Title: Sex and the City on Blu-ray!
Review: I was initially against a continuation of the runaway hit HBO series, Sex and the City - The Complete Series (Collector's Giftset) I felt that the season finale was perfection and any other stories to be told would only spoil it. Once the movie started though, I was drawn in and it felt great to see these "familiar" friends again: Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis). Carrie and Mr. Big (Chris Noth) decide to tie the knot, and the movie revolves around how their relationship takes the next step. Meanwhile, Miranda and Steve are dealing with Miranda neglecting their relationship. Samantha has become an L.A. housewife and is none too happy about continually playing second-fiddle to Smith. Charlotte...well, she is just living a perfect life with adopted daughter and husband Harry. The movie continues the vision of the series: insightful, witty, and extremely well written. Jennifer Hudson has a nice supporting role as Carrie's personal assistant; she brings sass to her role and definitely leaves the door open for a possibility of a "next generation" of young hopeful women to hit New York City. My gripes? I felt that fashion played too much of a role; in the TV series, it was a nice semi-silent costar. In the movie, it was a little "in your face" and over the top. I also felt that Samantha's storyline seemed a little out of character and contrived; her supposed weight gain was minimal and for her to ever stay in the background for Smith just seemed out of step. Many original cast members returned for the movie, although some were absolutely wasted as they were relegated to non-speaking cameos. For some reason, Stanford & Anthony are now close friends (possibly even more), which is totally against how they were in the series. Obviously, much has happened in the years since we last saw them; it left a feeling that an explanation scene or two must be on the cutting room floor. Removal of some of the fashion stuff and putting back in more of the witty dialogue would have benefitted the movie greatly. Speaking of putting back in...yes, this version is an extended cut. Many scenes have been lengthened, and it definitely helps give the movie a more finished feel and explains much that I thought was missing in the theater. Extra fun is Carrie's fashion show in her apartment, where she tries on many of her 1980's bad outfits for the girls, who rate whether the outfits should be kept or tossed. In the extended cut, ALL the girls (including Charlotte's daughter Lily) join in the fun and try on the outfits. This is especially wonderful as SJP does not necessarily deserve the lion's share of credit for this successful series; it is definitely an ensemble cast. The restored Halloween scene of Harry as The Addams Family's Uncle Fester is not to be missed, either!Still, I saw it twice on the big screen - thoroughly entertained both times, and hoping for a follow-up!The picture on the blu-ray is wonderful, with one exception. Just like the promotional photos for the movie, the actress' eye area is WAAAAAY over photoshopped/CGI enhanced to the point that they look unnatural. This is especially the case for Sarah Jessica Parker. The CGI work is not done well, as it changes from shot to shot, and looks fake to begin with. The sound mix is fantastic too, especially with a system that takes advantage of it.Bonus features for Blu-ray version:* Audio Commentary by director Michael Patrick King* Additional Scenes restored to the actual movie as well as a separate section with deleted scenes that feature commentary by Michael Patrick King as to why they were cut.* A Conversation with Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael Patrick King: a nice look at the movie with SJP and MPK, giving further insight into many of the choices made for the movie.* The Fabulous Fashion of Sex And The City: Excellent featurette with Patricia Fields discussing how she finds all the different fashions for the character. Not one to get caught up in labels, her talent is for mixing up totally different looks and creating magic.* Fergie in the Studio: watch a hit in the making as the singer records Labels or Love for the movie soundtrack, interspersed with Fergie fawning over the original TV series. A short featurette but cool to watch nonetheless.* Blu-ray Exclusive Content:Interactive Features (Games) -* Sex and the City: The City. Click on different areas of the city and select a corresponding clip from the movie that talks about fashion, entertainment, etc. Nice idea, but does take a little bit of patience and navigation work. Think Google Map!* Dish It!: Pop-ups of trivia and info will appear while you watch the movie if this is selected. Very fun!Technical specs: 151-min. extended cut on a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p video (1.85:1) and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio (English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and English and Spanish subtitles).

