Title: Quiet and seemingly runs forever
Review: I was looking for a shredder to replace my very old GBC Shredmaster strip-cut shredder, which was adequate for low security work, but left the papers easily reassembled and only ran for less than 10 minutes before needing to cool down. I chose the Aurora AU1210MA based on a recent Consumer Reports review which rated it a 70 vs. the Fellowes Powershred LX22M at 89, but the latter costs more than three times as much and only has a 30 minute run time vs. the Aurora's 60 minutes. The only other higher scorers were the Tru Red TR-NMC122A (scoring 72), which was about the same price and was rated slightly better for noise but it has a 5 minute run time followed by a 60 minute cool-down, and the Amazon Basics 8 sheet Microcut (scoring 71), costing quite a bit less, but it also has a 5 minute run time (with a 30 minute recovery period). The Aurora arrived very well-packaged in a sturdy box with tight-fitting cardboard inserts that completely protected it from damage. It was not inside of a second box, and there was no need for one. It was easy to assemble and was more compact than I expected it to be. It weighs about 22 lbs, most of which is in the shredding head. The wheels make it easy to move around. I'm not sure if it would work with shredder bags, due to the bin layout, but I'm emptying it into a 30 gallon paper lawn/leaf bag so I can meet my county's requirements for curbside recycling of shredded documents, which prohibit plastic bags. The large opening of these paper bags makes it easy to empty the bin without spilling any confetti.I've now been shredding old records containing sensitive information like Social Security numbers for several days and this is what I've noticed: the Aurora has never stopped working, despite some long shredding sessions and some thick sheafs of paper, and it has yet to jam. I've nearly filled a 30 gallon bag. It is very quiet, despite Consumer Reports rating it as a 3/5. My only minor complaint is that the bin isn't quite as sturdy as the rest of the unit, and requires a bit of care when reinstalling to make sure it is aligned properly so it will close completely. One thing I noticed from reading the owner's manual is that it can be oiled using ordinary vegetable oil -- no need to buy special purpose shredder lube or pre-treated sheets. That should save money over the long run. I've not oiled it yet, since it's just a few days old. I have shredded some stapled documents with no problems. I haven't tried any credit cards or CDs yet.I think that this shredder will give me many years of service and I'm very happy with my purchase. While I would have loved to own CR's highest-scoring unit, I couldn't justify spending around $400 for it and I really appreciate that the Aurora has the best rated endurance of any of the models I considered.

Title: Could not be better!
Review: This shredder is reasonably priced for what it does. I used to shred many documents and I have found it to be flawless. The window shows how full the bin is. The easy pull out drawer makes emptying the bin a breeze. The shredder is quiet and does the job every time. I have not had any jams. I used it to shred multiple pages as well as one credit card. I can't imagine how a moderatly priced shredder could perform any better than this excellent shredder. I recommend this product whole heartedly.

Title: PERFECT
Review: I'm in love. I reviewed this before I purchased it. It is amazing. I am being gentle, 4 sheets only at a time. I am not putting staples in it. The paper is nicely chopped. The blades do not bunch up with paper. It's quiet. The light will come on and the machine will stop when the bin is full. I love the big pull out paper bin and easy to empty. I did not oil it at all. I went 10 -15 minutes and no burn out....I checked with my recycling center and they will take it as long as it is in a brown paper bag marked Shredded. Worth the money, never go cheap.....

Title: works great but....
Review: Shredder works great but makes a mess when emptying. Nice to have the confetti vs. the shreds (contrary to popular belief, shredded paper is NOT recyclable as it clogs up the machines at the recycling plant.)

Title: Heavy duty home shredding
Review: The Aurora AU1210MA is a microshredder that doesn't jam and has a long continuous run time.I had been using an inexpensive 5-sheet crosscut shredder, which began to jam because the crosscuts weren't effective, and the thin continuous strips that were produced curled and fed themselves back into the shredder blades. I had about 20 book boxes of tax returns, receipts and other various documents to shred, so I bought the Aurora AU1210MA, in part because of the 60-minute continuous run time.A note on assembly. When inserting the four wheels into the base of the machine, with the machine inverted, I found that simply pressing on the wheel required a lot of force. When I pressed directly on the post, it was easy to push the wheel assembly into the post hole. Pressing on the wheel itself tends to misalign the post and the post hole. The instructions that came with the machine advised that it would handle staples and small paper clips, but that large paper clips should be removed to save wear on the blades. It also advised oiling the blades at least every 30 minutes of run time, using "basic vegetable, cooking oil or shredder oil" (don’t use flammables, especially aerosols; search the internet for examples of what can happen). I bought a bottle of Aurora shredder oil, mostly for the dispenser bottle (the spout is a flip spout and the opening small enough to avoid much dripping). The instructions warn: "Never shred large paper clips, window or insulated envelopes, continuous forms, newsprint, bound pages (for example: notepads, checkbooks, magazines, etc...), transparencies, laminated documents, cardboard, any items with adhesives, hard materials or plastic (except Credit Cards and CDs)." Which boils down to "shred only paper, avoiding newspapers, glues and metal". Continuous form paper shreds just fine, but I expect trying to feed unseparated continuous form paper will cause a problem because it will get out of alignment and fold against the edges of the feed slit. I also didn’t try to shred the corrugated cardboard book boxes which contained the records, which anyway probably wouldn’t have fit the feet slit.Figuring to extend the life of the blades, I oiled as recommended, removed all staples, paper clips , metal, and envelopes, and fed no more than 3 to 6 pages at a time (12-sheets is the stated maximum, but if a batch goes in misaligned, it may fold over, so 7 pages could become more like 14).I shredded all 20 boxes over a period of about two weeks, producing somewhere in the vicinity of 60 cubic feet of shreds. I never experienced a jam or overheating, but the machine got frequent rests while I organized the next batch and removed staples and paperclips. Still, I ran 80 to 100 sheets through it in a single run. I would guess I could run a ream of paper through it in one run.The noise level is low, although sufficient maybe to hide a ringing phone or conversation in another room. There is a several second delay after paper is inserted before the cutters start. The machine shuts off when it is full, although you can shake it to settle the shreds and it will resume again until the cutoff point is reached. The removable bin has a handle that balances nicely. Don’t press down on the top front of the machine when removing the bin; the cabinet flexes enough to interfere with removal. When reinserting the bin, it helps to tip the bin back a bit and visually align the bottom wheels on the back of the bin with the tracks in the bottom of the bin opening. Reinsertion is a smooth operation unless the bin is misaligned. To remove staples, I tore off the stapled corner, or used a staple removed and a pair of needle-nose pliers. This generally took more time than the actual shredding. In the instructions, Aurora warrants against defects of materials and workmanship in the cutting cylinders for five years and for one year for all else.I’d suggest you download and read the user manual before purchase. It’s available on the manufacturer’s web site.

Review: This is by far the best shredder we have ever purchased. The lower level type (cheaper ones) would stop working after a lot of shredding. The small ones do have their limitations. This machine has a good basket size, shreds paper into very small pieces, have an automatic feeder which is great, and takes quite a few sheet of paper at a time. We usually did about 6 sheets at a time as the paper we use is quite thick (states it can do 12). Its not very noisy... its a shredder so of course there is some level of noise. Have used it multiple times now and ran it close to an hour each time we used it and no jamming, overheating or stopping. Very good product and would highly recommend. (we are also applying the oil (vegetable oil) to the shredder blades as recommended in the instructions, to ensure we properly maintain it).
