Title: This Slow/Multi Cooker Has It All (5- Stars)
Review: One of the things I hate about some slow cooker recipes is the need to sauté or brown something before putting it in, thus necessitating using an extra pot. This Hamilton Beach cooker embraces that need because you can sauté and brown right in the pan. And because you can sauté in the pan, that means you can also use it as an electric skillet. It has the ability to roast, steam, and cook rice/grains. Although I will use this primarily as a slow cooker, it's nice to have those other options.I've tried enough slow cookers to know that this HB performs above most. Not only can you select the exact cooking time and heat level (low or high), but it switches to warm mode for up to four hours after the time is complete. No more continued cooking if you can't get to it in time. The steam function also works exactly as it should. I steamed asparagus by arranging the spears on the included rack over water. Although this cooker also roasts up to a 6-pound chicken and cooks rice/grains, those functions, even though they work, are not ideal. First, for appearances, you should brown meat first, which you can do in the pan but which makes for more awkward cooking. Second, for rice and grains, you need to cook enough to at least cover the bottom of the pan; you will want to use that function for larger amounts only.The inner pan is not the traditional heavy stoneware but rather a lightweight, ceramic-coated, PFAS-free nonstick, metal pan. The PFAS-free aspect is critical for me since I own a bird. Plus, the surface is easy to clean. Although it is technically dishwasher-safe, HB warns that it should not be washed on the sanitize cycle because it may get too hot. I ran it through my dishwasher on that cycle before I saw the warning. Although the pan was not visibly damaged, I'll have to wash it by hand in the future. My clean dishes stay too wet if I don't use that cycle.This slow cooker can be useful when kitchen space is too limited to have several special-purpose appliances. Since the slow cooker is the primary function, you should get this only if you expect to use that one more than or at least equal to the others.-- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

Title: Well-Made—Heats Up Quickly—Very Versatile
Review: I have used the "old style" Crock Pot with the heavy ceramic insert for over 40 years, so I was apprehensive about ordering this Hamilton Beach 6 Quart 9-in-1 Programmable Slow Cooker. I am so pleased that I did. I am familiar with the brand and have had some Hamilton Beach appliances for decades.I first noticed how much lighter it is compared to my older Crock Pot. The older I get, the heavier things start to be, so I'm happy to have a much lighter slow cooker. But the main question is, how well does it work? I am pleased to report it works very well. In the short time that I've had it, I have cooked a roast to perfection, made a pot of beef stew, which I was able to sear the meat and make the stew in the same pot, and reheated the stew the next day after removing the crock portion from the refrigerator. I reheated the stew from the ice box to the base in record time. Something I was not able to do with my old heavy crock pot.It heats quickly and can be used as an electric skillet or slow cooker. I've not used some preset functions yet, but the ones I used worked perfectly. The non-stick, dishwasher-safe crock is indeed non-stick. It is easy to use, and the instructions are excellent. This is one of the best kitchen items I've received through this program. It is also a perfect appliance for the travel trailer.Conclusion: This item is a winner. Its versatility, ease of use, weight, and excellent instructions are outstanding. I'm pleased to say this programmable slow cooker has exceeded my expectations, which earns it a five-star rating. Title: Great multipurpose appliance!
Review: First off, I have to admit that I had NO idea slow-cookers and crockpots are two completely different things. I initially ordered this because my crockpot is over 20 years old and the timer occasionally decides on its own to shut the whole thing off. I was pleasantly surprised upon taking it out of the box and finding out it's really a multipurpose cooker. It took me a minute or two to figure out how to set the cooking style. It's a little confusing but once you figure it out, it's good. I decided to try making taco soup in it. My daughter in law makes it in her crockpot but has to cook the meat in a separate pan on the stove. I set this cooker to saute and cooked it first then added the other ingredients. I then set it to cook on the high slowcook setting for awhile, but did not need to let it go the entire 4 hours, and set it on warm once I decided it was done. The best part, just one pot to clean up! Nothing stuck to the bottom of it, which is something I was a little worried might happen with the heating element only on the bottom and using higher temps to initially cook the meat. This was far easier and less mess than using a large pot on the stove and having to check it every few minutes to make sure it's not boiling over. It is more lightweight than I expected, but that makes it easier to store and get out when needed. It seems well made. The pot insert was very easy to clean.