Title: Coming from a husband of a wife who just adores "Sex and the City", I enjoyed it a lot!
Review: SEX AND THE CITY THE MOVIE was definitely a highly anticipated film of 2008. A lot of my female friends and guy friends are fans of the HBO television series and even my wife was so hardcore that she and her female friends would have viewing parties every night the new episodes were shown. For me, I've always enjoyed the series for it's in-depth look at love and relationships via the women's perspective, as much as I loved BBC America's look at love and relationships via the comedy "Coupling".The series definitely took on a variety of topics, especially of how it related to the characters and the topics of love and sex were just hilarious, emotional and overall uplifting. With the highly anticipated film reuniting the women four years since the series, we see Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), who has three successful books on love and still dating and very much love with Mr. Big (Chris Noth). The two are in the next step of their relationship about to move into an awesome apartment with an awesome closet but most of all, the two finally ready to tie the knot.Samantha (Kim Cattrall) living in Hollywood to manage her model/boyfriend's career and missing New York City. Samantha is missing her former life of having fun and being the center of attention. For Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Charlotte and husband are still happy and raising their adoptive daughter. And Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), very busy with her job as a lawyer and as a parent but at the same time, somewhat neglecting her wife duties.Without spoiling the storylines for each of these women, throw in some major wrenches to the lives of these women and you definitely get one sensational story about love, finding love, losing love and most of all to see the friendships of these four women tested.Like the show, you get beautiful scenes of New York City and the beautiful settings. Also, the interesting and at times outlandish but most of the time elegant fashion courtesy of costume designer Patricia Field. Also, the musical setting of hearing Mairi Campbell's "Auld Lange Syne" to Run DMC's "Walk this Way" and various music as it plays an emotional and enjoyable setting for the various segments of the film. But what makes this movie work is the well written storyline by Michael Patrick King who knows how to really balance each of the women's storylines but effectively writes a film that not only will women enjoy it but also men.I have to give credit to another woman on the show who actually plays a significant role on the film. Jennifer Hudson's character as an assistant to Carrie Bradshaw definitely added a cool character component as a woman also looking for love in New York City, rents her designer bags but most of all, how she helps Carrie through a difficult time.Nearly every character from the TV series had such an important role although I was surprised Stanford (Willie Garson) didn't have that many lines.SPECIAL FEATURES:There are various versions of this DVD from the two-disc set and also the Blu-Ray editions which feature may special features. This widescreen edition only features director's commentary by Michael Patrick King."SEX AND THE CITY: THE MOVIE" works on all levels. Perhaps, maybe moreso for fans of the TV series who are familiar of the background of the women and also the supporting characters. But everything comes together...the storyline, the setting, the fashion, the music...everything that the series is known for, you see it in a much extravagant form in this film.An enjoyable film that is easily a must-own for "Sex and the City" fans.

Review: First of all I have to mention that I bought this DVD second hand in used very good condition and the disc came immaculate from Zoverstocks, but the case was a little scuffed I paid less than half the price of the new copy and I'm very pleased and trust the seller.THE BLU RAY IS OF BETTER QUALITY THAN THE DVD.Now I give this a five star rating because as being a massive fan of the series I was excited to see the movie again. This was shipped and arrived very quickly so the first thing I did was stick it in my PS3 and watch. It's a very long film, around three hours in total so it's not for a quick watch you need to sit down at it it's a long story. The story follows Carrie Bradshaw in New York during the build up to her wedding with John James Preston (Big) she originally chooses what would be the right wedding but vogue asks her to do '40' and cover it as the last single girl, she is given a Vivienne Westwood dress for free and instead of her suit chooses to wear this one. Miranda (still married to Steve) hits a rocky patch and they end up separated, she tells Big he would be crazy to get married causing him to leave the wedding. Carrie and her friends continue to Mexico where Charlotte gets travellers diarrhea after swallowing the water even after trying to avoid it with pudding. When they return Carrie goes back to her old life, I was slightly surprised that she actually went back the way she was so depressed and miserable all the time, Carrie Bradshaw in this state over a man?! shocking. But she gets a PA and in time still does not get over big, eventually they get back together along with Miranda and Steve after Charlotte finds out she's pregnant with baby Rose. In the end as predicted, Carrie does marry Big in a very simple ceremony in her suit. All in all an excellent watch, very fun and one of my favourites. Definitely worth the money.

Mein Tipp:Sex And The City: Das offizielle Buch zum FilmSex and the City - Kiss and Tell. Das einzige offizielle Buch zur Kultserie
