Title: A Nice Budget Selection of Fifteen Classic Short Stories
Review: This collection is a very basic presentation of fifteen classic short stories presented for reading on the Kindle. Are they the "Best Short Stories of All Time"? Some Marketing hyperbole that is, but I will say that they are very good. I've purchased this collection and several others so that I would have a variety of stories to read on my Kindle, and I also wanted to try out some of the products available from Amazon that are modestly priced. The format of this Kindle book is quite minimal, offering only a table of contents and then the stories themselves. If you are wanting each story to be accompanied by an explanation or introduction, or are interested in the publication history of the story or the translation provided (if the work is translated), then you will not find that with this particular collection. It does include a very brief generic biography for each author at the end of the book. Most importantly however, the stories themselves have been very nicely selected, and represent a short collection of some very high quality works by very notable authors. I have all three of these "Best Short Stories of All Time" collections, and I consider this Volume II to be the best selection of the three volumes offered on Amazon. The stories included are:1. The Lady, or the Tiger? Frank R. Stockton-- The famous fable about a man who, having been found romancing the King's daughter, is sentenced to the public arena where he must chose between two doors, behind one is a tiger and the other is a beautiful lady-in-waiting (but not the daughter who he loves).2. The Nose, Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol-- famous satirical story about a nose that develops a life of its own.3. The Witch, Anton Chekhov4. Cannibalism in the Cars, Mark Twain5. The Great God Pan, Arthur Machen-- This is more a novella than a short story, and is a classic of the horror genre (Stephen King is quoted as calling it "Maybe the best (horror story) in the English Language".6. The Doll's House, Katherine Mansfield7. A Psychological Shipwreck, Ambrose Bierce8. Luck, Mark Twain9. The Game of Billiards, Alphonse Daudet10. The Hollow of the Three Hills, Nathaniel Hawthorne-- From his "Twice-Told Tales", one of the most famous stories from that collection11. The Exact Science of Matrimony, O. Henry12. The Gift of the Magi, O. Henry-- The classic short story13. The Yellow Wallpaper, Charlotte Perkins Gilman-- This is Gilman's most famous work, frequently included in collections of women's literature14. The Open Boat, Stephen Crane-- Crane was en route to Cuba to cover the Spanish-American war when his boat sank off the coast of Florida, leaving his adrift in a dinghy for several days. This experience was the basis for this short story.15. The Jelly-Bean, F. Scott Fitzgerald-- Included in the collection "Tales of the Jazz Age" (note that not all reprints of that collection of short stories include the same selection of stories. This story was in the original collection published in 1922).As mentioned earlier, at the end of the book there is a section giving short biographies of the authors - a few paragraphs on each, nothing more than the briefest of outlines on when and where they were born and very short descriptions of their life and major works.Recognize that all of these stories are available in various places at no cost with a small amount of effort (do a Google search and you'll have them in seconds). So that is an alternative. Purchasing them in this collection saves that effort and is a convenience, and my conclusion is that this is a very good quality selection of stories, most of which are among the best by the authors selected. For a penny less than a dollar, this is a reasonable value. I give this four stars because these are public domain stories, the selection of 15 stories is not particularly generous (even though it is better than Vol. I which included only 12 stories, and Vol. III which included 11 stories), and only the minimal required effort has been put into packaging these stories into this Kindle e-book. The stories themselves are five star worthy.

Title: Slow But Okay
Review: I started reading but honestly had to put down for awhile. The stories are good but move rather slowly. If you are in real need of something to read this is the book for you.

Title: Broader Choices than Vol I
Review: The last entry I particularly enjoyed. Full of wit and humor. A wider choice of literary styles. A few entries are required reading in most university level intro to literature courses; Others are hidden treasures. Enjoy!

Review: Worth while & at a great price. Certainly exceed the usual junk offered by amazon's 'unlimited' library. The content is certainly superior and there is editing !

Title: More Fairy Tales than Short Stories
Review: This is not to dismiss the art of storytelling through fairy tales with a moral. The problem is that this book isn't titled appropriately. For someone like me, looking for what was/is considered the best abbreviated literature in history, it doesn't fit the bill. For someone else, who loves to collect and read what are most likely called FABLES, it's a shame he/she will probably miss this perfect gem. Not bad, but not what I thought I was getting.

Review: There are some great stories here and some not so great stories too.. Perhaps the title is slightly misleading, but The Nose by Gogol and the Open boat by Crane are so good that's it's worth getting..
