secrets of the series are revealed!

The thirteenth and final installment in the groundbreaking series will answer readers' most burning questions: Will Count Olaf prevail? Will the Baudelaires survive? Will the series end happily? Answers questions about Lemony Snicket, author of the distressing serial concerning the trials of the charming but unlucky Baudelaire orphans. Some boxes should never be opened. For the first time, the complete A Series of Unfortunate Events is available in one awful package! In this perplexing murder mystery from New York Times bestselling author Lemony Snicket, everyone seems to have a motive, everyone has an alibi, and nearly everyone is a musical instrument. But the composer is still dead. This is a story about a lump of coal who can think, talk, and move itself around. Is there a more charming holiday tale to behold? Probably, but Lemony Snicket has not written one.

Title: love this series
Review: "The End," the final installment in Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events," provides a fitting and thought-provoking conclusion to the tumultuous journey of the Baudelaire orphans. Throughout the series, readers have followed Violet, Klaus, and Sunny through countless misfortunes and encounters with the villainous Count Olaf, all while uncovering the mysterious organization known as V.F.D.In this concluding book, the Baudelaires find themselves stranded on an island, confronting their ultimate fate and seeking answers to the series' lingering questions. Snicket's narrative style remains as engaging as ever, blending dark humor with moments of profound reflection on themes of loss, resilience, and the complexities of morality. What sets "The End" apart is its exploration of ambiguity and the uncertainties of lifeâa departure from traditional children's literature endings. Snicket challenges readers to contemplate the nature of closure and the possibility of finding meaning amid adversity.Overall, "The End" is a poignant and satisfying conclusion to a series that has captivated readers of all ages with its clever wordplay, intricate plot twists, and memorable characters. It solidifies Lemony Snicket's legacy as a master storyteller who isn't afraid to delve into the darker aspects of human experience while imparting valuable lessons about hope and perseverance.

Title: A happy ending it is not, but don't just skip it either (SPOILERS FOR ASOUE NETFLIX FINALE AND #12)
Review: Beware I am going off of the Netflix show with this opinion (it's why I got this version specifically) but WOW, what an ending for a creepy and intriguing series! If you went into this series by reading The Bad Beginning wondering where this was going to end, you never would've expected it ended here, I guarantee you! After The Penultimate Peril ended with the Hotel Denouement burned to the ground and the Baudelaires end up back in Count Olaf's arms in a yacht, they drift through the ocean to a tropical island shaped like the eye tattoo found on Olaf's ankle. With the island as protective and watchful as the VFD over the Baudelaires, the four learn that the island is a locked gateway trapped by coasts and storms and they can't leave it. So, in the last stand, and an unexpected island visitor pregnant and dying, the Baudelaires must confront the secrets of the past and Olaf must confront his vulnerability when he might actually seem like he can get a happy ending. But, of course, this isn't a story of happy endings, that's just not how the story goes....If you've paid attention all the way up to this point, this will feel satisfying and even a bit happy of an ending, too. I watched the entire Netflix series and I felt like I experienced something after the final shot of Snicket meeting the Baudelaires' adopted little girl they named Beatrice after their mother as a 12-year-old in a tea shop. Are the answers to this story satisfying? Well, kind of. As I said before, you would NOT expect the series to end here going off of the first book. They feel like there's still so much more to answer but it kind of makes sense, too, and I really teared up at the strong arcs of everyone, even Olaf, during the last few chapters. It's so heartbreaking but it also leaves a bit of hope, too. I liked the way this ended and it really brings Violet, Klaus and Sunny closure after Olaf confesses his feelings to Kit and dies a good man afterwards due to the harpoon strike. It feels fitting for an ending and it does still leave it ambiguous whether or not the Baudelaires survived after The End or not, though potentially revealed in Chapter Fourteen, the book's epilogue. I recommend it for fans and readers of this series, although I regret to warn you if you are interested in stories with happy endings, then you would be better off somewhere else because in this climactic story, there is no happy ending, there is no happy beginning and very few happy things in the middle. I'm sorry to tell you this, but that's how the story goes.

Title: Good Series, Good Book, More questions
Review: I started reading these books about a year before "The Slippery Slope" came out. I have read the entire series, which are the best books I have ever read in my life. Lemony Snicket, (well the real author of the series is Daniel Handler), but he uses Lemony Snicket because the false name is actually a character in the book. Anyways, I read "The End" from the beggining to, well, to the end(no pun intended:). I liked the Island theme, and the new characters This book was the best I have ever read, beating Harry Potter. The end of "The End" was a cliffhanger, as you would expect from Mr. Handler(Snicket) would write. The whole reason the end of "The End" is a cliffhanger is that the moral of the entire series is that answers will only lead to more questions, which is stated in the book many times, and is the outcome, more questions. All in all,I give this book a four, because the moral left me a little sad that I might never know the fate of some characters, but, Mr Handler(Snicket) might just have another book in his typewriter, just waiting to be published..........

Review: After so many adventures it was time to give those series an end. This one is quite satisfactory one. Some fans are a little too demanding. It isn't perfect, but there is not a perfect end so enjoy this one.I've got books 2-12 on Audible, but this one, the 13th, wasn't on Audible, so hopefully I've got this CD version. Now it's time to wait for Netflix season 2 and continue enjoying this classic adventure.PS: If you don't know yet the Baudelaires, please start with book 1 and enjoy of 13 books.
